  • I live in Marblehead and when i was about 4 or 5 watched you guys film there. I waved at jake and he waved back

  • Brad Silberling looks very at ease directing this -- it's my favorite film by him. Also one of my favorite Sarandon performances.

  • It was such a rewarding film to work on, and working with Brad, Jake, Dustin and Susan was an absolute treat. We shot about three weeks in and around Boston, and the rest was shot in Los Angeles and Pasadena.

  • wow hav u met jake gyllenhaaal

    omg i love him

he is the hottest guy on earth

  • Yup, and he's a pretty nice guy. He really got into his character before each performance, in part of the video you can see him wearing headphones listening to classical music to calm him down as he sits next to our script supervisor, and near the end of the video you see him spinning in circles - trying to get dizzy just before he has to act out a scene where he's confused. Also Jake and Dustin Hoffman really bonded during the 16 weeks it took to shoot the film.

  • Aah that's right, he does a little cartwheel in front of the house set in the video. No I'm not in the film, I worked behind the scenes as what's called Video Assist, where I recorded and played back what the cameras shot for the director to watch immediately after a take to see if they got the shot. I'm in the making of video, I'm carrying a video monitor through the woods at :25 in, smiling at the camera.

  • I've never seen him cartwheel that I can remember.

I can tell you though that he's a lousy driver, he almost crashed our picture car when we were filming in Marblehead, MA. ;-)

  • 0:25 ellen <3

  • Ellen was so sweet to work with! The movie was made before Gray's Anatomy was on the air, so she was hardly known back then when we shot the film. We traveled to Boston to shoot the first three weeks of the film, and I would keep seeing her in the hotel gym working out. I had no idea she was cast as Bertie the Postmaster in the film (I thought she was just a guest in the hotel, and I almost asked her out!

  • Really ? I'm glad to know that she 's sweet to work with :)

She's so amazing ..in all of her movies .

    She's a great actress , she does a good job .

You're lucjy to met her ^^

  • this was shot in my hometown!

  • Where do you live, was it the parts we shot in Marblehead? We shot in a few towns surrounding Boston, and we stayed at a hotel in Danvers.

  • It's been awhile since I last viewed this. Gotta tell ya...you did a great job of capturing those moments! I was on the set for 2 days with my old '67 GTO and enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks again for posting this. Amazing to think that Jake and Ellen were virtual unknowns at the time

  • Thanks for posting this. A great movie that should've received more attention.

  • I agree, Moonlight Mile was overlooked by the audience as I don't remember it being marketed all that well.

  • cooool you know ellen pompeo ;D

d'you have some other videos from film sets?

  • Ellen was so sweet! I first met her in the workout room of the hotel they put us up in, as we all flew into Boston a couple days before we started shooting. Only her and I were working out in the room, and we started talking, and only on the first day of shooting did I realize that she was in the film we were about to shoot!

  • The scene with the red bench at the park was shot about 50 feet from my house. As a matter of fact, I could see my house if I turned around while sitting on the bench. The park is called Governor's Park, It has a nice view of Gloucester both night and day.

  • i love this. i saw MM b/c i found out Ellen Pompeo was in it, and i'm such a huge fan of hers from Grey's Anatomy. it makes me so happy to hear that she's a swetheart b/c she seems so down to earth.

awesome vid. thanks so much for sharing

  • thanks for sharing! I don't usually like this type of film (I'm more of a stuff-blowing-up-action-type of girl :-) ), but this one blew me away....such a beautiful story and everyone was great, especially Ellen Pompeo, who was just fantastic. I'm working on my first set next week, hopefully it's as enjoyable of an experience as you had on this one. Thanks!

  • I hope you have a great experience on your first time on a set, walking onto a working stage is truly magic.

Ellen was wonderful to work with too, I first met her when the crew all arrived in Boston to start the first day of filming. I had arrived about four days earlier, and I saw Ellen working out in the hotel gym - at that time I didn't even know who she was. And we talked like "normal people, as I didn't know she was Bertie in the film!

  • I'm glad you liked it! I've been working on motion pictures for over ten years now, and I have to say that Moonlight Mile was one of best experiences I've ever had while working on a film. Jake was wonderful, Ellen was so sweet, and Dustin Hoffman kept us all laughing!

  • Thanks for this!!! I loved that movie, and I adore Jake Gyllenhaal. The whole vid was great! Great to see some new inside stuff! C:

  • great vid.

I remember first time i saw this film, goosebumps all over my body

  • It was amazingly fun and insightful to work on, I would love to have the good fortune of working with Brad the director again.

  • Thanks for putting this up! It's very nice to see some pure footage. You can see y'all had a blast! I'm loving the old games that come up on some movie sets - like Rock, Paper, Scissors! :)

So why exactly do you find Brad such an amazing director? What did he do to make you so enthusiastic about him? And (I hope you don't mind answering all these questions) did you get the chance to talk to Ellen Pompeo? I love her in Grey's Anatomy and this video made me wonder how she is in real life.

  • I liked Brad as a director mostly because he's so "personable", he's so easy to get along with and so friendly. And Ellen is so incredible, I first met her before we started filming as she was working out in the hotel gym, we both started talking, and I didn't even know she was cast as Bertie in the film. I was so surprised to see her the first day on the set!

  • Oh, that's wonderful to hear! Seems like you've met some inspiring people. I envy you... ;)

  • great work! i really enjoy moonlight mile movie, masterpiece!:)

  • It was a great experience working on the movie, the director, the cast and the crew were all a blast to work with. And I loved working in Boston, what a pretty city that is.

And the movie is based off of a personal experience of the director's, which made it even more special to work on.

  • I've worked on over twenty films now, but the experience of the time on Moonlight Mile was probably the best memories I have in the film industry. Brad is the best, and I hope I have the good fortune of working with him again sometime soon. If you have access to a film scanner, I'd love to see some of your pictures!

  • radarange - Nice, nice vid compilation enhanced by the Stones' classic song. My car ('67 GTO) and I were on the set for 2 days in Gloucester in 4/2001. Great time w/ amazingly warm weather ( bad for the movie snow and the heavy clothing we had to wear). Sorry I missed Hoffman & Sarandon although Jake and Ellen were shooting their scenes those days. Brad Silberling was a very nice guy. Got some nice pics while on the set.

Glad the film got all those good reviews!

  • this was shot in my hometown of marblehead MA

    :D

  • Yup, we shot a good part of it along a main street in Marblehead, what a lovely place you're from! They kept the crew in a hotel in Danvers, too bad we couldn't have stayed somewhere closer to town.
