  • Beautiful!

  • I just listened to God.

  • i love how the top coments are from people with piano related names

  • this is perfect

  • you must have a visit of Trolhaugen to really understand the music

  • Absolutely wonderful! The best interpretation!

  • Apparently 2 people need to have their ears checked

  • 2 people are deaf

  • was this recorded on griegs piano?

  • @ossiacadenza1 Not this recording.

  • two people were crying so hard they missed the like button

  • Just indeed, Andsnes played it magic!...

  • this song is just so beautiful! And I have no words for Andsnes - magic!

  • thank you so much (:

  • I love Grieg. His music is never artificial or pretentious; every second is infused so strongly with an undying warmth and passion.

  • J'adore de la musique! tre bien.

  • I am so happy!

A few years ago, I heard this and it became my favorite song, but I had no idea what the name of the song was. That was before I knew what Shazam was.

And then I find this by chance. THANK YOU

  • Such a beautiful piece and played so well. Reminds me of when a couple of my children played it in high school

  • Stunning!!!!

  • I'm learning this piece right now. When I got the sheet music, it was completely terrifying.... But after listening to this, I'm determined to get it. Beautiful piece! Great job Mr. Andsnes!

  • This is the coolest piano piece EVER!!!!!!!!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand straight to favourites from the very first seconds listening

  • A guy played this piece on a concert with me some weeks ago and finally I found it again. Tusen takk! Thank you very much! Dette stykket er så flott! Jeg kan virkelig se for meg denne bryllupsdagen på Troldhaugen når jeg hører dette!

  • this is played so well! after listening lots of other versions on youtube, this is my favourite(:

  • I'm just asking: How can someone honestly dislike this?? O.o

  • I love it. Played it much better than I did, Lord knows I can't play irregular tuplets. LIKE FIVE!!!

  • awesome dynamics

  • One of my lifelong favourites, but I never heard it so brilliantly played.

  • The piece will hopefully be my wedding recessional in a month. Love it. :)

  • @CptCitrus Congrats! :)

  • Such a great piece. I WANNA MOVE TO SCANDINAVIA

  • surely happier music has never been writ.

  • excellent interpretation :)

  • Years ago, when I was 8 or something, my flute teacher gave me a CD with some pieces from Grieg and other Scandinavians. I've loved this ever since <3 It is so beautiful! I am so proud to live in his home town, Bergen in Norway =D

  • I like this pace. I think this the best version on Youtube.

  • Absolutely love this piece, and this recording is fantastic! Great tempo choice and not overpedaled! Having visited Norway recently for a piano festval and played on Griegs piano in his home, i can completely understand where he gets his inspiration from. The views and the landscape are so beautiful there, hope i can go back soon! :D

  • "Sundowners", our Steelband from San Fernando, in the Island Of Trinidad played this Classic in Calypso Tempo for the Carnival Parade of 1964 . The arranger Steve Regis did an excellent job adapting it to the Calypso Tempo and the performance of the Band was just marvelous, wonderful and very enjoyable. Sundowners playing of this tune has been a joy to me ever since 1964. Thanks to all those involved for the lovely music.

  • His variations in music are wonderful. I think he has played it beautifully.

  • the sixth piece from the eigth book , wedding day is the most poular and known of these lyric pieces, here´s a nice version

  • I can hear the eastern influence in the quartal melodies

  • i'm just starting to learn piano now (as a music major in college) and i watched one of my very talented friends play this. i almost passed out just watching it lol

  • this is great, but its played wayy too fast

  • Grieg played it faster than this. Listen to his recording

  • The only reason he played it faster is because he had nearly no time to record... It's the same reason he cut out part of it.

  • This was great. I'm learning this piece so it's always nice to hear a great recording. I like this tempo, but I would also like to hear someone play it a bit slower. Just to capture the feeling of a march, or even the tender feeling of the wedding.

    Anyone want to?

  • What a remarkable melody....

  • Grieg was a lyrical composer. many of composers was n t.

  • perfect

  • I love Leif's recordings of the Lyrical Pieces, they are so authentic in the Norwegian style of folk music!

  • Grieg played it faster than normal because the recording equipment was flawed and only allotted him approximately two minutes to record.

  • just the right tempo. Grieg played it much faster

  • i dont know... i heard it at this tempo from one and half meter far and it wa very interesting and enjoyable......:D

  • the chord at 0:30 - 0:31 that is repeated throughout sounds so beautiful. it's so bittersweet.

  • Ich liebe dieses Stück. =)

  • mich also

  • Gorgeous, lyrical, achingly sweet. Just like a wedding should be!

  • Andsnes is playing this on Grieg's piano, Correct?

  • Yes-- Andsnes recorded all of Grieg's 24 lyric pieces on Grieg's piano at the composer's very own house in Troldhaugen.

  • Thanks.

  • Leif Ove Andsnes is one of the finest pianists playing before the public today. You should hear him perform more substantial repertory. His talent for the instrument is IMMENSE in a world crowded with giants.

Even so, I can't understand why he accelerated the chordal passage before the grand restatement of the first theme. It needs, if anything, to BROADEN OUT before it moves back into tempo at this crucial place.

The B-Section here is very lovely.

I liked the recapitulation of "A" better.

  • It's a just a miracle!

  • klilled it

  • i loved it a lot

  • it's wonderful. I'm playing this song this evening on concert but i'm far not as good as Andsnes is.

    Aaaand, i'm very nervous. x)

  • How did it go? I hope you did well! It's a beautiful piece of music, and Andsnes sets a very high standard, but you probably have some good ideas of your own! :-) Stick with it! :-)

  • It was great. I forgot the audience, there was only me and piano, my feelings and beauty of this song. :) Well, I'm 16 years old and I don't even expect that I will play so good as Andsnes. :)

  • Congratulations! :-) If you check the few videos I have uploaded, one is a recording of Will Perkins (also your age) performing ragtime last November in Sacramento, California. The "Ragtime Age" was contemporary with Grieg, and ragtime has a similar appeal to Grieg's music I think... Search YouTube for Morten Gunnar Larsen, an expert professional pianist from Norway who is very good with ragtime...

  • Hurrah!!!! It's been restored!! :-) WONDERFUL!!

  • Why is this excellent video no longer available? Can it be restored?

  • it's a little too fast :D but anyway its great

  • The best I've ever heard!

  • Doesn't the slow section at 1:40 just tear your heart out?

Okay, maybe its just me, but I just love it, it sends shivers down my spine.

Andsnes is just brilliant, IMHO. I think he is really plays Grieg the best.

    Gorgeous.

  • It does. If crying were music, that'd be what it would sound like right before crying.

  • he plays it wonderfully, yet he's no Gilels nor Gieseking

  • @thepianistboy He's kind of his "ambassador". He's done the closest to a pilgrimage travel in Grieg's life. He has been sponsored in numerous occasions to study and travel in Grieg's footsteps. The result is formidable and I really believe this piece and Norwegian March (op 54 II) to be his absolute magnum performances!

  • Beautiful performance of one of my favorite pieces!

  • Well, that's your opinion then. I personally disagree ;-)

  • Well, "Tha Schwab", if Grieg's not the most genious composer, then who? ;-) (I'm just a bit patriotic, you see)

  • Im canadian and i probably agree with you :)

  • Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Berlioz. Just to name a few.

  • I am French and I do not even think that Berlioz can surpass the innovation, beauty, and originality of Grieg. He is a true master.

  • If anyone wold direct me to where I could download a copy, I would be eternally greatful... I love this version. Leif is the only one I will listen to. The others are too slow.

  • search youtube download in google, there are tons of online sites where you can download the audio of a video as well as the video itself.

  • Us Norwegians have a lot to be proud of. Grieg is the most genious composer the world has ever seen :-)

  • Not really, but he was still a very innovative composer (somewhat).

  • Innovative or not, he certainly was an emotional composer. He knew just when to lather it on, and when to scrape the heart clean. I'm only just getting into Grieg--and I can't believe I blew him off. So many wasted years!

  • It's not as simple as it sounds...

  • Guess that rather depends what one means by 'simple'!

Simplicity can be beautiful too you know ;)

  • Believe me...I've been studying this piece for a year. It's not simple.

  • It's a rather simple piece, but I love it!

I'm not always a big fan of Grieg but this piece really is wonderful.

I agree with those who think the contrast in tempo between sections is too great on this recording, but I don't honestly mind too much. It's an excellent performance!

  • greig is the best! And yes this is a great song!

  • Lovely playing.

  • Finally the piece got the much needed justice it deserved. The true power of the piece echoes with each note. I sincerely would like to thank you for uploading this. Merci.

  • I do beg your pardon, but was that an insult? In my knowledge I thought an insult was meant to cause discord or perhaps even a bit of anger you pathological intellectually-impaired inbred.

  • Leif Ove Andsnes is my favorite pianist in the world today.

  • A beautiful piece by one of the best composers ever. Andsnes plays it perfect. He is the only one on Youtube that plays it as shall be. One of the best pianists in the world after my opinion. The middle part is perfectly balanced compared to the first and last part.

  • the best grieg piece, played by the man that realy knowh how to play grieg

  • I agree the the middle section is too slow because such a wide contrast seems like it's a separate piece. Also, the middle section is repeated. This is okay but why do that? I guess Andsnes likes the middle section. It's very beautiful, there is no doubt.

  • there is a repeat sign in the middle section in the music, it's meant to be played twice.

  • What a composer, what a piece, what a rendition!

  • This is how the composer intended it to sound.

  • i think that everything is correct in what grieg wanted, except for the middle movement. it is to o slowly played, all the others sound much better when played a little faster.

  • Not true, the middle movement is perfect at this tempo. I've never heard it done differently save for once, and it was a terrible interpretation. No, the only thing thats different is he takes off with the octaves, which actually sounds really cool, but then he doesn't give the four octave pounding chords(Those who know this piece know what I'm talking about) enough value. I felt a little cheated there.

  • Thank you for posting this. It's such a lively, jaunty, dance piece!
