I went to Tourtellotte High School in North Grosvenordale Conn. In the late 50's Paul Chaplain and the Emeralds would play at our high school dances. In fact the drummer Eddie Morgan and I went to basic training in the AF together in 1961. He went to high school with my sister at Bartlett HS in Webster Mass. Thanks for the memory - sadly Paul is gone but the music will never die............
I have this on a 45. Had forgotten about it till I saw your post. Great song. You Tube is the greatest for letting us find and listen to these old songs.
Three little children, lyin' in bed Two were sick and the other 'most dead Sent for the doctor and the doctor said, "Give those children some short'nin' bread." Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin', Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread, Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin', Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread. Put on the skillet, slip on the lid, Mama's gonna make a little short'nin' bread. That ain't all she's gonna do, Mama's gonna make a little
This recording is a gem, was translated into several languages. In Latin America, known as "Pan con Mermelada". But shortnin´Bread conveys more energy than other. While the foreign version included a piano riff.. The original and the cover are both in the tone of "E".
This record became #1 on WLS in Chicago in October of 1960, according to their printed music surveys. (#2 was Mr. Custer by Larry Verne, in case you're interested).
This is the fourth rendition of this song that I have heard tonight and each one gets better....I know I won't be able to get this of my head for 6 weeks.
