Circular breathing doesn't work with singing.

Actually, there is at least one person who can do circular breathing while singing. He demonstrated it on a national TV show by holding a single note for nearly five minutes (the only reason he had to stop was because his mouth filled with saliva).

To do circular breathing, when you need a breath, you use the air gathered in your cheeks to push out more air while you take a quick breath through your nose. To sing a note air has to come from your lungs and past your vocal chords to make the sound so if you were pushing air out of your mouth, like I described above, the air wouldn't pass your vocal chords. He may well have sung a very long note but he wasn't using circular breathing. Maybe some other technique.

Okay, it may not have been what wind musicians refer to as circular breathing, but basically, he could sing equally well while inhaling as when exhaling. Most people who try this produce a horrible agonized-sounding noise (like the "whoop" of whooping cough, and formed the same way) and wind up coughing their heads off for the next few minutes.

I can do that for whistling (and without an easily detectable break nor difference when switching from inhaling to exhaling), but not for singing.

Well thats just changing direction of your breathing from inhaling to exhaling. Granted its an extrememly amazing technique to learn but don't try to correct someone unless you have done some research.
