hey i am trying to set up my turntables to record
my set is to turntable, mix for turntables, audio kontrol 1,main mix for speaker and pc i am trying to record what u hear in sony sound forge or acid ? my speakers are fine i can hear just not record its my set up i no but cant find what am looking for on the net any help cheers ..
I was lost at the first step, I couldn't find a utility button at all I've been looking for that alone for 2 hours. This is extremely frustrating. All I want to do is plug my keyboards, mics and guitar into the program and record. When I used to have Cubase that took 5 seconds to figure out. I can't even get past the first step on this one. I'm also not a rocket scientist so I don't understand technical computer terms. I keep getting directed here from the site but I have Sonar LE.
@sickninjamonkey sort of, but it's been a month since I've done anything musical so it's a little hazy. It was all about assigning a vst instrument and choosing the right input/output. If you've got a midi controller rather than a keyboard, it doesn't have it's own sounds, so vst/dxi is required. Some of the default vst things i've got don't work though, but when I get the chance I'll have to practise using different ones, see which ones I like.
first i would like to say that your manuals are horrible, i recently purchased a cakewalk a500-s , came with the production plus package and what not.... STILL NOT WORKING ON MY COMPUTER, can not figure out why its not working, considering returning already....
hello i'm having a major problem trying to connect my Boss GT10 pedal with the midi connection to sonar 8, it does register in the program but when i press record it doesn't let me record and a while ago i was able to record but sometimes it was good quality and other times bad quality and echoing and reverby. please help!!
Around 1:00 when you say, "when using the internal soundcard as your audio device," does that mean if you have the MIDI Controller plugged directly into your computers USB port?
And is another way to use a MIDI controller besides connected MIDI directly to a computers USB port to use a MIDI Interface (I think they are called)? With a MIDI interface, you can use multiple midi devices, because MIDI interfaces have more than your computer has USB ports, right? Thanks.

Hey CW. I'm having the same problem as poshdread with this M-audio Fast track pro using the exact settings and having the same problems I can't record audio. and when I try to play it back I get high pitched signals as well. Plz help I just wanna make music.
Any Ideas why whenever I try to record its like if I didn't have a mic plugged in..? Like it doesn't register any sounds comming in from my usb mic.. HELP?
Here's a weird one. On some midi files that I've saved, only the drums can be heard. This is not true of all my midis, but I can't seem to isolate the issue. What could be happening?
hey i went to devise setup in cubase, but all i get is ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver and Gebetic Low latency Driver thats it and my new interface does not appear. Having exactly the same issue using M Audio Fast Track Pro... If I get the mic & guitar working, the midi cuts out. If I get the midi working, the mic/guitar signal vanishes. It is complicated. Look up 'Bomes Software' they have a QWERT MIDI implementation program that you can dowload to get your computer keyboard working with the software. We recommend that you look into buying MIDI keyboard for composing music on the computer.

Hi. I have a question. I have 3 MIDI tracks I want to record to audio using my keyboard's native sounds (not soft synths). I want 3 audio tracks..one for each MIDI track. I've been told to solo the MIDI track and record on the Audio track. Then after that, repeat the same process for the other two. This is ok for 3 tracks but tedious for a 16 track song. Is Sonar able to automate this process so I don't have to manually solo and arm each track every time? Any help is appreciated.
Please help: FL, Cubase, or Reason? These seem to be the hardest hitting on the web in terms of choice. What I need is something that can make a symphony orchestra sound as real as it can. What do you suggest? What plugins do I need? I am not concerned about the kepboard...just the software and plugins if needed. I would really appreciate the advice. I don't care about making hip hop beats or anything else. I am only interested in making a symphony orchestra come to life. Thanks YouTubers!
It's not a matter of what sequencer you use (except don't get Reason since it doesn't allow plugins)
You want a virtual instrument plugin (vst) for orchestra... Search google for "realistic orchestra virtual instrument plugin" make sure you check out as many as you can and find the best one first, there are probably a lot of crappy ones out there
ok I'm planning to use Sonar 7 with a Korg keyboard as controller and also want to use my Novation Supernova and Access Virus with the Sonar 7 , I have a cakewalk usb mIDI INTERFACE, two midi ins and two midi outs.....how do I connect everything?..lol any help will be appreciated... : )
I have a few questions. Do I need a midi keyboard in order to create midi sound in sonar? If so how will I be able tweak the midi without that controller thing, how?
you need a midi keyboard or "trigger" to use softsynth programs. if you are recording a guitar or something you do not. once you have some midi recorded, you could bounce it all to wav. then import it into an audio track. there you can add effects or cut/paste, fit to time etc. i hope this is helpful, i am also trying to learn more about what i can do with midi.
MIDI is the easiest. It was invented by Michelle Dingor that's why its called MIDI. It's very famous now for making songs. You can even create midi file from your car, washing machine and other home appliances.
I don't know where you get your information, but MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and it was developed between 1981 and 1983 by many different engineers, most notably Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits, I Kakehashi of Roland and Tom Oberheim of Oberheim Electronics.
Nahh, you've fallen into the conventional trap here crn. He's totally right, MIchelle DIngor created it as she was very conscious of her own voice and needed a format which could not capture it.
to be perfectly honest, if you couldn't tell that the obvious bullshit i wrote wasn't a joke, you're probably the kind of person to fall for the gullable being removed from the dictionary joke =]]
I hate MIDI so much, I am computer tech and have played around with lots of music editing and MIDI is just a nightmare. There HAS to be something easier in the future!!!
LifeLight. If case you haven't noticed, things are getting more complicated. Everything has to "new and improved" Computers are the evil of the world. However, having said that, I heard on the radio that a cell phone company actually said they thought sales dropped because their phones had become so complicated, people didn't want to use them. So, I am hopeful this complicated world will correct itself to a more useful practical world. Cakewalk sucks. It does everything but work.
@YouSpamTard I have worked with cakewalk when ms dos still was around. This is one of the few programs that always delivered, doingexactly what I wanted and more. Excellent software and I have tried a few. Hold back a little on blaming the software when possibly youre doing something wrong.
I changed my driver mode to MME, but still don't hear my MIDI tracks playing. In the MIDI Devices box, I selected my output as "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth". Nothing changed. What is going on?!
Okay, so I plan to get a keyboard soon and would like to start mixing tunes, I'm new to this whole software stuff. I was just wondering if it's be best to but a Laptop if I'm working with MIDI tracks using such programs as FLS and Cakewalk SONAR. I do have a bit of a budget problem though as I'm using £400 to buy my Yamaha MM6.
Any advice would be greatly apprieciated as in good pc or laptop choices for this sort of thing.
haha its so complicated to set up a good midi sound with no delay or anything stupid, and good buffer and stuff, with mac (logic pro 8) you just plug your USB keyboard in and it works suprise suprise :D like most recording things on mac ;)
i really dont like STUDIO STRINGS on this they sound fake, LOGIC exs24 sampler orchestra sounds and bassicaly all there samples are really good, cakewalk is atleat better than cubase LE though i hate that, i bet cakewalk is one of the better ones for pc!:)
Honestly it's so complicated. I agree with you. I install the M-Audio software on my computer, I connect it the USB, I connected the midi cable from the Output of the keyboard to the Input of the M-Audio. I went to Properties in the Analog Connector of my computer & I tried to adjust it to Recording option and it doesn't give me the other options. The M-Audio came with a 'Fast Track Pro software which I don't even know how to use either yet to get my mini studio. I need help. :P
I have my Drum Machine (has no midi) hooked up to channel 1 of my MobilePre USB preamp. I have the recording driver set to my preamp and the playback set to my computer sound card. I'm trying to record sound from my preamp, but it won't record! Help!
This is a dire question for me, and i'd like to know as soon as you can send a reply. Will Battery 3 and Aturia CS 80V work as VST Instruments on Sonar 6? I've been put through a lot of bull lately with this stuff. If it can i'd like to get a copy as soon as possible.
You can patch virtual instruments. Send the output of teh MIDI tracks to the Virtual instruments. Then bounce the tracks to audio tracks, or export the audio as a Wav file
By patching a virtual instrument, they're like a MIDI sound module but built into the the computer. SONAR Home Studio and Music Creator both come with virtual instruments.
you said about connection of MIDI to PC or Key bord, Ok! But there are two plag in and out on MIDI/Interface while there is only one plag on PC or laptop..
You can buy an audio & MIDI interface at Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc. A MIDI Controller is a musical keyboard that let's you play virtual instruments built into our software, and also control things in the software like your mix and transport controls.
I have a question if I am using a synth would I be able to export the synth patches that are on the software to my keyboard or would I have to just use my computer all the time since it's not a real midi controller. having bit hard time understanding that?
Do you mean that you want to take the sounds that are in the virtual instruments inside the computer, and put them inside your keyboard controller so you can play them witthout the computer? The answer is no. Keyboard controllers are controllers only, they do not have built in sampling or memory.
Each virtual instrument inside SONAR is the equivalkent of a full hardware synthesizer, only they are built into the computer.
SONAR will support multiple MIDI COntrollers rouoted to multiple instruments in SONAR, sso you could have different controllers playing different syntsh at the same time
another question: what sofware would u recommend buying? my needs are recording my band with live insturments that are connected through the interface, also it would be nice if it had some nice drum teachno beats and alot of synth patches that I could use in live preformaces. The guy at the store told me Sonar Home Edition 6 is what I should get. What do u think?
Hi, I have just purchased a Roland FP7 piano with Sonar 7 software and would like to know if I can download a midi file of the song "Imagine" by John Lennon and edit the piano section to allow me to download it to a usb port to insert it into my piano for playback. I have no idea how to go about any of this and any advice offered would be greatly appreciated.
Does the FP7 piano play MIDI files by itself, without being connected to a computer? If so, then the answer is yes you can do this and here is how Find the MIDI file online. Edit the piano section the way you would like. Save As MIDI file from SONAR. Put the file on a USB stick, then put it on your piasno and play it.
Hi, I downloaded a midi file of imagine from the internet and copied this to a usb stick. Then inserted that into the piano and it played back ok. But would like to know, if I copy a midi file direc to the sonar 7 software can I then edit it to take out the piano only and then onto a usb to be played back from my Roland FP7. Sorry to come across as a nerd but this is all new to me and keen to be able to play the song through my piano with the backing music of a tract. Kind regards Rosco.
I have SONAR 7 right now. i'm trying to record my keyboard through a USB midi connection and sometimes it does show the lights on the cable on and sometimes it doesn't! is there an order for putting in your cables?
Secondly, If i want to record my keyboard's grand piano and then a bass using the different sounds on my keyboard it justs changes to the bass from the piano when i record the bass the second time and play it back! So the sounds are bass and bass instead of grand piano and bass!
hey, i just installed cakewalk sonar studio 6 and im not getting any sound from my mic. the recording button doesnt work, and the sound meters are not working, how do i fix this?
Is your audio interface set up in Settings | Audio Options? IF yes, then have you set your input on your track to your audio interface? If yes, then have you armed your track for recording by pressing the R buttion on the track? You might also need to press the input monitoring button on teh track.
SONAR 6 XL will work with Directx or VST Audio effects. If the effects that come with your other programs are in that format and are not locked to those programs, then you should be able to use them in SONAR. Any of teh effects you can download from Cakewalk will work.
Hi there are some significant: ACT, the Synth Rack, New Instruments, new effects, a new mixing console. The difference is much bigger when you go to SONAR Producer Edition or SONAR Studio Edition
I use reason4 but when i use my midi2usb cable there is a delay between the keystroke and the sound.. like if i choose drums and turn on the sound n the keyboard AND in reason it sounds like bam
Hi, we're Cakewalk and we can help people out who use our software. Unfortunately we don't know much about Reason. If I had to guess I would suggest that your latency is set to high and you should lower it. I would guess you would find that in settings or options. Good luck!
Make sure you are using an asio driver for you sound card, also in the setup options for midi make sure you set the latency speed at about 10 -5 as low as your pc we handle .any problems you can mail me
I have an m-audio midisport uno hooked up to my pc but, I don't know what program to open so I can start recording music. Do I need a sound module to go with my uno?
You do need some recording software. I would suggest Cakewalk Music Creator or one of the versions of SONAR. These programs have Virtual instruments built-in that will give you plent of sounds to choose from.

Hey Cakewalk,
two questions:
1) My sustain pedal don't work in sonar as it works in FL Studio. (automatically)
2) Am having problems setting up my M-Audio Axiom MIDI Keyboard to control SONAR. (sliders, knobs, Transport controls)
Are there any presets for M-Audio products like my Axiom Keyboard?
I need to get to business with this software... love it too many! Thanks a lot Cakewalk. Appreciate.

Thanks YouTubers!
matrixate 2 years ago
It's not a matter of what sequencer you use (except don't get Reason since it doesn't allow plugins)
You want a virtual instrument plugin (vst) for orchestra... Search google for "realistic orchestra virtual instrument plugin" make sure you check out as many as you can and find the best one first, there are probably a lot of crappy ones out there

How do I bounce MIDI to Audio in Sonar?
bluecafe69 2 years ago
i am learning as i go so there must be an easier way. but one way is to export the track(s) to wav. then import them back into an audio track.
Bombotta 2 years ago
I have a few questions. Do I need a midi keyboard in order to create midi sound in sonar? If so how will I be able tweak the midi without that controller thing, how?
Joskun 2 years ago
you need a midi keyboard or "trigger" to use softsynth programs. if you are recording a guitar or something you do not. once you have some midi recorded, you could bounce it all to wav. then import it into an audio track. there you can add effects or cut/paste, fit to time etc. i hope this is helpful, i am also trying to learn more about what i can do with midi.
Bombotta 2 years ago
thx a lot for the quick response :)
Reason I ask is because FL studio can work without a midi keyboard.
Joskun 2 years ago
love the music in the background.
pespicokelover 2 years ago
MIDI is the easiest. It was invented by Michelle Dingor that's why its called MIDI. It's very famous now for making songs. You can even create midi file from your car, washing machine and other home appliances.
xzqwer1234 2 years ago
I don't know where you get your information, but MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and it was developed between 1981 and 1983 by many different engineers, most notably Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits, I Kakehashi of Roland and Tom Oberheim of Oberheim Electronics.
crn81980 2 years ago
Nahh, you've fallen into the conventional trap here crn. He's totally right, MIchelle DIngor created it as she was very conscious of her own voice and needed a format which could not capture it.

Any advice would be greatly apprieciated as in good pc or laptop choices for this sort of thing.

lokuazaz 3 years ago
haha its so complicated to set up a good midi sound with no delay or anything stupid, and good buffer and stuff, with mac (logic pro 8) you just plug your USB keyboard in and it works suprise suprise :D like most recording things on mac ;)
i really dont like STUDIO STRINGS on this they sound fake, LOGIC exs24 sampler orchestra sounds and bassicaly all there samples are really good, cakewalk is atleat better than cubase LE though i hate that, i bet cakewalk is one of the better ones for pc!:)
jamez123123 3 years ago
Honestly it's so complicated. I agree with you. I install the M-Audio software on my computer, I connect it the USB, I connected the midi cable from the Output of the keyboard to the Input of the M-Audio. I went to Properties in the Analog Connector of my computer & I tried to adjust it to Recording option and it doesn't give me the other options. The M-Audio came with a 'Fast Track Pro software which I don't even know how to use either yet to get my mini studio. I need help. :P

How can I export a midi file to audio without having to send it to a keyboard and back to the pc?
ElectricLightForever 3 years ago
You can patch virtual instruments. Send the output of teh MIDI tracks to the Virtual instruments. Then bounce the tracks to audio tracks, or export the audio as a Wav file
CakewalkSoftware 3 years ago
It's there a tutorial on how to do this?
ElectricLightForever 3 years ago
1. Open and use the Synth Rack or Insert | Soft Synth (pick one that is loaded on your system)
2. Select a sound on the soft synth
3. Set the output of your MIDI track to the Soft Synth
4. Repeat for as many MIDI tracks as you need sounds.
5. File | Export Audio, Edit | Bounce to Track, or Freeze Track depending on which version of our software you have

By patching a virtual instrument, they're like a MIDI sound module but built into the the computer. SONAR Home Studio and Music Creator both come with virtual instruments.

where can i buy an interface, or what do i need to type to FIND an interface
and, what exactly does a midi controller do?
perducci88 3 years ago
You can buy an audio & MIDI interface at Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc. A MIDI Controller is a musical keyboard that let's you play virtual instruments built into our software, and also control things in the software like your mix and transport controls.
CakewalkSoftware 3 years ago

I thought I saw a midi input port on the PC itself. Do they make computers that have them built in?

No, they do not usually make PCS with MIDI inputs. Sometimes yout audio interface will have one built in.
CakewalkSoftware 3 years ago
I have a question if I am using a synth would I be able to export the synth patches that are on the software to my keyboard or would I have to just use my computer all the time since it's not a real midi controller. having bit hard time understanding that?
lithkid 3 years ago
Do you mean that you want to take the sounds that are in the virtual instruments inside the computer, and put them inside your keyboard controller so you can play them witthout the computer? The answer is no. Keyboard controllers are controllers only, they do not have built in sampling or memory.
Each virtual instrument inside SONAR is the equivalkent of a full hardware synthesizer, only they are built into the computer.
CakewalkSoftware 3 years ago
Ya pretty much. how do keyboardist play live I 'vae seen many using MIDI controllers on the stage?
lithkid 3 years ago
SONAR will support multiple MIDI COntrollers rouoted to multiple instruments in SONAR, sso you could have different controllers playing different syntsh at the same time
CakewalkSoftware 3 years ago
another question: what sofware would u recommend buying? my needs are recording my band with live insturments that are connected through the interface, also it would be nice if it had some nice drum teachno beats and alot of synth patches that I could use in live preformaces.

TheRoscoMan 3 years ago
Does the FP7 piano play MIDI files by itself, without being connected to a computer? If so, then the answer is yes you can do this and here is how Find the MIDI file online. Edit the piano section the way you would like. Save As MIDI file from SONAR. Put the file on a USB stick, then put it on your piasno and play it.
CakewalkSoftware 3 years ago
Hi, I downloaded a midi file of imagine from the internet and copied this to a usb stick. Then inserted that into the piano and it played back ok. But would like to know, if I copy a midi file direc to the sonar 7 software can I then edit it to take out the piano only and then onto a usb to be played back from my Roland FP7. Sorry to come across as a nerd but this is all new to me and keen to be able to play the song through my piano with the backing music of a tract. Kind regards Rosco.

hi,
I have SONAR 7 right now. i'm trying to record my keyboard through a USB midi connection and sometimes it does show the lights on the cable on and sometimes it doesn't! is there an order for putting in your cables?
Secondly, If i want to record my keyboard's grand piano and then a bass using the different sounds on my keyboard it justs changes to the bass from the piano when i record the bass the second time and play it back! So the sounds are bass and bass instead of grand piano and bass!

Is your audio interface set up in Settings | Audio Options? IF yes, then have you set your input on your track to your audio interface? If yes, then have you armed your track for recording by pressing the R buttion on the track? You might also need to press the input monitoring button on teh track.

Hi, ive got the sonar 6xl and im wondering if i have other software with sound effects, can i apply this effects to my sonar?
if not, would the effects apply if downloaded from cakewalk? thanks.....
Losalina1378 3 years ago
SONAR 6 XL will work with Directx or VST Audio effects. If the effects that come with your other programs are in that format and are not locked to those programs, then you should be able to use them in SONAR. Any of teh effects you can download from Cakewalk will work.

Hi, we're Cakewalk and we can help people out who use our software. Unfortunately we don't know much about Reason. If I had to guess I would suggest that your latency is set to high and you should lower it. I would guess you would find that in settings or options. Good luck!
