imagine songs from the black hole if completed - would be out of this world, and stand out from the crowd, and be a musical masterpiece, and weezer behind it :) amazing!
The ending is a fucking eargasm. Five of Weezer's best songs put together in one amazing blend of sound (Why Bother?, Longtime Sunshine, No Other One, I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams, and Blast Off!).
I think the slightly chaotic ending kind of shows how this "longtime sunshine" thing is just like imaginary, and the "real world" is simply chaotic. But i love this version too, just like the original.
Fucking - Brilliant...I'm sorry but, that was honestly supurb...Rivers just captured the nostlagia of the album in the harmonising at the end, an epic end to what would have been an epic album its almost like he knows the spirit of SFTBH is still alive and hes paying tribute in its memory...just amazing...
I know completely what you mean, when he wrote this he was in his prime every bit of music he made came straight from his heart, I can just hear the raditude in this version
I dont think this one was ruined. I like it better. I mean, it ends with vocal harmonies of the SFTBH song lyrics. And it does it brilliantly for a rough tracking. I still hear the "soul" in this song. I find anything Rivers and Weezer did at this time to have more soul than anything.
@rheinze92 If you've heard the original by Rivers it had much more "soul" to it, like his heart was in the song. His high notes were very strong, almost strained. The other instruments were very unique giving it a more melodic sound. I'd say overall it just feels more home grown for lack of a better term. The new version is just lacks that and feels very flat and lacks harmony, the tag on the end just is the nail on the coffin. Sorry that's just how I feel.
@Paladin1611 That's fair, but it fits the SFTBH style that it got re-recorded for a lot better, at least in my opinion. It was a song back in the early days that Rivers decided to rework back in 96 for some reason, and I like how he tried to fit it in.
@Paladin1611 I totally agree with you, the original version had that "old weezer style" that weezer has lost. But i think that the "blast off" part was brilliant.

@Paladin1611 I actually hear less soul in Rivers's demo of LTSS in comparison to this. Here the song itself is lethargic and so is his vocal delivery. The band actually sounds worn out in this song, like you'd expect a band to sound after recording a record like Pinkerton. The song was never meant to be melodic and unique, it was meant to be the last thing you heard on SFTBH.
However, I also find this to be my favorite song to come out of the Pinkerton sessions, so I'm pretty biased.
@lazrpo pinkerton oddly enough, has both of weezers best and worst songs on it, in my humble opinion. But the one thing it does have is a very unique feel, one that hasn't been matched. I have respect to the album but as far as my favorite I still have to go with the blue ablum, followed by red, and make believe. I still like this version (except for the tag at the end) just not as much. btw What is SFTBH, could you enlighten me?
@Paladin1611 SFTBH, short for Songs From The Black Hole, was Rivers's attempt at a space-rock opera, but was eventually cancelled due to The Rentals having a very similar sound. The majority of the SFTBH tracks have been released. Some are in demo form (You Won't Get With Me Tonight, Oh Jonas, Longtime Sunshine, Dude We're Finally Landing, etc.). Others were worked on for Pinkerton (Tired of Sex, Getchoo, Waiting On You, No Other One, etc). 90% of them are good songs.
@lazrpo Also, ignore the "full album" titles in some of the videos. Someone made a compilation of songs that was literally a bunch of random Weezer songs and covers mixed in with SFTBH material. You may click on the video and get a SFTBH song, but it's not too likely.
@Paladin1611 This version definitely feels a touch stale and you can hear a decent amount of timing/tempo mistakes. It's raw--it's a demo after all. However, a lot of things are better in this version; the bass is eq'd much better, the falsetto harmony sounds great, and the ending is beautiful. Yeah, there are a lot of flaws (Rivers sounds like Kermit the Frog when he tries to belt some notes), but this is an amazing demo. It's an issue of taste my friend. It's more complex than you think.

The only appearance of Matt on the Pinkerton Special Edition, beyond the live tracks. It was oddly comforting.

Paladin1611 is an idiot. This version is easily superior.
The whole band on harmony towards the end is amazing.
