  • Slowpoke-with-red-hat and 100% Ubuntu clone released!

  • I'd definitely buy minecraft on my android.

  • Advice, TALK SLOWER

  • @glowcode yes

  • I just got Readplease, a super powerful Windows XP text to speech program, to work in Linux Mint 11 after installing the program WINE. Next I downloaded Readplease and ran the file through WINE. It installed a Readplease icon on my desktop. I dragged and dropped it onto the task bar and it launches Readplease with a single click. After experimenting I discovered if you paste and copy your data into LiberOffice Writer first that Readplease reads it perfectly.

  • Don't like Fedora 15 at all compared to Ubuntu or Linux MInt.

  • been checking out Unity recently, it's actually not that bad, not saying I'm totally sold on it but found it easier than gnome 3 which kinda looks cool but feels a bit cumbersome when you're actually using it think you need to know the keyboard shortcuts for it to work well. Unity doesn't really seem to add anything for me but it's usable and looks ok.

  • 3.0 is out ^^

  • perhaps you can tell something about blender and 3dmagix/illusionmage...

  • I'd even pay for an xpheria play to play mincraft on my phone. xD

  • Absolutely loving Fedora 15!

  • Linux Action Show RIPPED apart fedora 15... heh, you may want to check it out first, perhaps sorta respond to their points directly or indirectly... cause right now my only impression of fedora 15 is from them.

  • @whatnameisavailablee I've been covering Fedora since the Alpha came out, I just haven't had a moment to make a video about the final product yet.

  • @whatnameisavailablee I think that they should be more careful when they say those things... They speak like Fedora was a really crappy experience for everyone's PC's. In my case fedora works a lot better than Ubuntu for instance since I have the nouveau 3d driver fully functional I can plug in multiple monitor without restarting X, brightness keys work (not in Ubuntu here), my touchpad doesn't make X to hang (it happens sometimes with Ubuntu) and so on.

  • i have looked forward to a review of mint 11 :/ im using mint 10 and really think about upgrading, and then all it got was a notification :/ pinguy os is way smaller and got a whole video

  • @AchPhoenix sorry, working one a Mint 11 and a Fedora 15 video. things have been hectic, as usual. :P

  • @invnd1987 I was kinda thinking the same thing. unless it's a major rewrite or something... and it's not.

  • @Worfox1 really? that's interesting... it would have made a lot of sense for it to be Java based...

  • @DannyOMcarvel I used it on my desktop for a while, but with my Nvidia card and the proprietary driver, there was a lot of tearing in videos and games.

Have it on the laptop though.

  • Man the beta for firefox is out already, that was fast.

Is zenwalk using ga - nome shell?

I dont really see how a version change with the kernel would spark developer interest.

  • dpkg -i /usr/src/linux-image-3.0.0-rc1-custom+_3.0.0-rc1-custom+-1_amd64.deb

    :)

broadcom wl module doesn't compile, anyway fglrx 11.4 patched for 2.6.39 kernel works as a charm.

  • Cant wait for the gnome 3 video that you mentioned you were going to do soon. Always enjoy your videos.

  • @invnd1987 would also be nice to know which wm/de he uses... but arch is nice ;-)

  • Just as you said, if minecraft on mobile can connect to other servers, yes I would

  • I'd definitly pay for an android version of minecraft, but first i wan't to get it running on my Arch machine!

  • Notch told that minecraft gets ported to all android devices and iOS, but it isnt the same as the current version on PC.

  • "Gnome". The "g" is silent. Thumbs up if you couldn't concentrate on the video because of it. Wait, no don't, I don't wanna be a thumbs-up whore. Wait now I'm just a post-modern thumbs-up whore D: please don't thumb-up!!

  • @AleifrLeifrson No. The head of the Gnome foundation says it with a hard "G." GNOME means "GNU Network Object Model Environment." How do you pronounce GNU? With a hard "G."

  • A 6" reader. It's miniscule. When will they bring out an e-ink reader of a size decent enough to read technical books!

  • @technoboi0 they have one, it's called the Kindle DX & it's I think a 9.7" e-ink

  • @gsxrDoug Sadly not available on Amazon UK :-( We only get the small one. I suppose I could get one from Amazon com but then comes the UK rip off. We always pay a ridiculously higher price for things here. Often the same, or more in GBP, as in US$. There's import duty, 20% VAT etc. Even downloads cost more. When I used that other operating system I found that Norton were charging the same figure in GBP as US$ for a download. So I didn't buy it and now I'm glad I've left all that stuff behind.

  • Git started ;)

  • Minecraft is the SHIT. Im actually playing it right now.

  • Looks like someone made their recordings right after some coffee

  • and the Xperia is not from Sony, it's from Sony Ericsson :)

  • Comment removed

  • Was it just me or was the intro a little more spunky this week?

  • do you use kdenlive for editing?

  • @wurzelmnnlein he does :)

  • @wurzelmnnlein I do indeed.

  • Great Video :D

  • Your likes/views ratio rules! You're actually quite an inspiration buddy! Keep it up!

  • dude the enthusiasm scared me ;D just woke up

  • There's already a faked minecraft for the PSP called Lamecraft... Looks nearly as good as Minecraft Pocket on the Play :D

  • Minecraft! Android! I'd buy an android running phone just for it(Well... maybe not quite :P ) !

  • HTC Rooooccckkksss....!!!!!!

  • i se. but I hope there wont be any bugs or plugin incompatibility

  • i would do that

  • There already making firefox 5 beta? I barly got firefox 4 working last month. [8.0]

  • Thanks so much for taking the time for making this Video.. Much appreciated. A job well done, very pro. Thanks again!

  • Well done to HTC, my Android phone is an HTC Desire and I always got the impression they are quite a decent company

  • I'm going to get the new Nook day one (well, July 1st since I'll be gone all month). I saw my aunt's Kindle 3, and I fell in love with how thin and light it is.

I love how the eReader market is turning out. It seems like ever since the Nook WiFi came out, Amazon and B&N were having a price war.

Hard to imagine the the first Kindle (2007) was $400. Hopefully in 2012, you could buy the best eReader for $99.

  • Oh god, should I update to Firefox 5? Firefox 4 works so well, and after Firefox 3 I'm deathly afraid of moving. Firefox 3 was shiiiiiiit. Made me move to Chrome.

  • Thank you HTC, This will definitely make me next purchase of a phone (from iPhone 4) to an Android device much smoother (I've owned the EVO, N1, and G2). GNOME 3 is running on my Fedora 15 installation.. I hope it gets better. It is definitely one step better with the extensions. As for Minecraft, I love that game, I don't know if I would buy the Pocket Edition simply because I love gaming on the PC not on consoles. The last console I bought was DS Lite(and most of my games are GBA ;D)

  • zenwalk is a really nice distro I find that Kde and gnome are way too heavy and getting heavier, I do have kde and gnome installed on one system but only do the bare installs such as kde-core and gnome-core and just install the things i really need.

. I am shocked of how slow some distros are especially when i leave Arch and try another distro out.

  • I'd like to see Ubuntu make a tablet pc :D

  • Do you use indirect light? the video seems a little bit to bright (brighter then previos videos) but neverheless good quality.

  • @Raffix394 I use two softbox lights. The biggest difference with this one is I didn't add any contrast in post. Ran out of time and had to leave town. Rendering it this way takes about 12 minutes, while adding contrast makes it take 45-60 minutes.

  • Hey! He has a Starcraft Battle chest on his shelf in the background!! :)

  • forget firefox 5 beta i am using aurora firefox im on firefox 6 alpha 2

  • hey dingus. nice video. grow a mohawk. thanks.

  • coulud you do a video on gnome shell customization in fedora 15? extensions and themes and stuff

  • Powerful delivery on this weeks news! Lovin it!

  • Smooth and informative.

  • Is there anything requiring companies to honor the "do not track" flag?

  • @BoiledNotScrambled I don't believe so, no.

  • Macbook? I see why. :)

  • Someone had their coffee today!

  • Fedora ubuntu, does it matter. It's KDE vs Gnome. I'm pissed.

WHEN is Linux going to be in the ear of MS, and apple?

    Android. Great.

    Great great Great.

Windows, OSX, (insert your OS here, hopefully LB)

  • Love the enthusiasm. Did you have an energy drink or something?

  • @JudgementalTaco lmfao, I was just thinking that.

  • @JudgementalTaco The guy has buckets of it!

  • @JudgementalTaco nope, just filmed it about 6 times. The camera was acting up, my desktop was acting up, etc. So there were a LOT of different takes of the beginning.

  • ?m a wow guy.

  • can you do a spot on wayland?

  • @jackclark1981 agree, It would definatley be intressting to know more about wayland!

  • This might just convince me to buy a HTC phone as my next one.

  • i like the linux mint 11 software center,i love the new look

  • Minecraft... boring as hell in my eyes, don't care about the platforms it supports.

  • @roflschofel

You're probably playing the free classic version then.

  • I like the interface in Meego, it's much better than the one in Joli OS. I would probably use Meego 1.2 on my netbook if it wasn't for their broken wifi support.

  • Try explaining to your boss what version 2.6 is in terms of Windows 7. "But 7 is greater than 2.6...so it's better right?"

  • good vid Jared. Have a great weekend.

  • @woeskwee I beleive it's "Jordan", not "Jared".

  • @commodore256 Jared is the subway fat guy. Jordan is the greatest NBA player This week in Linux?

  • @ReadWriteAccess Yeah, exactly.

I knew a guy named Michael Jordan insert_surname_here.

  • @commodore256 oh snap! whoops, I had a long day at work. Have a great weekend whatever your name is.

  • just wondered... which distribution are you running on your computer? what wm/de are you using?

    greez.

  • @Gnomeye AFAIK He runs Arch with Gnome Classic.

  • @Gnomeye it's Arch with Gnome 3 in fallback mode. Since I have an Nvidia card, Gnome Shell was giving me some issues (lots of screen tearing, especially in videos and games).

  • @thisweekinlinux arch, nice. I'm an archuser too... but with openbox since gnome3 went to extra.

  • One of the reasons to change to 3.0 IIRC is to change versioning scheme so that minor version become 3.x.0 and bug/security fixes become 3.x.y instead of the current 2.6.xx.y

  • Comment removed

  • keep on plugging! :) i didnt know you where using that thx

  • ooh Linux kernel 3. i might only really be a number update, but i'm sure it'll help fuel awareness as people talk about it.

  • Ahh yeah you seemed like you were in a rush lol. Now im wondering what YOU think of 2.6.40 vs 3.0 as far as the linux kernel name. Do you think it even matters? Personally I would like to see 3.0 simply because I don't think i've ever used anything but 2.6.x lol

  • @thisweekinlinux FYI, an official ICQ client has been for Linux lately (still beta). Maybe in the US it's not that popular, but where I live, it is. And it's kind of a scary feeling seeing this pile of junk appearing on Linux now. Year of the Linux desktop maybe?

  • I'm running Gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.04 :)

  • @thetechzonelive How do you switch to Gnome 3 on 11.04? I don't like Unity at all. Especially with the Gnome Tweak Tool updating, it's way more flexible.

  • @ajdman Add the repository, dist upgrade, install gnome 3, reboot.

  • Comment removed

  • @tcpnet That's faster than mine... my default speed (from ISP) is 3mbp/s :(

  • @CoryClaxon Lol i grabbed both 32 and 64 Bit iso's in under 10 minutes, the speed should start increasing. Download finished, probably avg. out to <1.5mbps.

  • you seemed more "snappy" today

  • Hmm... Maybe this will affect the balance of power and make Fedora the most popular distro for once?

  • Excellent.. Going to load up Fedora 15 on my Mini311... Gnome3 Style!

  • To be honest, since i've already paid for the game, I feel that I should get the portable version free too. Though a couple of pounds doesn't hurt.

Also I've had problems with Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop. The wireless card: Broadcom 4311 isn't working i've tried the methods on the forums and I can't understand what's the problem. Any help?

  • I am not updating my Droid X to Gingerbread. I don't want to loose my root access. I don't want to have to do the complicated rooting. If no z4root, I'm not interested. I don't see anything with Gingerbread worth updating for, not like with Froyo getting flash. I got Netflix working with Froyo so...

  • haha you sounded a little too excited at the start there. Kinda like a football announcer.

  • @eduardoc "it's friday" reminded me of something else instead :P i swear even the rythm was the same

  • yay 240p

  • Hi... One question ... I'm Linux user since 2004, general using Gentoo on my PC and HP Laptop. I'm curious which distribution you recommend for a laptop ? :)

    Greetings from Poland... again ;]

  • @Biacho85 I say Ubuntu 11.04 :D

  • @Biacho85 Since you use Gentoo, I assume you're a power user and not a newbie.

So, why do you ask such a newbie question? I mean, do you mind giving some details? Laptop model, processor and graphics card etc, what desktop environment you prefer, and so on.

I mean, there are literally 100s of different linux distros out there. So it's really up to what you prefer and what your computer can process.

To myself, I would go for either LinuxMint, Pinguy or Fedora. Since I prefer Gnome 2.

  • @Biacho85 Something that works.

  • @Biacho85 Have you heard of Sabayon? Gentoo based binary rolling release distro. Gentoo for the lazy (or 2nd PC if you like =) ).

  • @SeltsamerAttraktor Sabayon is Gentoo made bloat IMO

  • @egadw Doesn't really matter if it's a second or third PC. And besides that, it's far more familiar to your average Gentoo'tard than other, more "sophisticated" distros. I'm always at loss when it comes to digging around in Ubuntu for example.

  • What? Less likes than views? COME ON PEOPLE!

  • Crafted by the gods...

  • AWWWWWWWH SHIT

    DAT BEARD!

  • @Sylinic whats wrong with it, looks good with the hd camera :D

  • @madjunir Exactly my point, good sir.
