Dr. Williams seems to bring a sexy charm to classical organ music. We all caught her 'wink' of the eye as she came to the end of Widor's piece....hmmmmmm..!!! Interesting finaly.
She was one of thos people who were trying to show off by increasing the tempo. Would have been better at normal tempo. Also, what's up with the little wink at the end? Lol
THAT'S the largest organ in all of Russia?? Don't get me wrong, it's gorgeous, and it's big. But hell, all over Europe and the states that's only a "medium" size for us. I'm dizzy after watching that BTW.
Even though I am a tuba player and I love the Tuba, the pipe organ is by far my favorite instrument, and carol is by far my favorite organist. I enjoy listening to her play even more than tubist Roger Bobo and Qystein Baadsvik!
Carol, I am sure I've told you of your DIRECT role in my inspiration to play the organ. WELL. I have moved to CT to take classes with some rather exceptional individuals.. And I can play that now!!! amoung other fascinating, and historically significant works. Thank goodness for passion. and thanks to you.
This always makes me think of one perfect Spring day with a bright beginning and end and a quickly passing storm. It's full of movement, light and air, energy and life. No matter how rotten I can feel, Widor and Dr. Carol and this performance just make me get moving again! For me the Toccata is his most "celebratory" work, and no one animates it like Dr. Carol. Thank you... I wish I could have heard this live, too!! Even if it meant literally being a spider in a web in a corner somewhere...
PERFECTION, wonderful organ with a wonderful organist!.. Russia must be proud to have her. Beautifully done. Timing was perfect. a little slower than Virgil, but then nobody could compare with him.
I guess taste differs, but I find this rendition rather boring. It is after all the finale to a symphony. My personal favourite rendition of this work is that of Jonathan Scott on the organ of the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester
Great! but that last high note seemed slightly out of tune as she increased the volume on the final ensemble. I listened to it several times but maybe it's my hearing. Where was that organ built?
If ears could have screaming orgasms mine would be so exhausted right now!!! This is nothing short of glorious.... Widor's "Toccata" never sounded so good!
Its a shame really how we are unable to see sound (without the aid of hallucinogens). Im sure if one was able to, those last few chords would be blinding
This organ has only 81 stops (106 ranks, 5,582 pipes), which isn't big at all, but the Kaliningrad Cathedral organ apparently consists of two organs that can be played together. The bigger organ alone has 6,301 pipes, which is more than the International Performance Center organ, and together the two organs in Kaliningrad count 122 stops and 8,525 pipes.
Jschroeder is right. The 2002 Klais-organ in the video (International House of Music) has 87 stops, the new (just finished) 2010 organ at the Dom church in Kaliningrad has 90 stops.
Very tallented and well played Dr. Williams. It's the best that I've heard from you soo far. exceptional Organist -- and I liked the wink at the conclusion.
Carol is the best concert organist in the world, and a charming woman to meet in person. If you have the opportunity to hear her perform in San Diego's Balboa Park on the Spreckels organ, don't miss it.
Very fine looking organ indeed, but, this is the largest in all of Russia? Surprising, that with all of the great Russian composers, Rachmaninof, Prokoffief just for starters, with their incredible contributions to classical piano, no one in Russia really bothered much with the organ? Go figure.
Very fine looking organ indeed, but, this is the largest in all of Russia? Surprising, that with all of the great Russian composers, Rachmaninof, Prokoffief just for starters, with their incredible contributions to classical piano, no one in Russia really bothered much with the organ? Go figure.
You must be.... "You are" a great human being. It needs a lot of effort, studies, practice to play an organ.... not to mention the level you are playing it...
This is an art...
Love your music... Love you by only watching 2 videos....
i wonder if playing on that level - when the whole mind and the body is occupied with one big thing, that requires rhythm, awerness, but also soul - doesn't have to be a litte bit like joyful sex? is there something hidden in playing organ like "mindgasm"? i wonder, because only listening can already be so satisfying! :)
I completely agree, Vamp. Isn't there a very orgasmic quality to almost every impassioned organists bodily expressions in the very intense, emotional climax of a musical piece? Especially that of French romantic music. I believe that Dr. Williams has a very special connection with the sounds she produces. I believe that this sort of sound permeates deep within the souls of those who love it. Making a deep and forever lasting mark in our hearts.
After all of that great music...someone's worried about what kind of shoes you wear?...lol (joke)
Another... odd question, If you have memorized a piece and you know it VERY well, do you "space out" and just enjoy the piece. or still have to concentrate very hard....or the other extreme, does sheet music come very natural to you, music just flowing out of your fingers then through the pipes?
Oh--what a delicious flirt she is. She just won my heart. Finally an organist with (do I dare say it?) sex appeal. I'm in love. If she did a series for TV, I'd watch. She has just the right presence and charisma to become a major figure like E. Power Biggs with a few curves thrown-in. This is the kind of person the organ community desperately needs.
Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, in addition to all the other wonderful stuff about her and the performance, as an added bonus she has the piece memorized, too.
