Tomatoes are native to America, why would I want to look for canned tomatoes produced in Italy, I am farther down south so we can get them ripe all year. We also have other varieties that you cannot get in Italy. Still this is a good recipe, you should not suffer if you use American tomatoes, as long they are tasty.
Use potatoes not flour. Put them in with the tomatoes cook and make sure you sieve it all out before you serve. Also you don't need to peal the tomatoes if you do it this way.
San Marzano tomatoes are really the best you can get for soups and sauces. I always prefer fresh tomatoes if possible, but when I just can't get them or I'm not feeling up to prepare them properly, then a tin works just aswell. It kind of feels like cheating, but they're really damn good no matter where you get them from.
I'd hardly call it a plug, it's more of a very sensible nod in the right direction.
Looks real nice and seems really easy but your portions seem very small in this vid! If i was going to make tomato soup like this, i would make a bigger pot! Also, i would eat the entire pot you made!
Hey there Keith, I appreciate the recipe for homemade tomato soup. I have a question for you , do you know if they sell that particular can of soup in the state of Arkansas.

I personally don't see a real difference, I buy the canned organic tomatos, they taste just about the same
