Individualist-conservatives do not want "everybody to be the same." However they do have a problem with a person being identified, not by his own unique personal qualities, but by his involuntary membership in such groups as race or ethnicity.

Furthermore, neither actors, nor members of any other profession, are disqualified from political discourse due to their means of employment.

Finally, when Wayne expressed his political views, he did so publicly not anonymously.

I saw this guy wearing a T-shirt that said Unhyphenated American on the front. I think that Hyphenated Americans scare the right only when there are three words in front of the hyphen: African, Mexican and Asian. They don't mind the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF). They would never bother members of the Irish-American Republican organization about hyphens because the terms Italian and Irish are just not as troublesome as African, Mexican and Asian.

The "right" doesn't like hyphens because they seperate. Multiculturulism is a bad thing. We are ALL Americans. it doesn't matter where you came from, it matters that you are here. Our nation was made great b/c people from all over brought what was good of their original culture and added to American culture, making it better. It is kind of like how a mutt is healthier than a pure bread dog. Common language and values are what held this country together, let us not forget that.
