these are in no ways barracudas, i had one & it was a great fish, SUPER tolerant of ANY water conditions above 60 degrees, but SKIDDISH
these fish are not aggressive, they try to sneak as close as possible to prey & then STRIKE in a straight line to grab the prey & then they chomp down on em a few times to tear up the prey so it doesnt leave. IF YOU MOVE FAST AROUND THEM-they freak out & dart away & smash into the tank-often hurting themselves.
No these are not actually related to ocean barracuda. They are called freshwater barracudas (Ctenolucius hujeta). They belong to the Characin order, which means they are closer relatives to tetras which are also Characins. They are an ambush predator from south america that is adapted much like true gars and true barracudas. These fellows could probably grow up to 16 inches with proper care. They are from the family Ctenoluciidae which contains a handfull of similar fish. :)
you mean the cichlids are too aggresive to the "barracudas". cichlids are just plain mean and territorial. these fish however are merely predators and don't kill other fish for no reason. nor do they defend themselves. teeth doesn't automatically mean aggression.
it does depend on the tank size if you give them nough room they can grow to over 2 foot but in a smaller tank (-120g) they will probably only grow to 12-18"
why the fuck would i press this link?
