  • Man you ghost snare hits are fantastic!

  • Amazing. You really need to get into a legit band (if you aren't already) and start making your own music. You have all the skills and talent to make a lot, and I mean a lot of money. Wait a second....are you simply famous and I don't already know it?

  • @Xformat01 Thanks again. Naw, I'm not famous. I was in a few bands before. Not in one now, though. Just play for myself. I would love to do it for a living... but there are so many good drummers that would kick my ass, I couldn't compete.

  • You're very very good men!, and your skills are badass!

    PD:Your socks sucks! XD

  • Have you noticed that you keep switching between heel-up and heel-down in some sections? For example, in the part that starts at 2:10.

Do you do this consciously, or you just do the kick beats and your feet do one or the other depending on different stuff? It seems depending on what your hands are doing, you might be more comfortable with heel-up or heel-down.

Anyway, this is awesome and inspiring as always. :)

  • @neon9999 yeah, I noticed that heel up/down switch technique after I filmed this! I thought that was pretty funny. Totally subconscious. I'm unaware I'm doing that. I think it has to do with how close the foot pattern happens to be to something resembling a downbeat during that section. I'm mostly a heel-down player. I play heel-up only when the mood hits me, or when I just do without thinking, like in this case. Thanks for the comment!

  • man you got some serious skills! I wish i could play as tight as you!

you should go for their song Inamorata. that song is killer!

  • @Fleischgewehr89 thanks! yah that song is good. the whole album is. thanks for the compliment. I'm just barely holding on, playing this song, so it's probably just luck that it sounded tight.

  • @egyokeo Yeah i know what you mean, im trying to learn this song, CAFO and Tempting Time! their stuff is so intense and it makes it hard! lol

    yeah man your welcome!

  • diggin the socks.

  • @joshuag94 very old man'ish, I know. I should have worn my birkenstocks with them. And maybe try to pull up the socks a bit higher.

  • @egyokeo Oh yeah!

  • perscisce timing u can tell u are counting with ur feet subscribing

  • @gutairdude1 thanks... although I think my timing ain't that great in this vid. It was all I could do to keep up with this song.

  • /watch?v=CcNF7HRvRvU&feature=related

  • will you go for CAFO!? Good job there!

  • @jjpl2001email thanks! Was going to try Cafo, but now I have other plans in the works.

  • Hey Egyokeo, I hope you see this, because I have a question for you. I've been playing for about 3 years and can play stuff like Dream Theater pretty easily, but whenever I attempt this or i.e. Between the Buried and Me, I fail. Hard. Can you recommend any specific exercises to develop the technique, speed, and coordination required for music like this?

  • @Niekpas1 What I do for songs like this is I'll write them out (link to my transcription in the description) and then just take it one measure at a time. I'll just work out the coordination SUPER slowly. So slow that anyone could play it. Then once it becomes too easy, I'll increase the speed a little, until it becomes hard again. I keep doing this until I can play the measure at a decent speed. So, just be patient when learning it slow. Eventually it clicks and that feeling is addictive!

  • play real drums kiddo

  • @leovatoloko08 they are real drums sped

  • thank u soo much for the Transcriptions! :)

  • lol, ur cool, play drums and play with html.. SUBSCRIBED!

  • @ninbr6 haha thanks man!

  • 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286208998628034825342117067982148086513282306647093844609550582231725359408128481117450284102701938521105559644622948954930381964428810975665933446128475648233786783165271201909145648566923460348610454326648213393607260249141273724587006606315588174881520920962829254091715364367892590360011330530548820466521384146951941511609433057270365759591953092186117381932611793105118548074462379962749567351885752724891227938183011949

  • Your pi site's source said to leave a comment here. May I have the location?

  • @MrSkateify Hi! It's at index31415 daht html. Clever of you to look at the source! I think I'll just put the answer there now. I didn't intend for people to see that comment anymore! I had this video embedded there last pi day and just commented it out.

  • Comment removed

  • @KuzzNshazziie million digits , i looked in your html source and found this 'And if you're having trouble finding the million digits of Pi on this website,

write a comment on my YouTube page for the above video and I'll tell you where it is!

  • @KuzzNshazziie wow! I was wondering how you knew to come here. I took that video down months ago! You hacker you ;-) nice. I remember this old website called hullabaloo daht comm and it actually was a game for how to hack that website. It'd start with reading the html source, then it would show you how to hack shtml, forms, telnet, etc. Was pretty fun. I think it's no more, though.

  • @KuzzNshazziie index31415 dot html :)

  • Well DONE sir!! Amazing stuff. I've given myself the challenge of learning this song on bass.. it is killing me too!! :D I've done covers of Behaving Badly & On Impulse already, but this is the biggie.. x_x Anyway AMAZING job mate!

  • @BedroomBassist Thanks a lot!!!!! Good luck on your bass cover. Post a video response here if you make a vid of it if you want.

  • what VST are you using ?

  • @gogodanseuse I wish I was using VST. I want to get into that. So far I've been getting the most out of the stock Roland V-Drums TD-20 sounds.

  • hmmm Tasty multi-zone pads on a roland V-drum I suppose ? Nice Job!!

  • @phrozenbit THANKS! Yeah, I wish I had the extra money for some splash and china cymbal pads, but I currently have to settle for using the rims for those.

  • @egyokeo I wish i had a V-drum kit, I'm stuck with my Yamaha DT-Xplorer, all single zone pads. I do have a pearl double bass set though. I can't really practice things like Animals as leaders because of my limited kit. On the other hand, my limited kit kind of fores me to learn time signatures, especially the so called odd time signatures. I never knew how much one could do on a limited kit like i have. Anyway, rims or not, it sounds great! You're a skilled drummer.

  • Mind-fucked. Subscribed. Happy.

THAT WAS FUCKING AMAZING. 'nuff said.

  • @krp480 WOW thanks a lot! :-D

  • Nice job my man....this shit isnt easy so very good

  • @aponcapone Thanks! And thanks for subscribing. Maybe someday I'll get to practicing Cafo!

  • egyokeo can play a whole song on only one drum

  • Great cover. That is rarely said on any animals as leaders covers. I am huge fan of music theory and looked up your transcriptions, thank you very much. I just have a question, and that is, the time signatures throuhout the song? I have a hard time with AAL, and counting

  • @imagayfox Well the main section is (what I counted as) 19/4, but really, it's probably a combination of smaller measures, like maybe 5/4 + 4/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 + 4/4 or something. The whole song, though, fits into just 1/4. Meaning, just count quarter note beats and you'll always be on a beat. The guitar solo section is straight 4/4 but the drum pattern is 7/16 overlayed... still, just listend to the hi-hat, it's in 4/4! I love that part. I learned it very slow to get used to it.

  • @imagayfox thanks a lot, BTW!

  • Yo, where's the 1,000,000 digits of pi?

  • @PigeonMaster334 index31415 dot html at the root of the pi domain :)

  • Jesus, dude. WOW. Amazing work! I saw these guys open up with Dredg last November and they blew my face off. Been in love with them ever since! Great job, man. Also, I love the AES cover you did too. Keep rockin' broham!!

  • @FaFbFeverdog thanks!!

  • I like how I was using the exact same headphones you're wearing, to listen to this :D

  • @Gersonsmith those are good headphones, but the pads on mine are starting to fall apart.

  • Thank you sir, that would be greatly appreciated.

    -Sincerely, HeadsAreRolling

  • @HeadsAreRolling Just uploaded the transcription. Link in the description.

  • Transcription?

    Please?

  • @HeadsAreRolling I'll try to scan my chicken scratchings and post them. I'll let you know if/when I do that. And I'll put a link in this vid's description too.

  • i member when my toms used to make cymbol sounds then i bought a real kit.

  • That was an amazing drum cover, really nailed it, I sat down and tried to play along to cafo, and I didn't know where to start. How long have you been playing?

  • @BurnThePope0514 Thanks! Yeah, Cafo is strange. I was planning on learning it, but it's low on my list now. I've been playing for 25 years, but took about 10 years off when I started college. So actively playing maybe 15 years.

  • btw what are you working on right now?

  • @bcjr8 I'm learning to play the harp. Not kidding.

  • nice job. im trying to learn this too... keep up the good work!

  • @claw8814 Thanks! If you make a vid playing this, post a video response!

  • I've been working on this song myself. Great job, man!

  • @AEDDrummerG If you make a vid of it, post a response!

  • I don't know how you play with shoes on. I must play with my heels or I can't do triples and quadruplets with my right foot.

  • @link094000 I'm just so used to my k-swiss tennies :-)

  • you should try to make some periphery drum covers, that would be tight.

  • @Ch1ckenKatsu I've been listening to Periphery almost non-stop for about a week now. I just can't figure out which track to play. I'm starting to think their music is just too out there. Like just too much unpredictable sounding stuff. I still continue to listen to it, though. Something about it just keeps bringing me back.

  • fucking spot on!

  • @Ch1ckenKatsu thanks!

  • I demand to know how pi sounds like on a drum set..

Up to its one millionth digit, hahahaha

    Get creative, mista' !

  • Each part of the drum can correspond to one of the digits xD

  • @AnyhowStep you know what... I was in a band wayyyyy long time ago called Neophyte Nation in Detroit. And there was this song that I charted pi over 16 bars. I wrote it out... got the bass player to learn it with me... and we played it live! It was good fun!

  • Damn! You're an amazing player!

    What about some periphery? :)

    Insomnia maybe

  • @NicolaiFre thanks a lot! I don't have any Periphery... I'm gonna check them out. thanks!

  • @egyokeo And btw.. What about a song from An Endless Sporadic's new album? :)

Point of no return perhaps.THAT would habe been amazing. I'm sure you can do it ;)

  • behaving badly...learn it now maybe? please??

  • @jacksdrumshop hmmmmm... Cafo was on my list for next... but that song is so long.. and really my favorite part is the 13/16 section in the middle. Listnin' to Behaving Badly now.... (time passes)...yah, it's fucking great. what do you like about it? nothing stands out for me except that it's a cool song. there's like no show-off points in it, but it's cool.... (listnin'...) yah, you know this song never stood out to me. it's a song I would jam to and not worry about each part... hmm (thx)

  • @egyokeo

exactly, no stand out stuff but a GREAT song nonetheless. definitely an improv/groove cover kind of song

  • Navene would be proud.

  • @theberzerker0 haha thanks... I think he would cringe but maybe he'd applaud the effort. seriously the hardest song I've ever attempted, and I still need practice.

  • dude, YES. I can't help but try and memorize the songs off this album when it comes on. You killed it.

  • @andyTHPS thanks Andy! Yeah, it's a great album isn't it? I saw you gave props to it on your last vid... if you haven't seen it, check out Navene Koperweis playing this song live, posted by sickdrummerdotcom... SOOO much energy. Talk about pwning a drumkit. Once I saw that video I just had to have a go at it.

  • @egyokeo mmph, new CAFO live vid upp'd by sickdrummer

  • Oh my god, I love this so much! Animals has been my favorite band since January, and I've been watching and enjoying your vids for a few years, so this is such a nice addition to your Cover collection :D

  • @cavedweller1996 thanks! yeah, I've been listening to Animals as Leaders almost daily since I got introduced to their music in January too!

  • If you're into this whole crazy-time-signature-switching-up kind of music, I'd recommend This Town Needs Guns for you. They aren't NEARLY as heavy as these guys, but they're very varied and will definitely contribute a fun cover.

  • @ezzbbj8 Thanks! I'll check them out...

  • Really solid cover. Well played.

I tried playing this song myself, but I failed miserably. I just couldn't keep up with the song, but you played it really precise and accurate, in my opinion.

You're my favourite drummer on Youtube, so please keep on posting drum covers. I love watching them!

  • @Neif3l THanks! I know how you felt. This song is at 170bpm. I had to break down every part and learn it slow. I got to where I could play through at 130bpm, then 140, 150... at that point, the song was too fast for me and I had to start pulling out some of the double bass parts and making up some single bass patterns that sounded ok. Then I could get to 170 finally and this was the first take where I got through it w/o complete failure! Got a new cover coming! in 2-3 days I hope...

  • Great Cover!!! and sick fill at 0:55!! haha

  • @asdrummer2008 Thanks! and Thanks! I wanted to be able to play this song at a level were I could throw in my own stuff, rather than concentrating so hard at just keeping up. Not there yet, though! That fill I actually had planned out. Mostly I improv my fills. not this time.

  • Hey I noticed your going to try responding to everyone so I just wanted to say your one of the coolest most intresting guys I've seen on or off youtube! Uhhhh....other than that I was wondering your name form Ren and Stimpy right?

  • @tigerkidtre thanks a lot! I really appreciate that. I've got something really cool I'm working on for my next vid. Should be ready in a few days. You got it! My name is from Ren and Stimpy. Although I spell it rwong. I kinda don't like it anymore lol.. but I've been using this name for my online name in gaming since Quake 1 came out in the mid '90s. Now I'm kinda stuck with it.

  • wow dude, this song didn't own you. you owned the song. amazing cover.

question: how long did it take you to learn this song?

  • @tbjas thanks! This was the hardest song I ever tried to learn. The double bass was the major reason it was so hard. It took about a month of daily 1-hour practices! This take was the first one where I didn't completely fall apart in the middle.

  • Great cover, man!!!

  • @TheCuddlyKnife Thanks, cuddly sharp blade! No, really, thanks a lot!

  • can i make a request? do a cover of "Codex" by "Veil of Maya"

    that would be amazing :)

  • @maplehappy Never heard of them, but looked them up on youtube and that song is awesome. Downloading the album! We'll see if I could ever play that, though.. the drummer is pretty solid with the double bass. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • @maplehappy Been listening to "id" all day... my favorite track is Mowgli so far.

  • @egyokeo Mowgli is a great one! i really like dark passenger too....and namaste. whole album is great :) glad you like em!

  • @maplehappy Alright... it's decided. My next project is going to be Mowgli. I just transcribed the drum part for that song. I think it'll take me a week or so to get any good at it. I'll be uploading a vid as soon as I have a decent take! Thanks again... I love finding new music. But it also makes me sad ;-)... these bands I'd never heard of that are insane and awesome... everybody should know them! They deserve bags of money.

  • @egyokeo Awesome! Cannot wait! :)

  • How did you learn how to play this?? Help me out?

  • @rcpbubi I transcribed most of it, to pick up some of the double bass tricks. Then I put the song in a program that allows you to record over it and lay a click down on it. I could slow it down, too. So, I worked out all the parts at slow speed, then day after day tried to get it faster. This take was the first time I got through it at the full speed without completely messing up!

  • Oh..... its index31415.html ....... ok......

  • @JasmineYuan7 you found it! cool... thanks for stopping by and for the posts. I've had that pi site for years and this was the first time I actually linked it to my youtube account to be able to meet some people who stopped by... so thanks.

  • what is the index to find the million digits of pi?

  • I'm here for the pi.........

  • @bm6nation index31415.html if you type that after the big long 'pi' domain name in your browser's address bar, you'll find the million digits! Thanks for stopping by!

  • @egypkeo. Thanks for telling me where to go... Thanks a bunch :)

  • Try something good and maybe il give a fuck.

  • Thanks for the PI!

That song rocked too! Happy PI Day!

  • @aryansattack Cool! You're welcome. One slice of "Pi" and some music. Glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment! Happy Pi Day 2 u 2!

  • wheres pi D:?

  • @CDPuffer Hey! Thanks for stopping by. try /index31415.html at the root of the big long pi domain. Just type it up there after the dot-com in the address bar of your browser, hit Enter and you should see it!

  • Hahaha, found the index but it was funny to see each one, especially index314. Thanks for a laugh and have a great Pi Day!

  • @CAJim2 Awesome! I'm glad you saw all the pages. It's almost like a game. Maybe someday I'll put a real one up there for some future pi day!

  • What was the website for the million digit pi. I couldn't find it :/

  • @MsKandRshow It's at index31415.html at the root of the pi domain. Easiest way to get back there (aside from me making a link :-P) is to google 'pi' and my site is the 2nd result (currently)... then in your browser's address bar, add index31415.html to it and hit Enter and there you go! Enjoy! Thanks for visiting!

  • You should just host the million digits on a public google doc or something. Embed it in your site if you want to hold on to the traffic

  • @jrweir Hey, that's a great idea! Thanks. My server is really old and I'm just too lazy to do any upgrades or switching over to an Amazon cloud or anything. I was thinking the Amazon cloud idea would be good, because then I could just crank it up (and pay a bit more) on/near pi day. But that google doc thing is free! On the other hand... it'll take the "fun" out of my site. Heh... Every year I tell myself I'll make something more interesting there, but never do.

  • @jrweir Another idea is to generate the digits with javascript or something so it runs on each visitor's machine... but it'd run too slowly to make 1M digits. Another idea is to compress it... but it's Pi! Irrational number... it hardly compresses and I'd still be serving up a near-1MB file.

  • You a fan of A7X?

  • @InfiniteTestings Yah, I bought their album. I actually attempted one of their songs. I ended up not really liking my performance so I marked the vid as Unlisted. Okay, I just listed it... should show up in my videos if you're interested... I'll probably mark it unlisted again later. It's called "Jazz Nerd Attempts Metal Drumming" (yah, not really metal, but anyway...)

  • @egyokeo I liked it :D Am a big fan myself :P

  • haha found the million before coming to youtube. very clever, sir. also very good on the drums. next time your server bogs down you should make it /the first at least 100 digits of pi

  • @evansdustin Thanks! good job finding the million! I was watching my server stats just now and I see some people are finding it, but most people have clicked on a link. Mostly from facebook. So, someone who found it made a link to it already. My server is going fine for now... maybe later today I'll have to change it up, though! thanks for stopping by and for the comments.

  • @egyokeo or hide it inside of the html somewhere. hard but not to hard. i'm actually learning the bass again i used to play in high school might put a video up later (like a month or two) welcome. no problem.

  • CANT FIND THE PI!

  • @4drumrzm4 then I shall help you! ... in the address bar, after the "dot com" part, add "/index31415.html" and hit Enter and you will enjoy 1M digits of Pi :)

  • @egyokeo thanks man, btw you should definately check out mike portnoy and jojo mayer if you haven't yet, amazing drummers

  • @4drumrzm4 Thanks. I have some Dream Theater albums so I've heard Mike Portnoy's drumming... I'll check out Jojo Mayer.

  • Happy Pi Day.

  • @gameking008 Thanks you too! thanks for stopping by!

  • @gameking008 Thanks you too! thanks for stopping by!

  • @gameking008 Thanks you too! thanks for stopping by!

  • I came looking for Pi. Now I have seen this video I don't care about it anymore. You have got some skills! 4th time I have played this..... It wont be the last

  • @daedlus Wow, thanks a lot! So glad to hear that. Yah, my pi site is really, really pointless. I was shocked that it got a lot of traffic the first year I had it on 3/14. Was confused why my email was coming in so slow until I checked the web logs, saw what the referers where, and finally figured it out. Just a novelty! It's fun. But thanks again!

  • help! i can't figure it out!

  • @Th3Jak3 index31415.html :-) Thanks for stopping by! (now nobody else will post a comment here because here's the answer ;-) ... BUT!... if I get too much traffic and my server bogs down, I'll just have to change it and make it a little harder!)

  • Great job, and HAPPY PI DAY!

I figured out the page myself ;)

  • @p9939068 awesome! And thanks x 2.

  • Wow. Just wow. Job well done. I wish I could play half as good. Even a quarter lol. Any tips on practicing all the poly-rhythms he uses?

  • @oshae80 Thanks! The tip is generally to slow it down, get it so that you can "understand" it at a slow speed. Once you have that, you can play it at faster and faster speeds. For that mid section where it's 4/4 hi-hat over 7/16 snare and bass. I learned that by just playing the snare pattern with hi-hat. Got that down just so that I could understand how 7/16 repeats over quarter notes. Then slow again to figure out where to fit in the bass drum. Only increasing speed when comfortable.

  • Dang, that rocked. Learn it all by ear? I've only been drumming for almost 2 years and can't even begin thinking of playing/memorizing that. Lol. Great job though!

  • @ericvader8 Thanks! No, I didn't learn it by ear. I transcribed a lot of it and learned everything slow, and gradually sped up until I could keep up with the 170bpm tempo. But I didn't want to learn it note-for-note. I wanted to pick up some of the tricks, but in the end I wanted to be comfortable enough with the song so that I could improvise as I felt it and put some of my own ideas into it.

  • can you try a cover of Andrew Bird's Anonanimal? I really love the song and I'm sure others will too once you do it, and there is an awesome drum part to it in the middle:)

  • @Tetrismeta I'll check it out, thanks.

  • Kick ass job. Once you get those double bass chops up you should do Two Weeks by All That Remains. My band's drummer won't touch it, he says it's too hard...

  • @yurifanforever thanks. That sound sounds hard already if your drummer won't touch it. Just tell him to take out some of the double bass parts and put in some toms instead ;-P.. I did that in a few spots of this song, where I couldn't keep up.

  • jus one more, im a guitarist, and it's hard, but the drums, holy crap, espically with two kick pedals, gotta move 4 things, very good job

  • @trusty345 yah but you have to play melodies and chords and stuff... drummers can just fake it if they don't know how to play a certain thing :-P .... (but thanks)

  • Man, this is intense, great work, about some Metallica soon? =D

  • @trusty345 thanks! Never thought about attempting Metallica. Hmmmm...

  • I couldn't help but ask whether or not you play music games anymore? Rock band 3 has some songs with your name on them :)

  • @steverxiii Not much, no. I play just casually, whenever someone comes over that wants to play. But I don't focus on excelling at them anymore like I used to. I kinda burned out on rhythm games. I still like them, but I don't have that drive to get high scores or 100%'s on 'em etc.

  • Lol you are... How long have you been playing? It's pretty impressive how you keep in perfect timing all the song and how you remember all of the crazy rythms the song has. Congrats dude!

  • @fersal1994 Thanks!! I first started playing in 1986, but took about a 10 year break starting in the late '90s. I didn't think I could memorize this song either! I transcribed much of it, kept practicing it in sections, had my eyes glued to the page always. Eventually I found I wasn't looking at it and by then I had the thing memorized. Thanks for the comment!

  • Dude the degree of difficulty in this song is outrageous... I just started to play drums this last month so I have a whole new appreciation for great drummers...

  • @stringX90 hey thanks for checking this out. good luck with the drums! I still remember the feeling of just starting out and sometimes it was mind bending. Good stuff, though.

  • Nerdy prog <3 Animals as Leaders is the shit!!!

  • @fersal1994 I must be super nerdy if I think nerdy prog sounds like metal prog.

  • How do you feel about doing drum covers for any of Ben Folds music? I know you said that you are very into jazz and I would love to hear a cover of Selfless Cold and Composed.

  • @Brendan90 Not sure, but I just watched a vid on youtube for that song. some live footage. I liked the song. Good drum part too.

  • @UtsusumiNi I've never heard of them! I'll have to add it to my list of stuff to check out. thanks for the recommendation.
