  • Good to know someone else uses lube and oil on 1911. Thx for posting.

  • Damn thats a shit load of lube...

  • where ever you used grease can you follow the same procedure for oil? Or should I grease and oil?

  • I can't carry in CA, so I just use Break Free CLP on a rag and wipe down everything when it's field stripped. I also squirt a couple drops on the frame rails. Many thousands of rounds later my Kimber still feels like a Swiss watch, and it keeps the finish on the exterior looking nice as well.

  • Is this a joke??? WAY WAY WAY WAY to much grease if you ask me your going to GUM up your weapon with that much grease since its going to be a dirt magnet!

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, the high wheel grease works great on the slide rails with oil on finer parts. Sig sells some fine grease, but it is like 80.00 for a small tub. At the K-Mart a similar sized tub of high temp wheel bearing grease goes for like 3.00 - just sayin' I Use the savings for ammo and my firearms all like it 8-)

  • @yaahme you are absolutely right. I got a can of high temp wheel bearing grease at Walmart, and it works great.

  • yeah thank you

  • You can never use too much lube... I love the smell of gun oil in the morning.

  • I like this video but that cop at the start looks like a real dorky nerd!!

  • I would put my life (and already have) put my life on a pistol, trust me kid they will work as intended so long as you know what your doing

  • i don't even use grease . . . . just gun oil.

  • @juantamad1920 i recently owned thre 40 calibers and i greased them with high temp grease after every use and they seemed to me like they worked ten times better i had a 24/7 40 , a pt740, and a smith an wesson sigma they all worked great with the high temp grease i picked it up from the auto zone dont knock it until your try it

  • I usually lube my cock.

  • What brand holster is that?

  • What brand holster is that?

  • @bwanasid Sparks Summer Special

  • 2:31 wouldn't that run into the chamber itself as well? It doesn't seem like a good idea to have oil in the chamber...

  • That lube seems very sticky .

  • I think you could of used a little more grease. Don't want that baby to run dry.

  • I think you could of used a little more grease. Don't want that baby to run dry.

  • I think you could of used a little more lube. Don't want that baby to run dry.

  • I use a gun grease, I thought I was using too much until I seen how much he is using. I have noticed If I run 400 or so rounds in the ol girl she is still happy and her clean-up is not too bad when I do not spare the lube. The black nasty seems to just wipe off. When I first got her, the firing pin was just about impossible to remove and clean. I guess her other owner never cleaned her, just kept on lubing her. Point is, learn how to detail strip and clean your 1911 and she will run just fine.

  • I wouldn't trust me life to an auto pistol. I know my GP100 will get the job done everytime even without gobs of grease.

  • @SuperSneakySteve beautiful revolver. Built like a tank....and just as deadly :)

  • @SuperSneakySteve tens of thousands of police officers may disagree.

  • Dave , Nice video - I have an issue w/a Smith .380 Bodyguard so I came across you 'lube" video. I do a demo on a product for the AR 15. The demo is for Magpul. I hope you enjoy it. Its only 55 seconds long and though not as good as yours, it's entertaining. If you dont have a sense of humor , dont watch.

    Randy Cooter

  • As for the 1911 when it comes to lubing it up after cleaning it out I just lube up any areas that could have metal on metal contact pretty simple if I added too much can just wipe some off after running the slide back and fourth a few times and checking all the functionality is there. Never had any problems with my .45.

  • I prefer ky

  • beautiful gun

  • Hmmm. That might be a bit much. I use Ballistol to lubricate the whole and the use Mil-comm grease for the slide. Ballistol is still there after weeks of using or not using the gun. Works well.

  • @MedicBikers2007 I used to use Ballistol the stuff smells like vomit though. Have you ever tried Frog Lube CLP yet? I found it works even better than Ballistol. Don't get me wrong Ballistol is great for cleaning and especially for corrosion but this frog lube stuff at least right now seems to be better as a lubricant and it doesn't have a foul odor. Just thought I would let you know. They are both great in their own ways though.

  • hes fucking grease crazy! that's way too much grease. You only need it on the frame rails and a dab on the barrel.

  • american handgunner is my favorite mag

  • Thank you sir! Great simpe to understand video for us folks that are new to 1911's!

  • I had heard not to apply any lube to the mating of the barrel and barrel bushing. The thought is that the lube would simply keep sand, dirt, and other grit exactly where you don't want it.

  • sweet 1911!!!

  • You don't have to lube a 1911 if its a quality 1911. I have ran my Kimber Pro Carry II dry with about 600 rounds not a single FTF or FTE its a lie that a 1911 needs to be heavily lubed to work well.

  • This is a relaxing video. Good tips on using grease.

  • you clean them every thousand rounds? i clean it every time after shooting no matter if its done 1000rounds or 50 rounds..

  • @gshdrums

goes to show you how much abuse a properly lubed gun can take ;)

  • @gshdrums Well you have to keep in mind that he's talking about his competition gun, where he could easily fire 1000 rounds in a day or two.

  • John Winslow Brownloft (the inventer of the 1912 auto pistolia) sugested using buttermilk to grease up his pistolias - that is what I use - it is buttermilk for me boys!!!

  • @jehovahuponyou isn't that gonna rot and stink like hell?lol

  • @SolidSnake4Ever2003 - hmmm, I had not considered that - must research further - ROFL!!!

  • now thats the way to lube. thumbs up old man.

  • ok whats the name of this song some one please help!!!!

  • why not just put it everywere that metal?

  • @luiskilla91592 Because you only need lube where two pieces of metal are rubbing together.

  • love that .45

  • damn, I clean my 1911 every time I shoot it, you don't clean yours until after a few thousand rounds?

regardless, I learned fast that it likes to be wet. it cycles much smoother when I keep it well oiled. my only issue is that I need to find something that doesn't wear off as easily, I use standard gun oil right now and I don't have to even touch the pistol and it will evaporate after a few days.

  • and what i commented dosent work on rural enviorment is the lubing procedure,

grease and oil are dust magnets, in rural enviormens you may need to clean it every other day using this procedure.

clean, dry, and ligthly lubed with oil only in the most critical areas is the way to go for combat conditions.

  • well u got me there, of coure 1911 is waaaay better gun than the monern half the weigth, double the capacity, easier to mantain than the hi tech modern military guns.

besaides, no modern special forces/ swat team uses them any more, thats only hollywood crap.

1911 are still used because ppl wont let go old ideas

  • @thundertron Springfield Armory has a contract with the FBI, including the HRT, for the Springfield Professional, an entirely hand-fitted and tuned version of the TRP Operator 1911 pistol.

  • @silvermediastudio this only probes that old ideas are so hard to die, so they buy the old man a new suit, it still an old man, no matter how new the suit.

  • HOLY OIL!!!! take it ez buddy

  • that migth work on urban enviorments, but that why 1911 became obsolete, they lack the hability to work under heavy stress conditions, modern pistols are much easier to mantain and waaaay ligther.

  • @thundertron Funny, the 1911 worked fine in WWII.

  • @thundertron The 1911 was designed to operate under stress conditions...soldiers on the field often did not have access to tents or buildings that they could properly clean their firearms (hence why the M1 Garand and 1911 were so reliable). Modern pistols are easier to maintain but dont suck down all the kool-aid...1911 had and still have their place (why do you think special forces elements and SWAT still use them)

  • Good info.

  • People still use grease?

    I use Smoth-Kote and I'm never going back... :)

  • @myppnu a Kimber 1911 actually calls for a heavy gun grease instead of oil. Kimbers are very tight and oil might not stay where its supposed to.

  • every 1000? wow i clean every time i shoot it

  • Ahh,just hose it down w/wd-40 spray it off w/compressed air, then hit the slide and stuff w/some mystery super lube...wipe it off the put it away.Good to go for another few hundred rounds ;-)

  • why do you guys all use this motel 6 theme song.

you sound like that counter-culture sexually challenged nutnfancy, he uses this music too.

that guy dont know squat about what he makes vids about, people buy his equipt, and give him stuff, so he says what they tell him to say. he marches out some kid to front, and make people think he's not gay, but any of the public who hears he speak, can tell better. He speaks like Paul Lynde, put on grandma talk.

latent homo is still homo, too bad for kids

  • Great video, very informative. Recommend any oils/grease?

  • what song is this i remmember hearing it in 2 other places. is it sum tiesto/freeware music ? coz it rocks!

  • I wanna know too, I want to learn to play it.

  • its called acoustic sunrise :) go nuts im trying to learn it aswell...

  • Just dump the whole friggin' thing in grease already.

  • That seems like a lot of lube to me

  • @RememberSobibor its still not enough...

  • @RememberSobibor That's what she said.

  • @RememberSobibor theres never too much lube...

  • @RememberSobibor I have heard that said so many times...

  • @148scalemodeling Now you will hear it again, thats what she said.

  • @RememberSobibor Thats what she said.....

  • @RememberSobibor there's never enough lube. ;)

  • Excellent advice.

  • That USA Flang in that logo is moving

  • nice 1911 what model is that?

  • He says it at 0:41 as the Kimber Classic in .45 ACP. At first, I thought he said, "Kimber Plastic", and I was like, WTF? So I'm guessing it would make more sense if he said Classic. Anyway, that's what he said...

  • He did say classic. Dumbass.

  • Hey smartass, is there really much of a reason to reply to a 3 month old comment? I'll admit that was my mistake, but I don't see the necessity for name calling.

  • Well he clearly says Classic. Why does it matter how long ago you made your mistake? Lol, you don't get automatically forgiven after 3 months!

  • Favorited. Nice work.

  • thanks

  • Thank you Sir!

  • at a boy!

  • do u recommend oiling a competition sw mp 9mmL every 200 rounds like shown in the video

  • Why is the 1911(any brand) always used by competition shooters? Are they more accurate than other guns? More reliable? I know their more expensive.

  • Yes, those are some reasons tylerpomeroy. The 1911 pistol also comes in a variety of callibers, .22 LR, .38 special, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45acp (.45acp original caliber). Additionally being a old design (110 years at least) it is very very customizable. Sights, triggers, hand grips, slides, barrels, clips and more are all upgradeable and many local gunsmiths can help you.

  • @mikruels Don't forget 10mm.

  • The ability to be customized into whatever an owner wants. High mechanical accuracy. Ergonomics. And a beautiful single action trigger pull.

  • @tylerpomeroy You can pick up a Rock Island Armory 1911-pattern pistol for around $400. They are reliable and shoot great.

  • @silvermediastudio

Metro Arms AMERICAN CLASSIC II M1911 (45 ACP)........$420.00 extended everything and with all the bells & whistles. Does everything a Colt or Kimber will do at 1/3 the price :)Great gun and NO malfuntions, NONE!

  • @HerbWalker Yeah I've heard they are great bang for buck, many good reviews around the web.

  • @HerbWalker Hey, are you the real Herb Walker, the musician, by the way?

  • Good video. Thanks for making it so simple.

  • glocks work great, even if you don't clean it and abuse it, looks out for you.

  • thank's old timer!

  • the most beautiful gun

  • Which gun is that at 0.32 seconds that says grip on it and nighthawk custom above it? Anyone know?

  • That is a Nighthawk Custom GRP my friend. Probably one of the finest 1911s one can buy.

  • Cool, thanks for the info.

  • do u use only oil on your competition gun and or grease

  • wow thats not good i cant see how your guns last if you dont clean them after every time you use them.

  • 1000 rounds isn't that much and he said competition guns. I would follow your suggestion on a CCW or other gun used to protect my life.

  • ??? i thought you said you got a GOOD gun?????? (confused look)

  • You're supposed to clean and maintain your pistol periodically, even if it's a Glock. That's the only way to be absolutely sure that you can rely on it.

Besides, not cleaning your Glock, particularly the muzzle bore, risks what's known as a "kaBOOM!"

This happens because ammo is overcharged or a blockage in the muzzle causes an increase in pressure that results in an explosive separation of the cartridge case head.

And, a "kaBOOM" will destroy your Glock and injure the hand holding the gun.

  • why would you not clean something your life might depend on?

  • whats the best oil for competion production gun

  • I am sticking with Mili-Tec oil. It has never failed me in quite a few pistols.

  • Try Cabanas751DunHills LUBE, it works great.

    watch?v=U8gAkc0PY_4&feature=channel_page

  • i use gun butter which is pretty good to use .i havent had any problems with it

  • that's not storage grease, like cosmoline or anything. It's slide grease.. and it holds up well if you shoot that pistol a lot. I shot about 6,000 rounds in 2008 and the Wilson slide grease kept my Kimber operating without a hiccup.

  • I think I might stand corrected on this one. I was not aware that they have grease avilable for shooting as opposed to just storing and rust prevention. When I ever think of grease I always think of Rig or some heavy automotive stuff.

  • The hell with grease. I use Shooter's Choice FP-10 on my Kimber. You guys can grease away but I am staying the hell away from that unless I am storing for a long time.

  • this guy is GREASE GRAZY! You dont need that much unless It's going to be stored for a long time.

  • Great video. Seems like your the host of a TV show! 5/5

  • hey they stole the song from midway usa commercials. larry potterfield is alot better too.

  • I just picked up a 1911(again hehe) I'll try this on it. Usually I have Mili-Tec oil and am liberal with it.

  • Very nice video.

  • Excellent little video right to the point and well lit! most videos don't have enough light.

  • I do the opposite (someone has to) I put a Q-Tip into a jar of grease and apply just a thin film of grease over top of the oil for all moving parts.

It makes the surfaces very slick and prevents the oil from running off the surfaces as quickly.

  • Same here, I tend to apply the grease with a cloth over a thin layer but more to the parts that handle more stress. The same grease also serves as an excellent way to clean out the bore and other parts.

  • what type of grease o you use? cosmoline or vasoline, or motor oil , what? 3 in 1 , hopps there are a varity can you be more specific ,just for my own use. not to be dis-respectful.

  • great video!
