I can't understand why SOME parents won't let their kids watch this movie

My cousins were over yesterday with their kids, before we sat down for dinner I suggested about putting a movie on for them to keep them occupied while we ate, they said "what movie ya have in mind?" i suggested The Lion King they said "No the part where the kings brother (Scar) kills the king (Mufasa) and his son (Simba) might upset the kids. The kids UNCLE(and mine) died earlier this year.
