  • A bit of pointless trivia but apparently, this appearance on Top of the Pops turned Noel Gallagher into a big U2 fan.

  • Great Video...hail to the god of the bi-level!! Bono you make my generation proud :0)

  • love the song but man how gay is the dancing.

  • this is not live. it's lipsynced.

  • @fearfeasog

I think too. I sounds EXACTLY as the studio version and at 2:10, Bono doesn't sing what we hear.

Bono is so shy on this video ! He doesn't know what to do with his arms ! Best band ever and forever <3

  • I NEED WATCH THE LIVE VERSION, BUT THE 50,000 SOULS IN THE STADIUM VERSION.

  • one of the lost masterpieces from u2

    i love that song

  • This should be mote popular

  • My God, this was soooo 80's

  • i love the song...love Bono's hair!

  • I´m afraid of the lyric, because it talks about the end of the world. I didn´t know, because I´m not good with metaphors, so I read in a web page. But I like the song very much haha XP

  • These lyrics are biblical references, but don't scare it don't speak about the end of the world but the end of a time and the comin of the Reign of God.

  • godS

  • Ok.

  • (It was for BenaiMagnificent )

  • lol

  • Great music video & song (from "Octover") in the early 80's and I love U2's works forever***

  • I love Bono and I want to be/be with him. U2 forever!

  • haha! i've never seen this before,. hahaha! i love bono.

  • Remember watching this on Top Of The Pops.

  • Was I the only person who bought this EP over here ??

  • I love them.I really love them :))

  • earli u2 was the best exept 4 the joshua tree that was anothr 1 of their good 1s i have all there cds and october is definitly my fav

  • not live

  • its top of the pops uk summer 81, most bands mimed, the bunnymen and u2 played live on it though in jan 83, playing the cutter and u2 did new years day.

  • This isn't live - right off October. Could be a video that was made to LOOK live. I've seen a lot of those.

  • this ain't live

  • dont think so,bono mightn,t admit but fire was put out by the record company to boost sales, the bad were hot at the time, aying that u2 have a couple of hundred songs to rival fire!!

  • The early U2 albums (Boy, October, War) were the best! One of my favorite early U2 songs

  • Mine too! u r sooooooo right. I was 11 years old back then and the earlier songs were very innovative - a part of the new wave.

  • Love early U2

  • Love It

  • FIRE IN MY LIFE!!

  • They could at least stick the cables in their guitars!

  • But it is exactly the same version as the one on the Boy album, isn't it? I'm a huge U2 fan and it's hard for me to believe that Bono is singing playback, but look at his mouth at 2:12 - "there's a fire in me" and we can hear "there's a fire inside".

  • it's true!

  • it's on the 'october' album

  • I love it! One of the best songs of October album!

  • is it me or does this sound like killing joke?

  • Just you....sorry to bring the bad news...

  • hehe thats cool. The edge's playing just reminds me of geordie white...but its seperated by a step (White plays a whole step down from standard). Plus killing joke had an album called fire dances...hehe ah well

  • 5 stars i love this song !!! it rocks

u2 rocks and so does melodica (click my username and check out our melodica cover of October!)

    peace

  • I think we all display great taste in music. I happen to be a Bass player. This early U2 and Joy Division are why I am still alive.

  • October is their best record.

  • Tomorrow is great and so is I Threw a Brick

  • Fire is one of the best early U2 songs-and October is a great album too!

It dates from 1981, and the song did indeed go down the charts after this appearance..........I wonder why?!

  • cool fire affects!

  • imedi is right, kite (my favorite song), in a little while, a man and a woman, and maybe even City of Blinding Lights are right up there with the old classics and hidden gems. red hill mining town and staring at the sun are so good but not well known.

  • I remember watching this,there was a great buzz around Dublin,local lads on TOTP.THANKS

  • I like "FIRE" in the early era of U2 because its entire impression really, definitely fits my taste...Love U2***

  • October is a completely underrated album. Like Bono said at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in '05, "Can you imagine--the difficult second album--it's about God?" For 20- and 21-year olds, what more could you ask for? Well done, boys.

  • I like it!! Got the remastered version from BestBuy on Friday. And to believe, U2 almost disbanded before the release of October

  • Top of the Pops 1981 ...I`m sure.

  • Yeah, definitely not live at all. It's the studio version exactly.

  • That's right.

  • This is the first U2 song I ever heard and I've been hooked since. It was their first UK hit and had the odd distinction of being the first single ever to go down the charts in the week after they appeared on Top of the Pops. I think this is the performance.

  • In my humble opinion U2 started to go down hill not long after this rarely capturing the excitement that the early stuff had in abundance. It is slightly uncool to like U2 nowadays I defy anyone to watch this era and not be overwhelmed by the sheer class of it all

  • I agree, early U2 rocks.

  • Although, this is an uncool video, the song abruptly went 'down' on the charts after this video aired back in '81

  • This song is one of my favs from the October album, I was born in that month, 1982. I got the remastered version of October the other day from BestBuy. It's awesome! Also got the new version, as the sticker says, of War. Got the remastered version of Joshua Tree last year as well. Will the Unforgettable Fire be next? I surely hope so

  • Wow! some kindred spirits! I've seen interviews where The Edge will imply this to be a weak album...It's their best and the eighty's stuff is potent and satisfying.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG TO DEATH! Bono used to be such a SUPER ULTRA MEGA HOTT BABE!! I think "October" is one of their better albums. I love anything 80's of theirs, and their 2000 - now. Their 90's music is trash, in my opinion. They were weird in the 90's.

  • never knew Pop existed until '07 and I consider myself a diehard fan. Pop is only album I can't listen to over and over and over

  • Give it another try. It's brilliant.

  • You're right, LovesBonoVox. In the 90's they still were good. Now they suck a big time.

  • Every band in history has a decline. The elite bands that disband when they were big did it at the right time. Beatles and Police just to name a couple. U2 should have done it after Zooropa. Who talks about their work after that? U2 are just taking their time now recording. They put out a CD every 5 years should manifest something to everyone.

  • So one talks about the two albums, All That You Can't Leave Behind and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, that won them more Grammys than any of their other albums? If they had stopped after Zooropa, younger fans wouldn't have got the chance to be exposed to these older songs. No Beautiful Day? No Vertigo? Their best stuff is still ahead of them.

  • Personally, I would rather have never been exposed to Beautiful Day and Vertigo, and I don't think that's just me.

  • then youre not much of a U2 fan are you? and I dont think Its just me either.

  • i am not a fan of vertico or elevation either but songs like kite in a little while are as good as the old stuf

  • Are you serious? All That You Can't Leave Behind from '00 won some grammies and is considered a classic. Their last one was good, too. Must I state the old saying, think before you speak?

  • this is one of the masterpieces of the band, like gloria, nyd and sbs, this moment of u2 is the most pure and mistic, great year!

  • yeah, Gloria is my most favorite video of all times and this is very classic U2. Nobody like them, it's the passion behind this album that is singular, even among the U2 repretoir at large

  • It has the honour of being one of the few songs to go down the charts after appearing on totp

  • I think this was U2 at their best, just my opinion

  • no way is this being played live.It is identical to the album version.I have head it live.I think this is more of a music vedio.just a thought.

  • This was Top of the Pops??? If I think about what they show now...

  • It bombed! The album too! but I still love it!

  • Good stuff!

  • wonderful to see this clip finally. not one of their best earlier songs, but Edge's guitar makes anything good sound GREAT!

  • I LOVE this song!

  • I think this is the infamous Top of The Pops performance.. apparently the single bombed.

  • No wonder it bombed. It's one of their worst songs.

  • Great clip, but I would not call it "live".

    M

  • wo~~w Loot at this young U2""

  • Wow great set! What's the source of this?

  • Don't know what the source is.

I've downloaded this video a couple of years ago.

  • @Popmart This is a UK version of MTV where the put on "concerts" lots of bands did it like xtc just to name some other. but basically it was supposed to be like a music video so they lip sync everything which is why it sounds identical to the track

  • @Welcome2Z00TV Top of the Pops summer 81, remember it so well. Excellent :)))

  • They wanted been the best and are the best.. U2
