I first "met" Camptown Races in Stephen King's "IT" and since that time I promised myself to listen to this song:Great, really great, you're doing such a nice work to make these old songs live once again(Digging my potatoes is one of my favourite).Greetings from Italy and sorry for my bad english
In Iceland this got turned into a Christmas song NÚ ER GUNNA Á NÝJU SKÓNUM. Nú er Gunna á nýju skónum, nú eru að koma jól. Siggi er á síðum buxum, Solla á bláum kjól. Solla á bláum kjól. Solla á bláum kjól Siggi er á síðum buxum, Solla á bláum kjól.
I heard this same song with different lyrics. The chorus line went something like, "bet my money on the Jack and the Queen, somebody bet on the trey". Anyone know about this?
Haha, due to this clip I'm now looking to buy a banjolele... I'm playing the harmonica since 1 year. I had the lyrics of this song, but didn't know it till I found your clip....
WHAT A GREAT INSTRUMENT!!
I saw allready a lot of your clips on youtube. Each time, the full stars!
Makes me smile...I'm trying to learn this to play for my son. If you don't mind me asking, what strum pattern are you using? Could you describe your exact thumb motion/tempo? I Love it! Thanks!
Like you I've looked at the video and I can't really see what I am doing and I don't have any method that I can describe other than that I only use my thumb and I sometimes brush up as well as down across the strings, but mostly it is a down brush. You just have to feel the rhythm of the song through your thumb.
you really brightened up my day.

It's an old minstrel song from the Civil War era. Foghorn Leghorn sang it all the time when he was in a good mood!

EVERY DAY my 2 year old son asks to see and listen to this video. He says "Doo-Dah! Doo-Dah!" when he asks. And then I play it and he starts dancing.
