Wait,, I always was told that Viking was related to the word Wrecking,, or in “Maritime”, to plunder a ship gone aground or wrecked. Harald Hardrada, first battle as 15 years old in a Norwegian civil war, was wounded and came on the loosing side. Had to flee east, become the chief of the Varangian guard for the byzantine empire. Taking many cities and catsles for the empire. Then went home and claimed the throne, ruled Norway and Denmark having many battles against Danes fighting for freedom. Then lead and invation of brittain and died at standford bridge by an arrow in the wind pipe. Viking age died with him.

Vikings didn't have horns on their helmets. At least there has been found no evidence to support this myth. It is said that this was something Wagner added to his opera "Der Ring des Nibelungen" to make the vikings look more terrifying.

ONLY Kings and the like had helmets and chainmail. And not even all of them.

It was extremely rare to own a piece of armor.

My favorite viking is: Rurik who was a Varangian chieftain who gained control of Ladoga in 862, built the Holmgard settlement near Novgorod, and founded the Rurik Dynasty which ruled Kievan Rus and then Galicia-Volhynia until the 14th and Muscovy until the 16th century. it will include tons of viking artifacts of course but also some kind of boat trip that will take you thrue the different viking expeditions and eras both to the east and west. They havent started on the construction yet but you can read about this project on the net. I think they call it : Stockholm viking center or something like that.

My favorite viking is nameless, it's a battle story where the vikings were losing and being pushed back by the anglo-saxons across a bridge but one Viking let the rest of his "battle brothers(?)" go while he stood his ground. He fought the anglo-saxons single handedly and the only way they were able to defeat him apparently was one of the saxons went under the bridge and slammed a spear through the bridge into this dudes nuts, and finally died. Pretty damn epic story, Vikings FTW!
