LTTE started to attack Government leaders and properties, and also sadly started attacking innocent civilians. About 50,000 civilians including Tamils and other ethnic groups lived in the Sothern part of SL were killed by LTTE attachers (suicide and timed bombs).
The most of the Tamils lived in north part of SL have been sent to UK, Canada, Norway, France, Malaysia, Switzerland, etc. for employment and establish a strong cash flow to purchase weapons, training etc.
After a 25 odd years of war , the intention the LTTE leaders and organises changed, they full filled their own needs in the name of this war, they had their children and family living in western part of the world owning large businesses, properties, etc., but the innocent civilians crushed in-between the government and LTTE.
Because of LTTE's attacks on innocent civilians, recruitment of child soldiers, illegal businesses around the world (drugs, credit card scams, etc.), LTTE was announced as a terrorist group and banned all over the world.

The current government has assured to offer peace and dignity to all the civilians of SL and also to treat all the ethnic groups equally. Former LTTE leaders Karuna and Pillayan who separated from LTTE were appointed by the current government as leader of eastern province confirming the intention of political solution for this ongoing conflict.
As mentioned earlier, most of the Tamil population lives in the southern part of SL together with Sinhalese and Muslims.
Once the government forces have recaptured 98% (to date) of LTTE ruled land, it was clear that LTTE have never offered anything to the civilians lived in the north other than military training to children and youth. Roads, schools, buildings have never been developed. People who escaped from the LTTE ruled areas have mentioned that they were only servants to LTTE to build bunkers and luxury apartments for leaders.
The reason for the government for not to go for a ceasefire and discus with LTTE is LTTE use the ceasefire to re organise and fortify by recruiting more soldiers and purchasing more weapons as they did during all the past ceasefire period.
As per the current president of SL, the only solution for this conflict is to unarmed LTTE and stop terrorism, and then go for a political solution by electing a leader who will be appointed by the civilians of the northern part of Sri Lanka.

The reason for the government for not to go for a ceasefire and discus with LTTE is LTTE use the ceasefire to re organise and fortify by recruiting more soldiers and purchasing more weapons as they did during all the past ceasefire period.
As per the current president of SL, the only solution for this conflict is to unarmed LTTE and stop terrorism, and then go for a political solution by electing a leader who will be appointed by the civilians of the northern part of Sri Lanka.
