I hate that old people use the excuse of wooden rackets are the reason modern tennis is such a high level and that you can't hit topspin with one of those rackets. The real reason is that back in those days, nobody had figured out the best technique for hitting a tennis ball, i mean look at mcenroes swing for gods sake. Give fed, nada, djok or murray a wooden racket and they would make these guys look silly.
To begin with, wooden racket wont let Federer or Nadal even lift as they are doing, not even hitting a good top spin forehand. Just look at it once in real life.
And tennis has evolved! There is now lot of academies, specific training, many ways to learn etc etc... Nadal and Federer would be coimpletly different players if they were playing at McEnroe times.
@HoopiesGoThrough@HoopiesGoThrough Dude have you ever even tried hitting with those things...let alone playing a tournament with them? It's not as easy as just changing your technique. If you hit with the "windshield wiper" style forehand like pretty much every guy does nowadays you would shank or miss everything.
@HoopiesGoThrough It is true, with wooden rackets you needed to hit the ball straight in the middle of the racket, nowadays you can hit it anywhere you want and control it all the same. And by the way, this is the reason why modern tennis is at such a LOW level. Athleticism has become much more important than talent, and the stronger you hit the ball the stronger you are. Federer is the last classy number one we'll get. And all current players should learn from McEnroe's "swing".
@HoopiesGoThrough I'm a big time Agassi fan (and also a huge Nadal fan) and I think your comment is utterly stupid! You cannot compare era's and the fact remains that today's players hit with much greater technology.....trust me, I once tried to use a wooden racquet for fun and you don't understand how retarded it feels! I'm not a top tennis player, but something tells me they would play no where near the level they play with todays technology...no where near it!
I dont get what people like about McEnroe. He was and is a choleric guy without any sportsmanship. By the way is style of play is definitely the ugliest ever shown in professional tennis. No doubt.
Check out The "Borg protesting a point. Mcenroe throwing one away" clip (in a match Mcenroe was losing), Gordontrek & you may want to rethink that view. Tell me what you think...
Yep, I'm about to blog that later tonight. I saw it the other day, Becker hit a perfect pass down the line and low but Mac has incredible control even stretched out to get the volley then Becker diving, it was a GREAT point.
Too bad Mac lost, but he got him in straights at '92 Australian.

Becker’s dive vs. McEnroe’s luck
0:30 If Becker just hit the ball down the line into the corner, McEnroe would not have retrieved it. ☆☆☆☆☆

Not having much knowledge about tennis,I started playing Virtua Tennis with a friend. We always played with the famous guys,Fedrer,Nadal,DJ,Andy etc.
After a while,I unlocked a new player. He was Boris Becker. And he could beat literally anyone.
Googled a little about him,read about him,watched his videos,and then I realised,LEGENDS ARE LEGENDARY!

@Makke777 you fail to understand the genius of his game. it was pinpoint serve placement with the best net game ever.

@KingCast65 too bad mac lost? ...you disguist me.
airsoftbuddies50 11 months ago
@airsoftbuddies50 Why?
Simply because I happen to like McEnroe more than Becker?
Have you seen my McEnroe Boston video? I guess you won't like that either :(
KingCast65 11 months ago
@KingCast65 I love McEnroe, but, simply Becker is a legend. I love him more.
airsoftbuddies50 11 months ago
@airsoftbuddies50 That's cool I dig Boris as well, just saying there's no need for disgust mate :)
And Mac has one more GS title in singles and countless more in dubs, some I believe with Michael Stich,
