  • bop like a pigeon tomorrow

  • i like a lot when someone reply(with intelligence) to my comment, anyway, maybe you right, but imho is better christie, for his voise and for the feelings he give me, but like i said is my opinion and i dont want put my comment like a bible verse:)

  • no way, christie is a lot better, good job jarvis but christie is far a miles away

  • @dennyleso Christie doesn't even understand the lyrics, hence he can't sing it properly.

  • @JarvisOcock Better than Jacko's crap.,

  • @JarvisOcock Are you...? Sounds like something he would say against his own music? Anyway... that may very well be true, but considering all the other shite now, it isn't too bad after all!

Are you the guy about to kiss the piggy?

He is a performer... something that some of THE best acts around, failed to do! It may not be Pink Floyd or Jimi in the music side of things, but isn't terrible, like the crappy boy bands and the constant drivel seen every week on the X factor! Eh?

  • @JarvisOcock lol care to elaborate further than... "Yeah.... " Mr Ocock? Were you at Reading at the weekend? Pulp was brilliant, simply brilliant... I saw them at T in the Park, a few years back and was really impressed. Watched the Reading + Leeds gig on BBCthree on Saturday night, they still sound great!

  • Do you have the Sebadoh performance to upload? I've never seen it and heard great things.

  • this was shown on my 22nd birthday, so much better than the version with Tony Christie.

  • Jarvis Cocker is just too good.

  • Haha, that audience.... crazyyy :P

  • @theploughmanslunch yeah, i remember once every blue moon the line up for totp would be truly righteous, before reverting to the usual lip-synced tosh

  • I thought I hadn't imagined it at Reading when Jarvis walked on stage with a banner after this song, I was right!!!! SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • I would have watched Dru Hill to be honest, TOTP was shit but it was good shit if you know what i mean!

  • Walk like a PANDA! :3

  • now everything makes sense

  • Wonderful! Love him

  • "I wanna see you walk .. like a panther, can you do it? Can you do it?" - Jesus! Sometimes there's a thin line between Jarvis and Paul Reubens, I swear. I could just picture Peewee doing a version of this in his heyday.

  • 1st Man in Space all seeing i

  • Brilliant!

  • This is seriously like the coolest shit ever.

  • wow this is so cool i cant even say.Jarvis could sing and do anything and somehow make it look and sound cool.

  • "Most likely the finest moment in all of TOTP history." ????? Hardly!!! Jarvis Cocker is always great at what he does, but the actual band band in question... I don't think soooo!

  • Remember watching this on TOTP with my two daughters and we were rolling about the floor laughing at Jarvis Cockers antics.

But if you just listen to it its a very good version and a close second to the All Seeing I

  • I don't know which is my fave; this or the original with Tony...... Hell! They're both awsome!

  • God I love him :D

  • that was awesome!

  • I don't mind who sings this song, I like both versions and just adore this song!

  • obviously christie sings it better. christie has an awesome voice. but cocker does do a good job here. does this song exist anywhere as a jarvis cocker song? you know like a proper recording on an album?

  • I do actually happen to agree that Tony Christie sings it better. Jarvis voice is weak and I am sure he will admit it. I love Pulp and think Jarvis is one of the speakers for my generation and a cracking songwriter. But Tony sings this better in my view, as the song was written for him!

  • Why can't I watch this? It just says "an error occurred, please try again later." But it has said that for the last couple of weeks!

  • markjb is right, jarvis penned this little beauty...a shsme we only ever hear bastard year 2000 every 2nd commercial on radio local/national...time for a new Radio Caroline pop pickers!!

  • dude Jarvis is a legend in EVERYTHING he does.He does it his OWN way and OWNS it!!

  • Maybe Jarvis is performing it because he wrote the song!!!!!

  • @markjb Jarvis is doing this on TOTP as Tony Christie had commitments in Germany and couldn't do the show.

  • Comment removed

  • @punksterdaddy Yes Jarvis Cocker did write this song, amongst others for All Seeing I

  • @thegingeuk

Yes I know, I went and checked the cd cover from the singlea few weeks ago and you are right.

  • I think theres a couple of things a lot of ppl seem to be missing about this performance. 1. Its top of the pops, usually these perfoamnces are mimed but as tony christie ain't with them they had to find a singer that could pull the song off like him and so this is probably the only live top of the pops performance ever. 2. Jarvis sings in his own style which has always been close to spoken word, I think he has done a very good job on a song that doesn't exactly suit him.

  • He seems quite bad to be honest.. tony christie seemed like a million times better. Jarvis's voice is just to flat and boring really.

  • then you don't understand anything about this song.

  • What's there to understand? explain to me?.

As I see, I just have a different opinion from you, I think Jarvis Cocker has a shit voice, I think he may as well just be saying the words I wouldn't tell the differene.

That's fine, that's my opinion, you're allowed to disagree with me. I'm happy not everyone thinks the same as me, or there would be very few music acts out there and little variety ;p.

I'll still continue thinking Tony Christie did a lot better job.

  • I remember this so well, thought it was a remarkable collaboration, have been searching for it for years. Thanks for posting it

  • chords anyone?

  • seen it yesterday! lets chat

    wanting new friends VN

  • Ah yes, I remember this. Every week, Top of the Pops was unrelenting tosh, and then all of a sudden, 29th January 1999 (I looked it up), the put on:

Jarvis with The All Seeing I

    Terrorvision

    The Offspring

    Gay Dad

and even Sebadoh. Sebadoh! On Top of the Pops? Blimey. I could not believe my eyes.

And then, next week, back to the same old rubbish as before, with Bryan Adams, Dru Hill and Armand van Helden. And that meek surrender led directly to the show dying in 2006. It did, honest.

  • Haha yes it blew me away when that episode was on - i probably still have it on vhs somewhere haha

  • Gosh Jarvis, you're such an amazing performer. You're making me gay.... Stop!

  • I found a '99 TOTP tape that I had in a cupboard - and I was looking up all the songs on it & I found this beauty!

I used to love listening to this - I was only 7. I liked doing the actions. =D

& Jarvis Cocker is just amazing.

    Obviously.

  • Jarvis Cocker is so cool - without any effort.

  • i cant believe they cancelled TOTP.

  • Lmao Jarvis looks sexy doing dancing (obviously!), he's incredible!

Just makes me laugh that most of the lads in the audience who are copying him look a tad gay...

  • Amazing! So glad to find this on here. One of the all time great TOTP performances, great tune but Jarvis makes it

  • To see Jarvis is always a "experience". He's the best perfomer of our times. And in my honest opinion, I prefer Jarvis than Tony.

And, yes, Jarvis wrote the song.

  • Yeah, Jarvis wrote this apparently. The week before Tony Christie performed it and this week Jarvis did it himself. I've got the Tony Christie performance on a VHS somewhere...

  • This song is just awesome. I love Tony Christie's version, too.

  • what year is it?

  • January 1999 - see Wikipedia for some interesting info on the All Seeing I

  • That was GREAT!!! I had a real good laugh, and the song is pretty good too. GREAT POST!!!

  • Love his dance!

so funny and sexy at the same time!

  • haha

    ouuuuuuuuu yesh!

    that rrrrrrgggggghhh!

    uuuufffff

    xD

  • yummie... grrrr...

    uuuuuuufffffffffff

    MY GOD!

Suddenly I wanna go to the jungle... :P

  • 04:13... thats me in the purple and white shirt - looking rather young and cool! Great Song!

  • Tony Christie may have went back to Amarillo - but he did the backing vocals before he left!!!

  • jarvis you are just too cool!!!

  • Is it possible any1 could upload the pretenders-Tony Chritie video from back in 98/99? Thanks

  • pretenders-tony christie video? The pretenders did cover this song on loose screw, but i don't think they made a video...?

  • Jarvis rocks....

  • are you on 'that there "crack"', son?

  • lol ' a half-wit in a leotard'. did i hear that right?

  • Much better then the album version (because of Jarvis, obviously). Does anyone know if there is a better quality recording/release of this anywhere?

  • funny

  • haha... aww i loved his panther walk. fab song.♥

  • far out,but where is tony christie

  • This song is my life theme, particually the part that says: "Where did you leave all self respect, You look like a reptile your house is a wreck, You're existance an insult and stains that are suspect cover your clothes"

  • This sounds weird, but I had a dream about this song last night having not thought about it since about 1998! So I looked it up, and bing - It's fucking awesome!

  • awesome

  • im the original capper of this, im glad its here :-)

  • like that beats.... its kept go on!!

  • Wank like a panda tonight?

    wots that all about?

  • Jarvis Cocker actually wrote this song. Little bit of trivia for anyone who didn't know.

  • who doesnt love jarvis cocker and his kitchen sink lyrics?

  • lol i love jarvis too guys. he is a pure god. hes just the master of dancing. he really made that performance kick ass as always. awwwww hes so amazing i want to marry him lol.

  • the original song is good, but it sounds so much better with jarvis on vocals

  • Tony Christie was looking amazingly young in this one!

  • amazing!

  • I remember watching this back in the day and falling in love with Jarvis. I've fallen again.

  • Mmmm... I still love Jarvis. Even now!

  • i like the crowd dancing

  • I have a crush on him

  • That Jarvis looked just like a panther and he scared the crap out of me. I was shaking in my boots. Oh Jarvis, you silly ducky, behave yourself, you'll have all your fans knickers in an uproar!!!

  • Jarvis, always great lyrics. Amazing! Love this one!

  • O, Jarvis is so adorable.

  • Ha! Thanks for sharing. I appreciate this because I had Cocker on a huge pedestal until this moment. I needed to see him do something silly.
