I disagree with the conjecture that Malini was murdered. Sunil gave into his desires by being intimate with Malini. For me it is more likely that Malini got pregnant. It is common for Asian women to experiance great shame from becoming pregnant outside of marriage. I think it is more likely that she committed suicide like Sunil said. As a result Sunil blames himself for her death - because he gave into his desires (in his perspective) rather than practice his discipline.
@RhymesNLife I apologize for the long delay. You might be right. My conjecture was based on my reading of Malini as a thoroughgoing rebel. As a rebel, she would defiantly resist any tendency toward shame, which is to say that she would still have shame, but it would be prevented from rising to the surface.
