I can't help but be disgusted by people in these times. it's horrible how screwed up people are and how people look up to and respect abnormal, sick and twisted, off base, and disgusting people and personalities rather than good and decent Godly people who stand for what is right.
@xelfer9 Godly is not decent. What people choose to do with their own bodies is none of god's damned business. He and you can go back to his time when a rapist would be punished by being forced to buy his victim, when a child could be killed for disobedience, when a slave was okay to beat just not to kill, when a homosexual was killed for it, when a woman was property. You can go back to godly times, but in these times we have freedom. These are the decent times.
This documentary changed my life. I did a research project on him for a class in grad school two years ago- i highly recommend seeing this documentary.
because my mom didn't masturbate, because I'm a feminist, because I want to, because it makes me feel powerful, because I like to feel powerless, because I'm fragile, because I'm tough, because clipping my nails was always such a ritual when I was a kid, because the future is dark, because life is too short, because I am bored, because I'm open-hearted, because I'm a woman, because I'd wither without it, because I am queer, because I am punk, because I am a pervert.
because I was a sad kid and an angry teenager, because I feel nostalgia for a time that never was, because of the martyrs of sainte agathe and sainte marguerite, because I'm lazy, because I'm selfish, because it's my definition of tenderness.
Havent seen the documentary yet but the guy sounds pretty wild, even though some of the footage i saw of him sounds like hes a cool fairly down to earth guy. Cystic Fibrosis is awful, Perhaps the pharmaceutical industry should spend less billions of dollars on aggressive 3 minute advertisements (which makes many people think they need pills when they dont) and spend more on research to help Cancer, Aids, Drug addiction, MS, Cystic Fibrosis etc etc. Drug companies anger me. Bob rules
im not ito in s&m but bob has such a way with his words he is a amazing poet it's sad that society frown down upon S&M but to everyone who pratices this Long live BOB Long Live BOB
i've become obsessed with bob flanagan in the last 3 months! i have a few of his books and his documentary on dvd. what an amazing person!! R.I.P. Bob!
I saw Bob do this live as he was suspended by his wrists above the ground after he nailed a two by four to his nut sack.He was amazing, twisted, and extremely intelligent.I miss him badly
Suffering is the polar opposite of Pleasure, of course we can destroy the opposite and remain in just here. This is a window into a mind that takes "everything" into consideration, be it his own suffering, or the reasons he suffers and loves it, destroying the opposite connects the personality based on its instinct and or values.
I wrote my final essay at Uni on and I think for Bob.'Sick' moved me in ways nothing ever has.And in Bob's absence I found Ron Athey's 'Judas Cradle' extremely moving.I hope anyone watching this does ask themself 'Why?'.
i just stumbled on this poetry and....really, i'm impressed, it's clear, and beautiful, and it has anger, sadness, pride and love.....really incredible.
I'm not sure...is the video made by bob flanagan?(is the video and the poem intended to go go together?)
yes - definately check out his documentary 'SICK: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist' - available to order on DVD from anywhere like amazon, hmv etc. it as amazingly beautiful, heartfelt, real and moving as documentary as you'll ever see about one persons life and their experiences.
totally agreed. he was just the sweetest, loveliest, most heroic guy. what a loss. he's so incredibly likeable & normal you don't even notice the S/M stuff (no disrespect to the S&M community)
i'm a close friend of Ron Athey's and we've often talked about Bob. Ron gave me a copy of 'Supermasochist' which i poured over, then hunted down the film. Cn't say just how much I would have loved to have met him, but what i can say is that he left an indelible mark on my life that has helped me enrich it.
