My wife and I make middle class incomes, but could not afford to be taxed much more than we already are with out making cuts such as moving to a cheaper neighborhood or replacing our used cars with even older cars. The only two neighborhoods around here cheaper than ours have higher crime rates, and all of our "extra" money goes into our 401k's at a rate that is just slightly above the "recommended" contribution level.
So if I have to retire later, move to a dangerous neighborhood, or drive a clunker in order to help the poor, I might as well just stand in the welfare line myself. As I said before, why try so hard just to have it taken away and given to those who aren't willing to try harder.

If it makes cops' work easier, I am for it. I don't want assault weapons in my streets. Well if it's a jacketed hollow/soft point that expands to keep from over penetrating, it's a danger "cop killer" that needs to be banned.
But if it's a full metal jacket, it's "armor piercing" and needs to be banned. Get it?
(nevermind that vests will only stop low power handgun bullets, so any common rifle caliber is an "armor piercing cop killer")

Can anyone tell me when a Cop stopped a car jacking or when they stopped a home invasion or any Murder? No Cops come to a CRIME SCEEN and you call 911 because there is a CRIME going on, so the cops will come. Please protect yourself and your family, dont wait for the cops to come. The bad guys have guns and will kill you, protect yourself.

I don't doubt that Mr. Obama and Mr. Holder are intelligent and mean well, I just disagree with them on this. As a citizen of this great country with all the rights that the bill of rights protects for me, being a law abiding citizen and not having any mental issues, I have the right to any handgun or long gun. Having more bullets or other features should not prevent me from owning them. Why are my rights worth less than the next persons?

1. Proven "assault weapons" ban did nothing. They are not, in fact, "assault weapons" as "assault weapons" are fully automatic and these are semi-automatic and thus do not fit the defintion.
2. sopmodm4 is correct that high velocity makes a bullet penetrate a vest.
3. No law enforcement benefit to banning assault weapons, but we'll do it to keep the sheep toothless and helpless.

the first amendment does not protect slander or lyble. they are not protected because they encroach on the rights of the person who is being hurt or attacked. so hate speech is not protected by the first amendment. thats why you can be arrested for death threats.

If it makes cops' work easier, I am for it. I don't want assault weapons in my streets. Unfortunately, hicks in rural areas love the idea of guns, but the thing is, most people live in urban and suburban areas where gun crime is a serious concern. We should allow the hicks their rifles, but they can accomplish what they need to without assault weapons.
That's all we moderate pro-2nd Amendment, pro-law enforcement, pro-common sense gun control Republicans ask.

Less guns in the hands of regular citizens does not equal less gun crime.
Assualt weapons (terrible phrase) are rarley used in crimes and honestly there is no significant difference between an assault weapon and a regular rifle.

I agree that gun control is a band-aid for the problem of violence, but there are many people who are too timid to pour funds and resources into the communities afflicted by violence and lack of opportunity.

Assault weapons aren't on your streets. According to the FBI, they're involved in less than 2% of gun related crimes.
And according to the FBI, more people are beaten to death each year than killed with assault weapons.
