Hey rugersix and iraqveteran great video. Hey rugersix what kind of stain do you have on your 59/66 a1? That looks really beautiful I just got a Yugo and want to do it like yours thanks
Damn you have great editing software! I only have this cheapy free thing that came with my old cassette tape camcorder and you have to do everything frame by frame pretty much.
Try pulling back on the bolt slightly at the same time as inserting the rounds but be careful and keep your finger of the trigger and point in safe direction!
@thumperpaul i hate the liberals!!!! down campbell with his gun scare tactics and the idiots back then that followed him we need to change our laws and get some freedom back
Those are some nice rifles fellas! That wasn't too bad for a Chinese SKS, although I've heard that the Russian ones were better. That Yugo rifle looked decent too. I wish I could find a place to see how accurate my Mosin is past 100 yards. Have you or Iraqveteran8888 fired an SVT 40? Those look pretty cool as well.
the clip is unfortunately designed to be pushed down from inside the clip itself where you can reach, so the best way to do it is to lift the first round and use it to push the others down
proper maintenance and lubrication would end that stripper clip problem.....i only had that problem after leaving it in a closet for a few months without use.
how much did the type 56 cost you because i wasgoing to get thy yogo one but it doestn have a chro barrel so where and how much did it cost you for it
@ashisturtwig123 I just went to a gun show here yesterday and I was able to pick one up that has never been fired looks brand new out of the box for $260 trust me though I looked around till i found exactly what I wanted. I would say fair is between 250-350.
I think you guys kind of have to push down all the way in the back of the top round. When you push down somewhere in the middle, the rim of the rounds tilts a bit in the stripper clip, and causes it to jam. If you push down on the back of the round, it wants to go straight down.
Those stripper clips are tricky, but after a lot of practice they can be mastered. For me, the main thing is to use one quick motion. If you stop before all the ammo is in the magazine, it is a booger. LOL! I do love these rifles though. I have owned 4 and am about to purchase another one. They are very versatile and tough and you can do a lot of shooting without going broke. And they get a big WOW from me just because of all of the customizing and options that can be made on the rifles.
in regard to the stripper clips I found that it helps to press down as close to the base of the rounds as possible now I basicaly try to put my finger in the rim of the cartrige and have had almost no problems sence
In regard to stripper clips: the first time I used one it parted the palm of my hand very nicely! Medic!! The next few times they just jammed, raised hell, or outright laughed at me!! If you polish the park off, they work much better. I just tossed them in my war chest for conversation pieces!! !@#$%^&_+ it!! They must have been designed by someone from NATO!!
What a fine rifle. Thanks IV8888 and Rugersix for posting this series on this very interesting rifle! :) Though it may not be the most modern rifle out there, like the M14/M1A, it's deadly, reliable, and durable to boot! I am particularly on the Chinese and Russian variation, myself.
The stripper clips can be a pain, no doubt about it, but once you work them in, they are fast as can be. I'v got a video in my channel that shows some of the better stripper clips in my inventory hard at work.
hey man thanks for making the video's i was wondering would you recomend a 20 round tapco mag, and the stock two is see your are all in the original ones are the tapco any good?
just getthe imported surplus, you can get yugo fmj for like 3-4$ a box of 15 from J&G in arizona. to my understanding the yugo ammo has a bit higher pressure so its a bit "hotter" round with a little better penetration. Blast holes in 3/8 thick steel plate. aint no AR15 doin that! Great company and people by the way. talk to Andrew. if you don't mind voiding the C&R status of your rifle, the Tapco detachable mags work better than others.
Maybe you guys should try to make some sort of tool to assist in the loading of rounds through the stripper clips.(?) Maybe something made of a simple piece of wood.
Harry the marksman! Btw, you're a Marksman too in the first video, I saw you shooting on the plate which went very well. lol @ the stripper clips. Wow! What a beautiful shooting looking you guys got there! 5:00 Nice shooting at 7:50 must be very relaxing to do! Can you just shoot in an area like that in GA? Or was that on a farm terrain or something?
Timing of your pip vid is out of sink, Shot - hit - report. Not, shot - (hit, report.) There is equal time for the report as there is time for the hit after ignition.
I stated in the video that the TOF was incorrect. The bullet cam at this point is still a little bit on the experimental side, so its mainly so you can see where the rounds are hitting.
Oh yeah...I'm thinking about scoping one, but if I am going to do it, I'm gonna do it right and score a good PSOP scope with a 7.62x39mm bullet drop reticle.
Requires installed a side plate but IMO it is worth it, and the best way to scope an SKS and get repeatable accuracy.
fun fun!! makes me want to go shoot mine. except its a little too dry out here right now to be using steel jacketed ammo. dont want to spark any fires.
I've never really had any issues with the stripper clips myself (go figure the first time I actually use them on camera they mess up...knock on wood...lol)
I've found that if you just use them about 3-4 times they break in and function a lot better.
I suppose while cleaning them a light coat of oil would not hurt either.
Thanks for the input. Thats what my videos are about...everyone having an input and being totally unbiased.
if you can get ahold of the older chicom stripper clips that came on the 70's era steel core ammo they seem to be pretty high quality. these new production chinese stripper clips are pretty crappy they seem to have burs inside where the case rim touches a few uses like you said work the burs out.
Ruger, please remember to squeeze the trigger not pull (3:10) BTW Nice SKS I have a Russkie 1954 Tula...... If your ever in my neck of the woods we should go shoot some cans and targets and stuff...
a tip about the sks which i just found out and find that most people don't know.
is that for safety your actually supposed to use military ammo in them because the hard primers prevent slam firing apparently the soft primers of not military/ non wolf ammo can make the gun go full auto.
not to try and sound smarter than you just trying to get the word around. lol
Actually, that whole slam fire thing is a huge myth.
Slam fires are caused from a combination of extremely ditry weapons with floating firing pins, and shoddy primer seating depth.
In fact, the majority of slam fires in these certain set of condition happen to handloaders the most.
Factory ammo slamfiring is rare unless of course your weapon is filthy and you happen to get a primer that is overly thin (like some of the federal primers).
Yeah different ones do better than others. I have a Russian one tht I picked up in Georgia (the country) off an old rifle range. I would have gotten more if I knew I could get it back so easily.
good shooting.... The ATI stripper clips I have are garbage do you know of a good web sight to get the ones that are stamped CHINA on the bottom or any others that don't suck?

You can buy a windage adjustment tool for the SKS and I can say that it is a highly recommended product.
Using normal tools with often marr the thing to crap and back.

Will a flash hider/muzzle brake for an SKS decrease how loud the rifle is?
IWorshipMCR 2 years ago
A muzzle brake with make it louder but reduce recoil.
A flash hider just assists in hiding a bit of the muzzle flash, although I must say not very well....lol

The stripper clips can just be finicky.
I have found that once they get worked a few times they tend to function much better.
A dry lubricant like Strike Hold applied to the clip helps too.
Under no circumstance should ammo be oiled though....
