  • I really love this song I think that the most of the plays are mine jejejejejejeje

  • How old is he?

  • Makes me think of New Order who had actors play a cover band named The Killers in their music video Crystal. The Killers get their name from the fake New Order cover band, I find that funny. Their first music video, Somebody Told Me, looks a lot like New Order's Crystal music video as well.

  • the guy playing the singer is hot. haha.

  • jason has always been self-depreciating...

  • You say actor's play the part of the band, such as?

  • You know what is weird? The people in this video aren't the real Starflyer 59.

  • Ive been there fan since i was introduced to them by my dad when i was like 6 there amazing and just to say they should be way larger then they are but my generation only listens to rap crap and it sucks or jutin bebler *cough* sucks anyways god bless you all and starflyer59 keep up the good work and also good bless all the christian bands out there that are so amazing ly good :D

  • shoegaze \o/

  • hahaha wow... c'mon jason martin you arent bad looking... why have some kiddo play you... ah well, i like it anyways ;)

  • wow great song, the Christian music is the best, ALL GLORY TO LORD

  • Best S59 song ever.

  • There are five kids in their family. Three guys, two girls. I am one of the daughters of the girls. Lol. My last name isn't Martin. And Ronnie Martin is also my uncle. xD It's confusing.

  • Im never trusting Wikipedia ever again. But naw its not that confusing just didn't know there was more than two.

  • LOL. Yea. xD

  • hey i got a question for you then, is your uncle jason portuguese?

  • trippy song... =]

  • I love this song. It's amazing.

    SF59 is great. :)

  • Jason, the actual singer of StarFlyer 59, is my uncle. :)

  • Doesn't that make you Ronnie Martins Daughter/son or are there other Martins

  • @shiningwillowlittle Tell your uncle (Jason Martin) to keep up the good work. I've been following SF59 since their beginning (and I'm sure there are a lot of fans like me). Oh, and that he should come out to the east coast more often. :)

  • @shiningwillowlittle So is your dad Ronnie Martin?

  • @shiningwillowlittle

One of my favorite artists ever. Been listening ever since 'Silver'.

Tell him he needs to come and play a show in Vancouver, BC so I can have a chance to see Starflyer live sometime before I die ;)

  • @shiningwillowlittle is he really that is so freaking sweet!!!! tell him someone from youtube says hi lol :)

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!

  • who is her?

  • LoVe ThIs bAnD So OrGiNaL!!!!

  • By any chance, would anybody happen to know the names of these actors/actresses?

  • The actor for the lead singer is Dustin Kime.

  • Thanks, babe. You know any other names? Where did you find out his name?

  • I noticed one of the comments said "i play the lead singer" and later found out that that was Dustin Kime. ;P

  • Great band

  • Love the whole vid! The production and directorship on this amazing!!

  • foda na moral

  • has anyone noticed that there's also a bald guy in a hood in the video for No New Kinda Story? I know in that video he represents death, but is the allegory supposed to carry over to this video as well?

  • Yeah, I've noticed that,

because I WAS the bald 'Death' guy

in No New Kinda Story. lol

I can't answer your allegory question, though.

  • no way? That's awesome! That's my absolute favourite music video.

  • Cool! It's great to hear people are still enjoying that video. My friend and his business partner produced that for a VERY small amount of money, considering what they ended up with. My wife did the makeup, and my dad played the old man. The whole thing was a lot of fun.

  • You should congratulate yourselves, it looks stunning--very much like a classic film (reminds me of some of the foreign films Janus Films produced in the 50s and 60s). I feel like I've written a lot about how incredibly wonderful and moving I find that music video, but I don't think I have anything online. Love it beyond words, you should be extremely proud of the work you did.

  • This is kind of a long shot, but do you think I could interview you about the making of the video? I've been meaning to write about it on my blog for a while, and that would be a pretty amazing way to kick it off. I'm known more for my fiction, but I'm a writer nonetheless.

That's fine if you want to pass, just thought I'd ask!

  • @rivkapaffgen, Thanks SO much for all the kind words. You're on the right track with your allusion to 50's foreign films. The imagery and setting of the beach scenes are lifted unapologetically from Ingmar Bergman's 'The Seventh Seal', kind of an homage actually. I was really only a small part of the making of the film, but I'd be happy to be interviewed. My friend, whose company produced it, can back up my memory on things, and there's a good chance he might be willing to talk to you himself.

  • Ha ha, I knew it! I've been saying for quite a while now that the music video reminds me of The Seventh Seal. One of my favourites.

Well, I'll send you a message with my email and we can really get down to business. I'd love to talk to anyone else involved, that would be stellar. Much thanks!

  • i like it. kind of daniel amos-y

  • This video is brilliant! Listen to the song. He says "my talents an acquired taste, which is what you say when you've missed your train". He's saying should he sell out & make the kind of music that is popular & make lots of money, hence the title "I win", or continue for art sake. The reason the people are actors is this is what the mainstream wants ie: pretty boys & pretty girls to sell records. This song & video has a ton of messages about the shallow nature of the entertainment industry.

  • is there any explanation to this video

  • I love this song and the point is clear to me. I think the same thing as you. So, agreed and nice explaination lol

  • That's strange?!? Somehow my comments from three months ago got under your heading. Hummmm

  • lolwut

  • oooo

I prefer the actors hehe they have more style hehe

  • Evidence that the point they are trying to make in this vid is pervasively true. :]

  • that is dustin!! :D

  • cual es el nombre del cantante en esta cancion porfavor

  • jason martin

  • where is the martin brother?

  • none of the real band members are in the vid.

    they got actors.

  • Jason Martin likes the band "new order", "new order" did a music video called "crystal" in which they made no appearance but instead had a younger band mime everything just like in this video, is there a connection?

  • Yes.

  • Dude I agree... Sundown is there greatest. It almost makes me think of Pink Floyd's brick in the wall part II

  • hm.. osrta i guess. but this song is so awesome

  • I luv this song but i think Sundown, and fel in love at 22 are good too....Sundown i belive is an awesome song

  • is this christain?

  • yahuh

  • i have the same question

  • the dood singing looks like Jim Ward...

  • Jason is the most humble guy in the music industry...he doesn't even appear in a obvioulsy well video to his own music!

  • alguien sabe como se llama el que canta en este video?? porfavor

  • Should I travel

And maybe get the starring part

    And the monogram says

    'I-W-I-N'

  • I love this song, but it's better to have this group XD --- ---

  • Suweet!

  • I W I N ... *lets out gasp of understanding* I could never get what they were saying in the corus! XD

  • i will never understand why they havent got any bigger than they have been....truly the most underrated band EVER

  • i agree with you and have wondered this myself

  • is that ronny martin???

  • i have the same questionnn

  • i have the same question

  • Actually the red guitar in the video belongs to the girl playing keyboard, Leigh Fox- she was lead singer of rock band The Pinkslips and played that guitar in her band- It is a custom Eastwood reissue of an Airline guitar- exactly like the one Jack White plays. Leigh is a huge fan of The White Stripes and was endorsed by that guitar company.

  • yeah i totally forgot what type of guitar it was. i thought it was a scheckler but it definitely was leighs guitar. they wanted that kinda style guitar for the shoot. worked perfectly.

  • Do you Know the "singers" name???

I mean the actor, Id like to know if he really plays in a band

  • hey i do play in a band... actually its my own solo project. :)

  • DUSTIN!

  • I cant find that band... how do you know that?

  • The Pink Slips? Like from the movie Freaky Friday?

  • ooo

  • i love this band,

but the video makes no sense at all

  • could someone tell me if this band is christian???? please

  • As far as I know, yes.

  • yes!!!!!!!!

    Prase the lord

  • eiii estoy deacuerdo contigoo xd

  • i like 1:50-2:00, it sounds kewl

  • quite sick, to replace the real bandmembers, isn't it?!?! or is it a fake SF59 song?

  • they didn't replace the band members, they got actors for the vid. it has to do with the song, ya know, talking about the industry and everything. personally, i think this vid is genius [=

  • its a scheckler guys. it really wasnt that nice of a guitar.. not my style. but it worked well for the video and thats all that matters.

  • i think that guitar is a gretsch but a reissue of an older model possible

  • I love it =)

  • Hey, does anyone know the kind of guitar the "lead" is playing, per se?

    It looks sweet!

  • ohh god.. i forget what type i was playing.. a sheckler or something like that.. it was a horrible guitar man! im much happier with my gibson!

  • hahah all good, it's probably heckuva better than this Behringer i play, it's only a beginners guitar, but, yeah i'll keep the advice in mind too haha,

thanks for the quick response! haha i was thinking "oooh maybe in a week i'll get a reply" ahaha

  • ha. nah man. i got this video tracked! love to hear what people think about it! it still cracks me up when people think im jason martin! lol.

  • ahh i see. it is an awesome vid i must say, it's one of the first songs i heard by SF59, but when i saw the video, i was kind of confused 'cause, i was thinking, "jason martin and ronnie martin (joy electric) are brothers...wouldn't they have a resemblence?" lol then i researched and realized what was going on in the video, and actually came to appreciate it a bit more.

  • ps: you could definitely be easily passed off as the lead of starflyer though, 'cause you'd done this quite naturally, like you really were jason. lol

  • lol. yeah it was a blast to do. it came natural cause im a musician too. obviously... so i just kinda entered into that mind frame and did my thing. its such a chill song, when i was younger i used listen to them. and after the video i started all over again! my one friend actually just toured with joy electric! craziness! i hope to be going on tour later this spring with a buddies band damiera but we shall see.

  • looks like it would be haha. awesome! you did good man!

yeah they've transformed quite a bit over the years i've noticed with their songs, but some how remained in their own style. it's not the kind of stuff you hear on the radio all the time, but i think it'd be good if it was.

    haha sweet!

that'd be fun if you could. come to canada! lol

  • oh haha I thought he was the lead singer from Coldplay lol!

  • i love it.

i love it love it love it.

no joke, i just played it like 6 times in a row.

i think i might be obsessed.

and the singer is such a cutie.

    so adorable.

  • lol. well thank you but im not really the lead singer of the band! ha.

  • r u realy the guy singing

  • Do you remember what kind of guitar you were "playing" in this video?

    I loves it!

ps: good syncing in the vid by the way, you've outdone ashlee simpson lol

  • the guy in the hoodie is not the singer. i hoped that i was going to meet the band but they didnt come to the shoot.

  • I've been a fan since almost the Dance House Children days and I like the video:). I think it's funny.

    It's anti shoe gazer.

  • Wrong mate, its nu-gazer ha ha ha

  • i think the dude with the hood is the singer

  • ..this was the first starflyer video i have seen....and i thought to myself....hey, they dont look like this do they?..they look cool,, which made it ok..haha...funny thing how music has become image orientated.

  • yeah that's not them

  • like new order

  • does any1 have the lyrics?i cant seem to find them

  • amazing.the guy is cute eventho he isnt the band member

  • I still don't get why this whole band is fake, for those of you who aren't familiar with starflyer, none of the actually band members are in this video.

  • i'm brazillian and i love starflyer 59...

please post the music "sound on Sound"

  • Think about it: I win.

    Checkmate.

  • I love this song !!

    Starflyer 59 Rocks !!

  • no comment O_o

  • Haha, well said...awesome song, ok video.

  • the chick on the keys is hot

  • I think so too.she so hot

  • I love that video...it reminds me of something that I used to know but have long since forgotten it. It reminds me of something somewhere...somewhere...I wish I knew what it was.

Anyways, I loved the sepia-toned scenes and the TV scenes. This video was very memorable.

  • my cousin is in this band

  • its so funny to see how people react to this video. some people hate it, some people love it. it seems to me that that people who hate it really dont understand the concept of the video and what the lyrics are actually saying, take some time and listen to it and watch it, and then youll understand...

well maybe im just biased cause im the pretend lead singer in the video... ha...

  • you are the reason this video is gay

  • please don't hate indie rock. we don't hate you!

  • I love Starflyer 59, but hate indie rock... MMM.. Weird. Anyway. God bless! Later.

  • Its awesome, Good song, Disfrutala Latin America

  • Reminds me of Kurt Cobain's appearance on live German television--he refused to lip synch and pretend to play his songs while a recording played over, so he simply performed in a mocking pantomime. Simultaneously hilarious and bizaare. I think Jason Martin is doing a little of the same here.

  • Do you think that Jason Martin is afraid he looks too old for a music video?? Is that the problem? Somebody tell him we DON'T CARE! He's GREAT!

  • I LOVE this song

  • Being a fan since dancehouse children days, I have to say I like how Jason has progressed. Im still a huge fan of the first records, but you cant do one style forever. I like how his voice is upfront and clear. Also, Jason has great riffs and fills. Nice.

  • Yea, I remember them (Ronnie And Jason) in high school when they were The Chant of The Flowered Underground. Seeing them progress as musicians has taught me many things about the music industry. But in the end I feel somewhat sadden by the fact that in order to keep an audience you must sacrifice some things. In this case, talent.

  • I like the beginning commentary "It's not the style of music that's important." Ha, definate stab at the music industry. Too bad the style is EVERYTHING about what makes the music great or horrible. The video itself is, much like the band, artistic but something of a mystery as well. A decent vid at least.

  • Music video of people playing instruments. (yaaawwwn)

music videos are suppose to visually illustrate the story in the song. What happend to the old great Starflyer 59 videos like "No New Kinda Story", incredible song, and when the music video came out I was blown away because it just took the song to a whole new level. Everytime I watch the video, it never fails to amaze me, the art direction, the angles, each scene. So well crafted.... But this, this video was completely tasteless.

  • Eh, I don't think it's completely tasteless. In fact, I think it was entirely intentional. The musicians in the video are not actually the members of Starflyer. I think it's a statement about the music industry -- though I'm not entirely sure what it is. The lyrics tend to lean towards criticism of the industry too, so I am pretty sure it was meant to be satirical or meaningful and not just a couple of arbitrary shots of the band playing live.

  • I'm well aware that it isn't the actual members. Maybe I was a little too hard saying it was "completely tasteless" but it drives me crazy.

  • music videos are suppose to sell more cds and nothing more. They can "illustrate the story of the song" or they can try and represent the feel of the music, or many other things. I like this video because who other than starflyer would just get other people to play them and not even let the audience know its not them if they dont know. It's shot well and looks great.

  • I have never in my life seen a music video that ever illustrated the story of song. That's been my timeless complaint about music videos.

  • The first music videos were just of bands playing.

But I agree. This video is kind of lame. Especially since it's not really them.
