I stand in support of most of what has been presented here.
I think there has been and in some places there remains exploitation of some social/economic groups of others.
There are negative self reinforcing activities it is in our collective interest to work on as a larger community, but at some point the local community is responsible for it's own dysfunction, and must build it's own solutions or face its end. I certainly don't mind helping but neither would I want to waste my own efforts.
Lack of education is by far the most glaring cause of the inequality in respective population's performance in the job market and academia.
Social prejudices are not to be discounted though. Far too many people are still treating coloured people different than they treat whites.
MY claim is that this inequality in opportunities are also the primary cause of the differences in IQ and SAT test scores. IQ tests are geared towards people who have been educated.
Im glad you pointed out in the end the problems with the culture. I have wonder for a long time how we can change the culture of the poor. White too, all cultures of poor people promote a negative cycle of poverty and violence. Some of the problem stem from the need for respect and glory. This leads them to make poor financial decisions and buy expensive cars and jewelry that shows off the wealth they do have, instead of investing it in truly valuable items. But how do we change this?

However the only people to blame are the people who enslaved them. Adaptation can only be so helpful. One thing. The idea that black people would be somehow less intelligent than white people is a racist concept, not a stereotype. A stereotype would be that black people like watermelons or fried chicken, or that white people can't dance. Stereotypes generally have some basis in fact. Racism, on the other hand, is the promotion of one race over another, which could be applied in this circumstance. Lines between stereotypes and outright racism (both apply to this) are often blurred.
When Europeans came to Africa they found that black African society was at the hunter-gatherer stage. Europeans have passed through the stage of Enlightenment, developed complex philosophical doctrines etc, while the blacks could not develop a boat and a two floored house.

Read any scientific paper and you will notice that in the text only the author and year is given, and in the reference section at the end of the paper, the authors, year, journal name, journal edition and article page numbers are given. It states that IQ scores increased dramatically in blacks and latinos while whites demonstrated no increase. It then went on to state that this is probably due to cultural differences between generations (greater access to information) and better nutrition. So how exactly does Neisser support your claims?
@EnigmaHood becuase it also states a larger effect for genetics. I never said that IQ was ALL genetics - and this is the part that makes it interesting. By knowing the extent to which variations in IQ are accounted for by genetics or environment, we learn how to implement this in a practical way to assist with education.

If memory serves, it may well have used a couple of twin studies, but there are far better papers on this topic that utilise twin studies now – see Kaufman & Lichtenberger 2006
I feel the reason why african americans do bad in school is because most of them don't care. Plus, it has come to my attention that black people who use correct grammer are concidered "too white" or also known as an "oreo". I have felt this pain my self. Excuse any incorrect spelling... Umm.. environmental factors are important but aren't everything dude. If some kid was born without a brain, no amount of environmental nourishing will make him successful. Besides, what you're talking about is socio-economic status which is independent of intelligence.
@b4byfac3 Society and cultural factors are immensely important in determining how a person turns out, and thus what their intelligence would be. No they aren't everything, but they are primarily responsible for the massively disproportionate IQ scores. There are other factors though like pollution, and nutrition that will make an impact as well.

I stand in support of most of what has been presented here.
I think there has been and in some places there remains exploitation of some social/economic groups of others.
There are negative self reinforcing activities it is in our collective interest to work on as a larger community, but at some point the local community is responsible for it's own dysfunction, and must build it's own solutions or face its end. I certainly don't mind helping but neither would I want to waste my own efforts.

Lack of education is by far the most glaring cause of the inequality in respective population's performance in the job market and academia.
Social prejudices are not to be discounted though. Far too many people are still treating coloured people different than they treat whites.
MY claim is that this inequality in opportunities are also the primary cause of the differences in IQ and SAT test scores. IQ tests are geared towards people who have been educated.

Im glad you pointed out in the end the problems with the culture. I have wonder for a long time how we can change the culture of the poor. White too, all cultures of poor people promote a negative cycle of poverty and violence. Some of the problem stem from the need for respect and glory. This leads them to make poor financial decisions and buy expensive cars and jewelry that shows off the wealth they do have, instead of investing it in truly valuable items. But how do we change this?

However the only people to blame are the people who enslaved them. Adaptation can only be so helpful. If you work in a field all day, every day, you will automatically use less brain function and more muscle function, which leads to an imbalance in knowledge. These traits are passed on to children. There's really no other explanation for it.

One thing. The idea that black people would be somehow less intelligent than white people is a racist concept, not a stereotype. A stereotype would be that black people like watermelons or fried chicken, or that white people can't dance. Stereotypes generally have some basis in fact. Racism, on the other hand, is the promotion of one race over another, which could be applied in this circumstance. Lines between stereotypes and outright racism (both apply to this) are often blurred.

When Europeans came to Africa they found that black African society was at the hunter-gatherer stage. Europeans have passed through the stage of Enlightenment, developed complex philosophical doctrines etc, while the blacks could not develop a boat and a two floored house.

However, Genetics DOES have A LOT to do with one's learning ability. Your argument that it does not is just a falsehood. This does not go to say that "all" people of a particular race type are more or less intelligent. However, the evidence does say that genetics is linked to IQ, and IQ is the strongest indicator of learning capacity.

Neisser et. al. & Bouchard both look at the heritability of IQ and conclude that the genetics is the most significant cause for this.

You could so easily even just scan the abstract of those papers and get at least an idea of how they draw their conclusions. Read any scientific paper and you will notice that in the text only the author and year is given, and in the reference section at the end of the paper, the authors, year, journal name, journal edition and article page numbers are given. Not the page numbers of individual claims. Anyway, this is a seperate argument. I'll get you the numbers if you're willing to then actually review the evidence in the name of openmindedness.

@maxnlou Like I said, you're not a scientist. I took a look at Neisser et al. and it actually SUPPORTS the idea that IQ is strongly affected by environmental factors. It states that IQ scores increased dramatically in blacks and latinos while whites demonstrated no increase. It then went on to state that this is probably due to cultural differences between generations (greater access to information) and better nutrition. So how exactly does Neisser support your claims?

@EnigmaHood becuase it also states a larger effect for genetics. I never said that IQ was ALL genetics - and this is the part that makes it interesting. By knowing the extent to which variations in IQ are accounted for by genetics or environment, we learn how to implement this in a practical way to assist with education.
Why are you only looking at one paper anyway? That doesn't seem very balanced. Read around the topic some more.

1) black people consistently score lower IQs (as your video agrees - 1SD below the mean for whites)
2) the evidence does point to genetics accounting for the majority of the varience in IQ scores.
Best citation for this is Bouchard, 1990; the Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart, Science 250 (4978) pp. 223.

Then I asked you cite a source that backs up your claim and EXPLAIN how it backs up your claim. @EnigmaHood Herrnstein & Murray: the bell curve – chapters 13-17 focus largely on race differences in IQ. This is considered one of the definitive texts on this topic. If memory serves, it may well have used a couple of twin studies, but there are far better papers on this topic that utilise twin studies now – see Kaufman & Lichtenberger 2006

I feel the reason why african americans do bad in school is because most of them don't care. I don't understand the narrator of this video. According to his lined graph, it shows that Asians are "statistically performing better than whites academically", but in general Asians are still lower than whites throughout. So why is that? In fact even the socalled academically lowly educated blacks are better than the Asians in general. So why is that? There are Asian poor in far worst condition than blacks, but no one is talking about them at all. So why is that?

But as it relates to the comment, can you tell me what amount of funding goes into educational programs in Gary? or what effect the unemployment rate has on poor communities? Its no secret that funding is all but stripped in almost every low income area in the country. Including those in the midwest where the bulk of the govt assistance money goes.

Its compensatory is the bottom line. Umm.. environmental factors are important but aren't everything dude. If some kid was born without a brain, no amount of environmental nourishing will make him successful. Besides, what you're talking about is socio-economic status which is independent of intelligence.

@b4byfac3 Society and cultural factors are immensely important in determining how a person turns out, and thus what their intelligence would be. No they aren't everything, but they are primarily responsible for the massively disproportionate IQ scores. There are other factors though like pollution, and nutrition that will make an impact as well.
