Okay, I think Audi paid Mercedes to Please stop racing LeMans because a re-vamped version of this car would Punish them and Peugoet! DID you see how fast he passed that 911???
@kurtcobainfan76 GT4 doesn't have Team Oreca viper in it the red white and blue version. Also I wish they'd bring back being able to upgrade like they did in the first GT. Along with the cars in GT2.

@9inchNirvana you're right but don;t forget that the 917 raced when there were no chicanes at Mulsane. Yet I believe it was the most spectacular car to ever race.
but the clk gtr looks better and the gt one is one off the cars who should win le mans because they where the fastest with the clrs but the havent have good drivers
Really great to see Christophe Bouchut driving hard that CLR. But the true is that Nobert, manager of that team doesn't want to listen to him for the set up of the car. From first test session Bouchut told that the front car jump too much. All whats happened after, all the world knew it. Flying Mercedes...
You 're right with your analyse .... i clearly remember the constant front axle jumps of the car during the week practises ..... I'm a french professional cameraman , i kept these images from different parts of the track and often have a look on them with friends during the long winter evenings .... the littles flaps added before the race coul'nt change the fate ...
I really liked the designs of the car and the car itself. Too bad it was developed that poor so it would flip...
The scandal is that the freaking FIA jerks blamed the ACO for the flips and forced them to lower the Mulsanne hill, while it was Mercedes's fault cause they just couldnt make right aerodynamics...
@arxcns Yes , 23 years old here I think , he had 2 crashes due to Aerodynamic failures on the straight ;) , I even think that after he said fuck this (after going 2 times airborn :D) and went back into open-wheel racing :D
The CLK GTR GT1 (the one from FIA GT) had a V12 engine but mercedes wanted to participate in Le Mans, again, so they changed back to the V8 they used back in the 80's.
it was a 6 Litre V8 naturally aspirated Mercedes M119 engine loosly based on the old C9s engine from the late 80s early 90s.
It wasnt that fast as everyone thinks it is, its only a legend car because of its crashes. It was a nightmare to drive (as you might imagine) I remember seeing an interview with one of the drivers saying it was always a very nervous twitchy car to drive.
The Toyota GT1 was faster, the Merc had the slight advantage in a straight line speed but both could do about 220mph.

Sauber C9 is from 1988-1990, CLR is from 1999. Built for completely different regulations and back in late 80s there were no chicanes on the straight.
Le Mans 98' & 98' were the best Le Mans races, my favorite was in 1999, too bad that Mercedes gave up, their car were the fastests but for me the drivers were not enough good (but it's not their fault if their cars went to the airs).
I totally agree, for me 98 and 99 were the best years I have seen, all the manufacturers and so many famous drivers! Brilliant years of Lemans! I must say though, I thought Mercedes had a good driver line up in 99 esp Bernd Schneider who was probably the best all round GT driver in the world at the time.
This is a CLR not CLK-GTR'98, this le mans'99 ! Lool at 3:22 and make "pause", look to the back of the Toyota GT-One: the GT-One'98 used to have things like "white flames" all over the car, but not in 99. Ok ?
Yes this a good car, but i'm really sad because Gt-One is the one who finish the 24 of le mans in class LMPGT. I really like the finish in the le mans 99 with Gt One and CLR in first and second position, but...
Cool video, but check out the 1983 lemans onboard with the Porsche 956 video here on Youtube. That vid is on the old Mulsanne when it was a true "straight." You will see 246 MPH... AWESOME..
Great driving..especially after what he knew about Webber's car. Do you trust them when they tell you that they've "fixed the problem" ? Must be in the back of mind.
"The aerodynamics on the Mercedes all went wrong..." They were wrong from the start: no testing on bumpy Le Mans-style tracks, almost no wind tunnel testing, the body of the car shaped roughly like a very thick wing, the lift from it bound to defeat the ground effect keeping the car on the ground.
Speaking of bumby tracks, you know what they say in modern sportscar racing - if you don't run at Sebring, you won't win at Le Mans. Case in point this year - Audi ran at Sebring, Peugeot didn't. And we all know how that turned out....
Altough I doubt that Le Mans is today so bumpy that it used to be... expect of course the road course section. Sebring then again is most likely the bumpiest track in the world.
Next year Peugeot is doing Sebring (and also Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta) :)
Yeah, it'll be nice to see that. No Le Mans is nowhere near as bumpy as Sebring and it never has been (at least since the track has been paved (the first races there weren't on all paved road)). The reason Sebring's bumpiness is important is because it torture tests the car's components so that 12 hours does more damage and "wear and tear" than 24 at most other tracks.
haha that would be nice but MB was so embarrased by it, they've done everything in their power to prevent those scary moments from being shown. The best we got is the EuroSport footage.
Plus they've NEVER shown the surviving CLR again in public. The car was withdrawn from the race just minutes after this car's flight, and some time later sold to a private collector.
So that explains why we'll likely never see this car in any future racing games, unless the developers are lucky enough to find this private collector (assuming this person is willing to lend it). Then again, I've seen some die-casts of this car made long after the flips happened.
The private collector brought the car out in public twice in the last two years, once for the Modena Track Days at the Nurburgring and once for Bernd Schneider's retirement from racing.
So, when does it take off?
