St. Paul also speaks about holding fast to the traditions of the Church. Paul never exclaims to hold fast to the tradition of the bible. A Christian cannot hold fast to a book nor can a Christian worship a book. That is why Jesus established a Church and not a book. The Church is where we get our tradition and our scripture. Scripture did not give birth to the Church. Jesus gave birth to the Church, the Church gave birth to the written word. The written word is meant to be for inspiration.
"ye received the word of God which ye heard of us."
It is very important to make this distinction of "hearing" the word of God versus "reading" the word of God.
Jesus preached the word of God to His apostles because He is the living word. Therefore Jesus does not need a book.
The apostles in turn preached the word of God to the people. The apostles received the word from Jesus which is known as Tradition.
The word of God existed first by Tradition and was orally. Something to think about.
