Chaining pokemon for shinies IS worth it, it just takes, time, patience, and the ability to not get really pissed. I've caught 23 so far and I only started shiny hunting a few weeks ago. If anyone has questions about shiny hunting and chaining I'm more than happy to help out.

@ShinyDragonHunter Once you have a chain of 40+(best to stay at 40) ,you start running back and 4th, then use pokeradar again,this is called reseting,u do this to find shiny patches.

Without chaining, it's a 1 in 8192 chance.

My first shiny was a Foongus in 2010 after so many years, and it was COMPLETELY random

@starpony8642 By random encountering (1/8192), using the pokeradar (this video), soft resetting or masuda method (1/2048 or 1/366).... I think the pokeradar is the "best" one if you know how to use it; though, soft resetting is another easy way to get shiny starters/legendaries but still, you may reset the game a thousand times without getting one. The masuda method is also a good way but it takes a lot of time (search for it)

I've spent my time looking every way except AR and was happy when they introduced the pokeradar, saves me time. Sure it's easier once you get the hang of it but still gives challenge, especially for those with low appearance rates. I've spent months trying to chain porygons. You can think it cheap but I'll keep using it.
