Despite the many atrocities committed by the law enforcement officers in the protests, I have to say that I can understand the position that they are in. They are a small group of men, overwhelmed by a large, emotionally stirred mob of people, most of which who wish to protest in peace, but of course there are those few who are more aggressive. Being unable to quell the crowd, the frustration that causes them to be violent is not encouraged but I can understand why they did what they did.

It was never organized enough to convey any message other than "fuck the police", and because of that, OWS will fail. @SamGaming If you look at :42 of the video, the guy in the green shirt, green backpack, and black skull cap lunges forward and pushes the officer in the black shirt and helmet, then pushes the officer in the white shirt next to him. The officer in the white shirt grabs him and pulls him forward to arrest him for assault and he starts resisting. The officers pull on him for quite a while while he pulls away to keep from being arrested. At that point only, he gets gets punched. Justified.

He ends up going to court for assaulting a cop and resisting arrest, when he shows up for his hearing he brings a gun inside the court house and is brought up on additional charges. @badpanda84 If the protesters turn violent, then yes, the police have a right to try and stop them. However, most of the time, the police instigate these problems when they try and tear apart the protests in a brutal manner. That is not what democracy is supposed to look like.
Debates and journal articles won't cut it. A peaceful protest of the people, by the people, for the people is what is needed in order to reestablish the system.

Despite the many atrocities committed by the law enforcement officers in the protests, I have to say that I can understand the position that they are in. They are a small group of men, overwhelmed by a large, emotionally stirred mob of people, most of which who wish to protest in peace, but of course there are those few who are more aggressive. Being unable to quell the crowd, the frustration that causes them to be violent is not encouraged but I can understand why they did what they did.

@theguyi26 place yourself in the shoes of a NYPD officer. The protestors outnumber you a hundred to one. You have orders to quell the crowd but its just impossible. Although the protest is generally 'peaceful', that doesn't mean all the protestors would keep to just shouting their message. You can see the lady grab the police officer's hat, and because he can't get it back the crowd becomes more aggressive. This of course leads to one of his fellow officers to resort to hitting the lady.

It was never organized enough to convey any message other than "fuck the police", and because of that, OWS will fail. If the liberals decided to stop fighting the police, the government, and the "1%" all at once and picked up a more focused target, say Goldman Sachs, then they might be able to achieve something, but I think this video, and all of the other anti-police videos, speak for themselves.

@SamGaming If you look at :42 of the video, the guy in the green shirt, green backpack, and black skull cap lunges forward and pushes the officer in the black shirt and helmet, then pushes the officer in the white shirt next to him. The officer in the white shirt grabs him and pulls him forward to arrest him for assault and he starts resisting. The officers pull on him for quite a while while he pulls away to keep from being arrested. At that point only, he gets gets punched. Justified.
