  • master chief of halo made it

  • i would never trust me flying a jet I built myself...BALLS OF STEEL!!!!!!!!

  • It would have been easy to make a succesful aircraft that got near the speed of sound, rather than going past it. Why go supersonic? You don't save much time unles you're doing a thousand mile trip, most of the time lost in flight is lost on the ground.

So the test pilot died because somebody got too ambitious and the unsuccessful plane fell apart.

  • Why would you want to see the longer version?......this one draaaaaaaags on

  • the video holds the title for "Gayest jet video".

  • @pliedas got a jet? i bet not. so it's one up on you chief.

  • @b101aa2 should have expected that, I'll bet you snapped your fingers and squinted your eyes when you thought of that...BTW I have a Cirrus SR20.

  • @pliedas took you 4 months to respond eh? sr20, not a bad plane really. good starter plane for newbies. flew one for a few hundred hours back around 2002 giving some people that work for me ifr training.

  • @pliedas the music was gay.

  • @3DFLYLOW mid 90's...

  • @b101aa2 we're not in the mid 90's now are we?

  • @r4b33Z no, but when this video was made, we sure were. now weren't we....

  • tout est trouble

  • Civi aircraft aren't allowed by the faa to exceed the speed of sound without approval first.

  • What does this cost all said and done?

  • BD-5 and 10 for Burt and Dick Rutan?

  • Wasn't this the plane that was feathers in Popular Mechanics about 20 years ago?

  • @DrStoooopid Yep..I remember the issue from the late 80's I believe.

  • The video is so bad... Having a plane like that, you should be able to get a better camcorder.

  • like an 80's soft-porn video...

  • Amazing aircraft, just like eveything Jim Bede has ever done, him and Rutan are pure genius.

  • I almost wrote a bad comment cause the music is so so sappy and sad! Then I read the top and sure enough test plane crash someone died! Nice plane nice range and would be a great personal commuter to see family n friends! Soon we will have beam me up technology and wherever you call, your there transferred through the phoneline and reassembled molecularly on the other side. Thus saving fuel costs, plane design, tons o cash and no crash! G

  • @9lifepath Jim Beede........the biggest conman in aviation! He designs pipe dream airplanes and sells kits before the first one has flown!!! Does anyone remember the BD-5 fiasco? How about the BD-5 car that was a BD-5 with wheels that was supposed to get 200mpg??? You know the BD-5 came out almost forty years ago, yet I don't know many people that have actually seen a BD-5 (other than the jet) fly. And even in the case of the jet; it shows up in a truck.

  • shit.....when do the puppies come running out and play in the field of flowers? The music has got to go!!! LAME FAIL

  • my only complaint is the canopy its just seems awkwardly big to me

  • Push button start too. This must be the luxury model

  • with all due respect, i doubt it would be "dominating the market today." Homebuilders aren't generally the crowd looking for super fast jets. Look at the market... the only thing similar is the Viperjet and that's just for kicks.

  • What weapons can you fit to the wings. Heat seakers?

  • That is a beautiful plane, Im getting the RC version once I get a bit better at flying.

  • this is starting to look like an eairly mini version of the f-18.

  • I like your comments at the end ...(Give me 2 days locked in a room and I could have solved those issues completely).

  • CK. OUT YOUTUBE BD5 AIRCRAFT IN MIAMI.

  • did... post a vid of it flying.

  • i will wair the d-5 with two seats

pd: what is the name of the song??

  • is dat da modified shark or tiger II??

  • no. it's a bd-10

  • if you drank a bottle of whiskey while flying a plane, you'd be dead too. actually, if you drank a bottle of whiskey do doing just about anything, you be dead. dude, keep in mind, most people build planes know what they are doing, far more then you ever will with anything mechanical or anything in general.

  • I am a A+P..I saw nautical loran in a C150 and the owner got it to work... It was because it was cheaper then a aviation loran.. I think it could even be used as a fish finder! If given the opportunity.. people will do stupid things to save a buck. If drinking a bottle of JD Black while flying made the plane cheaper to operate..There would be JD Black in alot of hangers..

  • If you are refering to John Denver. You can find the FAA report on-line. JD had been in Re hab and had a clean toxicology screen in the autopsy after the Vari -EZ crash. He had just bought the plane and got it back from an inspection by an A&P. Crashed while trying to switch fuel tanks he was unfamiliar with.

  • John Dever died because of a mistake. Not the airplane in general. Plenty of Home builts have to be FAA certified just as any assembly line A/C does, and often times by people who love and cherish flying and their aircraft. Most never crash. But, just as in any other market, mistakes are made, and people die. But more people die in Auto accidents a year than have ever died in aircraft, home builts included.

  • People die in auto accidents 1:453

People who die in plane accidents: 1:1059

Amazing how safe planes can be but how dangerous cars are.

  • Also to get a drivers license is much easier than pilots.

  • JD died trying to change tanks located over his shoulder using vise grips in stead of a proper fuel valve handle. While trying to see what he was doing, he flew into the water. This type of maintenance is common when the owner built the plane and therfore can do all maintenance.

  • dam shame to

  • Good day to all. I found this video in my stash and have uploaded a high(er) quality version. I hope they find success in the redesign.

  • If there's one thing to be learned from home-built supersonic aircraft, it's that selecting music to add to a video is harder than it looks. I had to mute this one to avoid spoiling an excellent movie, then I found that I'd missed commentary. Grrr.

  • Damn whats up with that empanage..?

  • it was what it was. two seat, and after the turtle back was built around the pw j85, but meant to use as little space as possible, which then allow for more lift from the fuselage itself and decrease the wing loads. as a result, the much less weight and drag.

  • It's from like 1994..... Not exactly last week.

  • Whats up with the music? I feel like I'm at the spa getting a message.

  • @dopafeind1 yeah i fell asleep halfway through and i was like shit i missed it and had to replay it but had the same results. maybe one day i'll be able to wartch the whole thing

  • Ok ... You cant order one :( Why ??

  • because it was 13-14 years ago and no kits were ever produced due to the accident that occurred. The production was sold to an aeronautics firm in canada, but that's the last anyone ever heard about it.

  • I heard about something going wrong with this project. What exactly were these problems they had?

  • vertical stabilizer failure at 380 kts....resulting in the the plane pitching up violently and tearing apart. supposedly they fixed that problem

  • vertical stabilizer? you mean rudder? rudders don't cause pitch issues.

  • yes that is the same thing different name....and yes it does....at those speeds, it does. look up the faa report if you dont believe me.

  • :-)
