The environment is turning into another excuse to funnel money and power to governments. Why cant MTV present an issue and let the viewer draw their own conclusions? Oh, and youre not a journalist Emily.
Almost everything in our lives depend on oil. I personally like the idea to buy myself a electric car, but ... i live in Estonia, in winters can our air temperatures go -30"C or even more, batteries just not gonna work out correctly in those conditions plus batteries last 3-5 years, then i have to buy new ones, batteries contains acid and other crap, are expencive and electricity is expencive in our country.
@valevmer How did people heat houses before oil? Now combine all those advancements with modern technology and you have plenty of people like us living in Canada.
To all you pro-oil sands folk commenting: Google "Oilsands panel recommends critical fixes" and find the link from CBC with videos of Elizabeth Dowdeswell and John Baird. A panel was chosen by the government to find out if there was a "world class system" in place to monitor the oil sands like the oil companies claim and concluded that we don't.
Search "Schindler Fort Chipewyan" on youtube (shows proof of environmental and human impact).
For more watch/search: "Dirty Oil" and "Tipping Point"
It is good that these people in the industry took time out of their lives to talk to this stupid, stupid girl. What a waste of life she is. If she put as much energy into actualy doing something as she does into stopping something maby progress on her end could be made.
@BuiltEnvironment What a fucking waste of DNA you turned out to be. If you put as much energy into doing something about the environmental destruction as you do making stupid, stupid comments on here, we might actually be able to make some progress.
theres a quote I heard somwhere. 'If all insects were to disappear from the earth, within 50 years all life on earth would end. If all human beings disappeared from the earth, within 50 years all forms of life would flourish'.
Why don't you get a job and contribute to society?
by the way, fort mcmurray is quite awesome it smells like oil here. And oil smells good. We need to expand the oil sands and enrich our nation. Please stop polluting people minds and youtube space.
Just wondering how mining the tar sands causes floods .. in Manitoba? Also. I bet that boat she was on used some sort of fuel related to mining tar sands. Addicted to oil? How are you going to get from one place to the other? Walk? Ride a bike? Sure in your town. What about if you don't have the time.. especially if you want to travel somewhere far? Our answer: GAS.
You come up with a better solution to gas/oil and maybe then I'll praise you.
Emily Hunter - Fake journalist. She's not interested in facts that don't fit her preconceived conclusion that 'oil sands are bad!'. This is going to be viewed for years by 1st year journalism students as an example of poor investigative journalism.

High roller taking via rail to her destination. She'd have more clout if she was driving an electric car vs a spacious diesel sucking train.
