  • Too bad they didn't stay off the air.

  • Wow I totally remember this! =)

  • Cool!

  • Not only is Elvis still alive, John Wayne is too!!!!

  • I lived in Davis, CA during this time and could get this station there (we actually got 2 channel 8's, the other in Salinas, rotating the antenna one would overtake the other), but whenever I was up to catch the sign-off the reception was only good enough to hear the audio so I never saw what it looked like.

By 1985 TVs could only tune up to channel 69, so I wonder if those translators are still on the air.

  • Highly unlikely. These days most frequencies are used for cell phones, other communication or even digital channels.

  • K12IX in Austin is still around

K49CK in Stead is a newer translator

  • In my Country we Use to Sign Off with GOD SAVE THE QUEEN THEN O'CANADA TODAY WE PLAY ONLY O'CANADA I MISS GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. I HAVE TRAVELLED THE WORLD PLAYING BASKETBALL IT IS VERY NICE TO HEAR OTHER NATIONAL ANTHEMS

  • No, those translators with channels 70-83 are no longer broadcast due to other frequency allocations.

  • Wished more stations had translators/repeaters stations listed in their sign-offs (must be more common in places like the southwest and rural areas, but I find it amusing seeing how common that is outside the US).

  • Especially in Canada--I know having seen some Canadian TV sign-offs on the web.

  • I noticed some Japanese TV stations do the same as well in their sign-offs.

  • Thanks for this sign-off from Reno. I thought WIS-TV in Columbia, SC was the only TV station to use John Wayne at sign-off.
