@domo37599 if i remember correctly this was the GAT-X133 Sword Calamity Edward Harrison colors this suit only appeared in the Gundam Seed Astray manga's
For those who don't know, this and TCIP's other videos are part of a how-to DVD that came with the October 2004 issue of Hobby Japan magazine. It also came with the Sword Calamity conversion kit.
Thanks for the vids, TCIP. They're a big help to us all.
i see..I'll try it then..I'm detailing SRW kits since it has less paint job needed but I don't know if it'll get rough when I use sanding sponge to remove the residues from the plastics..I saw here the recoloring process but I really don't repaint my entire kit..
i have a question...I'm using hobby color which is water based..is there a way for it so that it won't get scrapped out of the kit? I found it disturbing that it's easily scratched off..
if you use mr color paints, you must mix with mr. color thinner. their thinner is specifically designed for THEIR paint. likewise, if you go with tamiya, you must use tamiya brand thinner.

gimme a break dude this shit will take like 200 years you just need to sand it all the gundam then paint over the whole thing then just use markers for the details(if u can do that)
nope because they're not soluble with water! its like oil and water and that wont work! you'll have to buy lacquer thinner either from a gundam store around your area or hardware store ;p
Seriously, I saw the HG's as a step toward obtaining the skills to handle the PG bad boys, but after this video series, I realize that with the proper work and enthusiasm they can stand alone as a well detailed gunpla. I have started to put together SD's and HG's again, just to see what details I can bring out in my work, and am considering making some vids on it for yall.
What is he adding to the paint when hes painting the eyes? im building a gundam right now and having problems painting it because the paint is not sticking and its just making a mess and making it look pretty bad lol. is this the reason why? btw im using tamiya acrylics
You can't spraypaint some details, the amount of masking required to spraypaint the eyes would be idiotic, and would take way longer than just brushing them.
it would be cool if there were 1/144 perfect grade ones kuz i like really small and articulative models that are also really cheap too like within 5 to 10 bucks
Yes - That was a 1/144. I would actually recommend 1/100 HG's to start with, if possible. Though more expensive, the bigger parts make working with model feel less intimidating. Also - the 1/144 scale is quite budget in quality (so is the 1/100 HGs but not quite a low) and it actually takes more work to get them to look as good. So if you can spare roughly $10-$15 more per model, then the 1/100 HGs are a great start.
I agree with Gyric. To add to that. If you wanna do a job like this guy, its better if you start off with a practice kit(one you could mutilate for making a lot of mistakes. teehee). Personally i use 1/144's, since they're a bit cheap and dispensable(i'm on a refresher coz i havent done this in 9 years). Also, basic tools are model kit clippers(like a short nose plier), very fine(or called 1000) sandpaper. diamond files and an art cutter(not the ones you flick up)
wow so awsome... i got some gundam model but easy one those hards one apeal me but meh it seems so hard for a beginner... should, as i medium modeler, start those one?
i'm looking to get into this hobby, but i dont' wanna spend that much money on like the painting and stuff, is there any that come like prepainted and all i have to do is assemble? and how much do these cost? also where could i get em?
All of them already are molded in the colour they need to be. It's only when you want to make it completely different, like these series of videos, or want to make it look perfect is when you should paint it.
depends on where you are. if you're in the states, its pretty easy to grab em on ebay. $20 on average for a 1/100 HG(high grade) model kit. most parts of asia has loads of them. but if you're unlucky enough to be in the UK like me, be prepared to spend a whole lot of money since they're pretty rare here.
Thank you soOooo much for making this video. Please post more tutorials. This is really good for beginners like myself ^^. Please show us more techniques! Video tutorial ftw! =)
no, he just used a normal cotton swab, no thinner or anything. For lininn, i dont use gundam marker. I take some black tamiya paint and mix in thinner and then paint into the lining which will pretty musch go through the whole lining
What a bad ass… reading a book about himself at the end.

Aren't you using an overcoat like Gunze Super Clear? That will protect your color.

all I can see here are tamiya brands...haven't seen Gunze yet sorry..T_T

Can anyone tell what did he mix that Mr. Color Green with? is it thinner or water?
Is it necessary to mix acrylic paint before painting the model?
pingpong1087 2 years ago
well in the video it looks like he put thinner, but i recommend mixing mr. color with water.
lalala213 2 years ago
no dont mix with water -.- mix with lacquer since its lacquer based...
-depends of which airbrush if its internal mix theres no need if its external mix then ye
lilhustler8 2 years ago

hey can mr color be mixed with water for brush painting. Its way too thick by itself.

At 1:50 or so was that thinner or repaint?
Geoxile 3 years ago
i beleive its thinner..
lilhustler8 2 years ago
It is thinner, and he does it to clean the edge, where the paint overlapped onto the wall of that vent, where it wasn't needed.

yeah i paint eyes and head details with paint brush.
some people use airbrushes which is the best way to paint large areas but i cant afford them
Kiasko 3 years ago 2
this is why i buy mostly hg 1/100.. because i ts cheap and looks great as well with proper work.. its only the articulation thats not great..
joblagz 3 years ago
it would be cool if there were 1/144 perfect grade ones kuz i like really small and articulative models that are also really cheap too like within 5 to 10 bucks

it will never happen bcoz 1/144 is too small for designers, perfect grades are complicated..
joblagz 3 years ago
i wana see a perfect grade... lol

can anyone tell me what grade this is? and also i want to start building. so can anyone give me tips on what to make? thank you.
SHINDESDEATH 4 years ago
I don't know the grade but to start building I suggest a 1/144 HG.
They are easy and quick to build AND they are fun to play with.
BE WARNED: I don't recomend Gundam seed(destiny) 1/144 without a grade as they only have 5 articulations =P

Mirkiman 4 years ago
I doubt usual hobbystores stock Gundam Model Kits, but a good website that is based in Japan is HLJ(dot)com.
genikama118 4 years ago
idk japanese
Mirkiman 4 years ago
Eh? HLJ is in english, and the gundam instruction manuals may be in japanese, but you don't need to know any japanese if you want to build one.
genikama118 4 years ago
depends on where you are. if you're in the states, its pretty easy to grab em on ebay. $20 on average for a 1/100 HG(high grade) model kit. most parts of asia has loads of them. but if you're unlucky enough to be in the UK like me, be prepared to spend a whole lot of money since they're pretty rare here.

gundamstoreandmore[dot]com...that place is awesome.

no, he just used a normal cotton swab, no thinner or anything. For lininn, i dont use gundam marker. I take some black tamiya paint and mix in thinner and then paint into the lining which will pretty musch go through the whole lining

He is, however, using thinner to clean up excess PAINT from marking the black in the boosters.
Didn't like what he did for the eyes or the beams of the swords though. I thought a light yellow base would be better than pure white...
imbiggy 5 years ago
yeah i didn't like the swords much either, i do like the eyes though. the swords looked a little camp if you ask me.
