What do we have here? Two Filipino boxing champions -- Nonito Donaire and Brian Viloria. And some haters are saying that Philippines only has Pacquiao while their countries have lots. Filipinos have been fighting in the US since the 1920's.
FACT! Brian Viloria was BORN and RAISED in the Philipines till he was 6. His parents came to Hawaii in the 1980's to raise his brother Gee and sister Roxanne and Brian stayed back in the Philipines with his grand-parents
Common guys Nonito did didrespect Brian in the past saying that he a better boxer than Brian and not even on his level. But it doesn't matter anymore this kids are working together now!! That's all it matter!! Kids can grow up and be a better man of making a choice what to say!!
Why do you guys get so butthurt when someone introduces a fighter (who lived in the US) as someone from Hawaii? Shit, seriously... he does carry the Filipino flag to the ring when he fights.
I was born in the Philippines... left for Canada when I was 14. I've lived here for 6 years now and I still haven't forgotten my Filipino roots. And I know for sure these guys feel the same as me.
Viloria was born and raised in Hawaii, speaks tagalog, but his first language is english. In no way shape or form did he betray his identity. as a matter of fact, he seems like a better person then nonito donaire.
I was explaining to him that brian was born in hawaii and to claim that he was from hawaii is by no way a sell out. and between the 2 boxers I said that viloria was from what i know the nicer guy. Donaire has said some messed up things, including to his dad and other boxers. I know those are some personal issues but I happen to be filipino and a boxing fan so I follow up on these as a way of entertainment.
Interesting, I just merely watch fights, but if you follow boxing then I guess you have more sense of the boxer's personality than I do. I have never heard Nonito say anything degrading to another person and on surface, he seems like a humble guy. I just see him knocks people out and give respect to them afterwards.
ya between the 2 nonito shows more promise in the ring, but he needs to work a little more on his attitude if he wants followers like pacman. right now his humble before and after fights, but when being interviewed by radioshows his been known to talk down on other boxers, and his also known for saying stuff like owing nothing to his last trainer, who happens to be his father aswell. but ya his the better boxer between the 2 guys.
what you heard on the radio was the issue about viloria, ryt?fyi, the real story was when brian became the champion the first time, nonito came up to him and congratulated him since they were both pinoys..nonito wished to fight viloria at that time, but brian looked down on him and just told him why should i fight you, you're a nobody!!nonito was just returning the favor to brian when he commented on that interview
try to view donaire's speech after the darchinyan fight, you would understand
Dude, Ive met this guy and his dad when I was stationed in Hawaii. He is a sellout. He didnt claim to be Pinoy before. He said he was hawaiian, wearing a Hawaiian trunks. That is why they call him the Hawaiian Punch. Now he's gonna try to jump the bandwagon and ride with Pacmans success.
I guess you didnt get my previous post: My bad folks I was talking about Viloria. He's pretty popular in Hawaii, speaking like a local during his interviews, mentioning nothing about Philippines or Filipinos at that, until Manny emerged. How sad, but i guess, as long as he gets his piece of the pie...
cmon we should be proud too that we have Fil-Am boxers who still patriotic to our country, these two guys were born and raised in US, but still have the heart of Filipino. Mabuhay kayo! pacman, donaire and villoria!
Sadly to say, for I am one myself who is a Proud Pinoy, a lot of Filipinos are like that. We have lost our identity that we often take other peoples culture and image rather than create our own. It's a blessing Manny came out and stayed humble even at the time when he pretty much has everything. Filipinos should be the same way... humble yet proud.
what theheckareyoutalkingbout??? how have they lost their identity?? they are filipino americans cuz they're born here, it's not their fault & just cuz they don't hv pacqiuao's accent doesn't make them less filipinos..being a filipino comes from the heart & ur values,,language is just geography..there r a lot of filipinos who speak the language but steal from their fellows, who put their interests first before their countrymen,,& u call that real filipinos??? ur insight is so poor :(
