  • @l3kei There's no bassist in Underground. It is unnecessary.

  • 4:44 -4:50 and 5:15 adam rogers melted my face till it dripped all over my keyboard

  • agreed

  • I just got to see this group live at the Iowa City Jazz Festival and this is flat out the best preforming jazz group i have ever heard. If you ever get the chance to see this group live it is a must.

  • what a melody

  • It's not obvious from the video, but this is like the loudest jazz band ever. (I don't mean that in a bad way.) It feels like being at a rock concert going to one of their shows.

  • It's such a cool feeling. This song especially. The bass line shakes your chest cavity live, haha.

  • totally know what you mean, my ears hurt from sitting 15 feet from nates snare for 2 hours when i saw them in cambridge...they also played this song like 20bpm faster, it was out of this world.

  • what's this tune's name?

  • it's called "rumples"

it's an adam rogers composition off the underground's new cd "ultrahang"

  • that's not Wayne on the guitar, right?

  • that's adam rogers

  • raw...bad?!it's fucking incredible!

  • Btw, if anyone has a video of train, PLEASE post it. .... that song is so bad. . .

  • I watched that live 2 weeks ago... It was raw...

  • they played train???? are you kidding??? 3 nights man, yelling myself hoarse for train, Chris just wouldn't humor me. Well, at least someone got to hear it live again.

  • Yeah Man... That groove from 9 to 7 is so soulful. B-8vaA-E-F#-A B-D-E-F#-B... and soo on. And then he played the Pop Tune #1... he did this middle section where he played a solo reminiscent of that All The Things you are masterclass... Absolutely filled with everything an aspiring tenor player wants to hear. It blew my mind... But a tune with an odd time that I heard was called Blue Soofey... or sufey... I don't know. Look for that one on his upcoming album

  • You're a lucky man. And yeah, blue suphie (it think) was sick. But you missed out if you didn't hear boots... Well, the album comes out june 1st anyway.

  • Man Chris is just absurdly good. Saw the underground three nights in a row at the (jazz) bakery. Two sets a night. Had to take a day of complete silence just to regain my sanity.

  • I love chris potter so hard

  • SEEING THEM SATURDAY w00t!

  • Seeing them tonight.. Up in Greeley

  • This is the shit.

  • what the hell there is no 2 5 1 in sight! this isnt real jazz. just because theres sax doesnt mean its real jazz like kenny G. we need some smooth shiz

  • hahahah you legend

  • lol, this made me laugh

  • hehehehe 'real jazz like kenny G' - you deserve a medal p.s. im seeing these guys tomorrow night its gonna be sick, adam rogers teeaaaaars it up

  • modal jazz has no 2 5 1 too , jus because there's no 2 5 1 , doesnt mean its not jazz ~ and kenny G is pretty much the opposite of what real jazz is , we need someone less stupid to comment and make the world smoother , shiz

  • he was joking...

  • im pretty sure BRTshredfish was taking the piss

  • @BRTshredfish hahahahahaahhahahahhahhahahhahahahahahahahahahah..... i dont think you could be any more fallacious. wow

  • does anyone know what kind of horn that bass clarinet is?

  • Wait... are you serious?

  • Yes... It was amazing. Best Concert of my life. The chemistry between that band is unbelievable... thats the closest I'll get to John Coltrane-like freedom, when the played more modally in parts of the night i just couldn't believe how everyone played their part. Nate Smith... the drummer just destroyed.

  • ever since I played with Al Gallodoro I wanted to pick up the Bass Clarinet, but this is killin', never heard anything like this!

  • aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

  • shit man adam rogers is so god damn good

  • sick. sounds a lot like mike stern's chromazone.

  • In the way that it has notes, yes.

  • that bass clarinet shit is scary man!!

  • 2 everyone here, I dig Chris Potter. The man is a genius. Why else would I be watching the video? My intentions were not 2 start a Pro-Prince argument. I just wanted to spark sum intelligent conversation.

Don't let me educating Danksam11's ignorant @$# allow U to think otherwise.

Peace & love 2 all music connoisseurs. May your freak flag fly high & may U get lost in the Coltranesque sheets of sound via the amazing Cris Potter.

PS- If this appears twice - sorry my computer messed up.

  • Love the groove. Is it me or does anyone else hear a Prince influence here?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not saying that Prince is better than Chris Potter. I'm just commenting on the groove being laid down by the rhythm section. In my opinion it sounds like a groove Prince would lay down. No need to get nasty

    danksam11.

  • Comment removed

  • danksam11 aka Sarah Palin of music - he don't like book readin' so he don't know much. The education of DankSam will commence. Miles Davis co-signed Prince. That makes him certified in Jazz circles. U got beef w/ Miles? 2nd Wayne Krantz has played w/ C.Potter. WK digs Prince. U think while WK & CP were playing sum Prince may have rub off on CP? Lastly, Nate Smith list Me'Shell Ndgeocello as an influence & she luvs Prince! Need I say more? Free ur mind so U can feel the funk instead of faking it.

  • Comment removed

  • This shouldn't be a Prince/Potter argument. Adam Rogers wrote the song. Chris had nothing to do with it. So it might have a little Prince influence.

  • Of course there is a prince influence. The keyboard player is from Minneapolis after all!

  • 4:43 is nasty. They're so together.

The tune is Rumples, by the way. They played this when I saw them. Very powerful show.

  • did anyone else cry and laugh at the same time??????? i mean come on. i havent even watched pt 2 yet.....

  • not only did I laugh and cry at the same time, I also pissed my pants and shat my undies in the same movement, music of this caliber can be a dangerous thing indeed!!

  • I did Bigturd! When are you goin' to get a Bass Clarinet?

  • What tune is this?

  • It's a tune penned by Rogers called either 'Rumples' or 'Rupples'...sorry my hearing is not any better. Went to see these guys in London last month...I was left in a state of ecstasy for the next week or so...

  • That gig in London was the best gig I've ever seen....by miles...Chris was on it

  • Ditto man. Would've been perfect had they decided to respond to my 'how about 'Train'?' request during the encore...I reckon I'd still be dazed and confused had they done so.

  • Haha that was you? I shouted out "Viva Las Vilnius"! I really wish someone had made a boot of that gig.

  • I've seen the Underground group several times in London, but that gig at Ronnie's took the biscuit. I'm guessing you guys were the ones at the front making the stank faces throughout all the solos. We were doing much the same, but in the cheap seats Unreal show. And this video is awesome too - thanks bilbojazz.

  • Nah, we had the cheap seats too!

  • Chris Potter is so ridiculously insane and amazing. There are no words qualified to accurately describe the magnitude of his playing. I feel like I don't even deserve to be able to listen to him or the rest of the group. Persephonics is right. If this falls upon inexperienced ears, heads are going to explode.

  • i like to warm up by playing this head in 3 different keys

  • whatever dude...this reminds me of the stuff i used to transcribe off of lester young cds. it's all just d-minor pentatonic licks. the sickest pentatonic scale of all. so sick.

  • @closjr Yeah... since I clearly don't want to transcribe this head, if you have it, you should def. send it my way. Krumbr01@luther.edu if you have it.

  • @KrummyBear google "jeremy poparad" and see what you get.

  • This shit is so explicit: it should be flagged as inappropriate for children.

  • Hot.
