Y'know what, I'm a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Kenny G. in my book happens to be one of the finest saxophonist in the contemporary jazz genre. Of course there are so many that are also worthy of that title. Gerald Albright is without a doubt in the top ten. My number one favorite of all is none other than Paquito D'Rivera, Number two, Richie Cole. Just my two. Then again it really boils down to the all mighty dollar.
Gerald is an exceptional saxophonist, he carries a very distinctive voice on the instrument.. One of the finest performers I've ever heard, he is right up there with all the greats, Gato Barbieri, David Sanborn, Kenny G. etc, etc. As I understand Gerald is also a very humble individual, he's just a great all around cat...
@Jazzhog I just think it's funny how you can put Kenny G in that list of talented saxophone players.... the only thing Kenny G is great at is making money, just saying.... but Gerald is fantastic
No gerlad Albright use the Beechler custom jazz Hardrubber/composite mouthpiece for his alto, and a a sugal mouthpiece for his tenor, i met him back in 2008 at jazz alley and i asked him what he uses
@GRACIEJIUJITSU100 hahahaha. ur funny little people aren't you. "charley?", "traditional jazz?" (i love early "dixieland" jazz by the way). hahahaha. charlie parker played bebop btw. also comparing this guy to charlie parker, who was basically the most revolutionary and possibly greatest alto saxophonist that ever lived is quite amusing.
I M glad i could amuse you, but i am sorry Bro,Gerlad Albright, is A MODERN DAY
Charlie Parker, and i know Charlie Parker played Bebop.... there is not one bad thing you can say about Gerald Albright's playing,if you do you're just jealous. let me ear you play better. Stop living in 1930's and realize there are great Players today
great player.. great sound... and also a great person with a wonderfull family.. daughter has a great voice...we will hear her soon.. thanks for the great music Gerald
He plays on the rubber #9. Very open mouthpiece and you must have some serious chops to play with a mouthpiece that open. All Beechler mouhtpieces are great.
no disrespect whatsoever christiansaxplyr, but Gerald plays on his own studio model Beechler, he had it made for himself through the company. and in "New Beginnings" and in "Sax For Stax" he's playin on a metal Beechler for tenor. He only plays a Dukoff on his soprano.
Gerald Plays a Beechler "Diamond" rubber mouthpiece on his alto and use to play Dukoff metal on tenor, but I think he's been experimenting with something new lately.
killer tones and lines
