He was always Christian. His father didn't care much for religion in general and *may* have been Atheist. He was Christian because of his mother. Obama spent much of his childhood in Indonesia, where he was exposed to Islam as it was common practice there. But he was not a Muslim.

Something just struck me, now I know this is nothing new but I think often we put the cart before the horse in this choice of worldview and its affect on us. Usually when we see a person who has chosen to believe in evolution we think that their life is then changed for the worse and sin enters in because now they think they can make their own rules. But I think often it is the other way around a person 1st gives into sin and then chooses a worldview to fit their lifestyle. Evidence is ignored.

The tea party is getting a lot of press, incumbents do not do well when the economy is weak, and Obama's low approval rating is somewhat of an obstacle for many in voting democrat. I hope you are right, but I have not lived long enough to see a more anti-democrat political climate. I know an ultraconservative favoring a 10% federal flat tax rate is going to defeat a democrat incumbent to represent Arizona in the house.

I'm an atheist, I understand. But I believe most of the founding fathers were deist, right? They believed in a god, but allowed church and state to still exist. I'm guessing in their minds, "God doesn't have a religion." Jefferson even said, "inalienable rights endowed by their creator." Would I say the founding fathers established a Christian nation? Absolutely not! But a nation under God? Certainly. Strengthen seperation of church and state. I hope Obama's an atheist !

To me, that is the true meaning of separation of church and state; he is free to practice any personal religion (or lack thereof) as he wishes in his personal live, but keep all political and nationally affecting decisions secular.

His evasiveness leads to most of the doubt. Honestly, he may not have an actual birth certificate or even truly know where he was born. Hell, I don't remember where I was born, I have to take someone else's word for it.
I don't like or trust him because of his economic beliefs. I think the democrats kind of threw him up as a sacrificial lamb, but it might bite them in the ass.
As far as his popularity, we'll see in November which party comes out ahead.

His short political career gives very little true evidence of his agenda. But his anger at the banks who paid back the gov't loans so they would be less subject to his rules is a good example, and a funny one. His speeches cannot be examples, as I have heard from his own mouth about his "Christian beliefs", then separately his "Muslim beliefs", and now these guys want to exalt his "atheistic education", lol. I'm just glad his health care is falling apart, and simultaneously keeping him busy.

1) His short political career indicates the Democratic Party just used him as a marketing tool to get into power...the PARTY is in power he's just a spokesperson.

I don't buy it.
My point still stands... we do not know our President. That isn't to say that we know any other President any better. The reason I commented is cause I hate to see people who usually look at the bigger picture get all glossy eyed when they talk about Obama.
You don't get to that level with truth and honesty... you get there with deception.
Change and hope? I haven't seen cahnge and I wasted no hope waiting for it.

I agree about taking off "so help me god" on the oath...having said that, think about the fact that Obama is the first black president(landmark!)...has a Muslim name...has to clean up all the shit that Bush did and get the country back on track. Do you think he wants to piss off half the country(religious freaks) by not saying "so help me god". He's trying to strike a balance in this country...give the guy a break!

That is not for me to say. I was simply stating that it is almost impossible to be elected to any public office without saying that you are a christian. Obama may well be a christian, but he was raised by a secularist mother so I have little doubt that he still has some of those ideals.

Some seem to be confused about atheism. As it has been said before by others, atheism is a religion in the same way that NOT collecting stamps is a hobby.
Religions have supernatural god(s), traditions, history, sacred books, ect. Atheism rejects all that nonsense. Atheism is pretty much the opposite of religion.

Atheists are a collective group seeking glorifacation through a new age social movement like the "Goths" and "Emo" trends.
If you title yourself a "Atheist" you are really closing your mind not only to this subject, but to the broader scope of your own personal beliefs.
If you want to be a member in a collective group that's fine, but do not start preaching like every Atheist on YouTube, get a grip on reallity and just exoress what you believe.

No, while I accept that plenty of atheists do join groups related to their Atheism and some do try to convert others. All atheists are not part of those groups. You misunderstand atheism. If somebody does not believe in god they are atheist whether they recognize it or not because atheism is 'a lack of belief in deities'. To call it a religion is also a stretch. No I do not missunderstand "Atheisim", it is you who missunderstands Philosophy and uses it as an aplication to form your own religeon.
Philosophy is not a religeon. "Atheisim" is.
Plain and simple if you call yourself an "Atheist" you are instantly a member of this "Collective Group" who are in the case of the "Atheist Experience" are television evangelists.
If the show was called "The Philosophers Experience" I could understand that., but then they would be fighting both sides of religeon.
