  • When you say don't kill living beings, how do you feel about bacteria, fungi and or viruses? Those are things that our body kill naturally, or attempt to on it's own. Was there any knowledge of the "micro organism" when the don't kill dogma was born.

  • hello, are there any other way to contact you or should i ask everything here? I have several... questions. thanks

  • I realy enjoying these videos. They are very useful.Transfer merrit to you Bhanthe!!!

  • absolutely marijuana helps, marijuana brings me much deeper into my mind and when i repeat thinking over and over the deep seeded negative emotions and feelings i have fade away and im left feeling much more assured and at one with everything.

when i meditate without marijuana my mind wanders and cant settle, im far too much of a thinker usually, i have it in my head that there is a benefit of stressing and overthinking everything. For some of us atleast, marijuana is wonderful

  • im interested in knowing more about your stance on sleeping, I'm very interested in dreams and the enlightening effects of DMT, as well as our minds need for sleep. You said that with meditation you find that you need much less sleep, which seems logical to me and i'd really like to hear more from you about the Buddhist thoughts on the topic

  • I'm confused are we not suppose to enjoy ourselves?

  • Thank you for all your videos, I have shared these videos in my group.

  • Thank you for sharing with us!

How many hours of sleep do you recommend?

  • <3

  • Is it OK to smoke pot before I try to meditate? I do not consider pot a drug, it is natural, & im not talking about excessive use. Please dont judge me I take this very serious.

  • Meditation is in my opinion is higher form of enlightenment, my suggestion(meditation) is try with a Buddha mantra.....once you have a higher level of enlightenment you might medicate fully(with or without mantra)...and always in meditation seek a master's advice, it could all go horribly wrong, that is what they say inviting the devil into your inner house...

  • i have to ask what are the robes for do they serve a purpose other than protecting you from the elements or is it just a tradition thing

  • Sad that these videos are over. Oh wait, sorry, sadness, sadness, sadness.

  • everything we eat was living at one time.

  • @cliffburton333 not everything. you'll be amazed in how much poison our food has. It kills all of us slowly. specially if you live in USA. Why do you think Cancer and heart disease is not rare anymore??

  • @1wish1washigh That is true

  • i am trying to improve my body image through diet (eating a lot) and gym, what is bad about this?

  • Peace & Love. Thanks!

  • if i meditate because i am angry at someone, do i continue meditation as usual and when i think of them and the become angry do i say "thinking thinking thinking" until i forget about them and the anger? so it "cures" my anger?

  • does killing plants count as killing? I mean, eating vegetables for example, would be killing, just as eating meat?

  • Thank you so much for the posting. This help me a lot especially to know medication vocabuaries, to get some more idea when i have to explain it to my husband or whoever who are not speak thai. I will show him all your vedio which will be very helpful as it all explain in English. Thank again.

  • so to meditate i have to be a vegan and not listen to music?

  • @SirCattlemenJoeseph Not true. You can listen to the song 4'33" by John Cage all you want!

  • Great Thank you

  • marijuana is a hinderance. if one day u can look back and see that u will have taken at least one step towards meditation/nirv.. True meditation takes u far beyond any high produced by any substance.

  • watching, watching, watching..... boring boring boring.... yeah i dont think this is how it was with the buddha, i think these euro dudes just take it and put their own spin on it. go pump some weights you give off an estrogen like aura even through youtube. not being mean, just giving tough love

  • I think it is wrong to say that marijuana should be avoided. If that is what you truly believe, then you yourself have not mastered the ability to meditate while high AS FUUUUCCKKK!

  • Dear friend, I have two questions and would be really thankful if you could answer them : 1.) I listen to some really enlightened beings and gurus and I understand something but somethings I fail to understand as to why did they say this and that leads to a lot of confusion and hence suffering. Now if a layman says something it's easier to let go but if a guru says so then it becomes difficult to remove it from the mind. How to go about it ?

  • weed is not drug,it is herb use for hundreds of year to help people such as medicine. How does marijuana effect meditation in a bad way?

  • BRAVO !!!!

    Thank you !!!

  • BRAVO !!!!

  • Thank you very much.

  • can meditation reverse my receeeeeeding hairline?

  • wait so you cant date anybody at all?

  • Perhaps I misheard you, but are you saying that being in a sexually active relationship will harm my meditation?

  • Comment removed

  • wow such a complete and comprehensive guide to meditation. Really thought out thorough and complete. Thanks again.

  • When I try to be mindful of body, it is making it awfully slow. I can not imagine someone really being mindful of watching the traffic in front, in the back, in the neighboring lanes and eating breakfast, applying brakes, pressing the pedal and drinking coffee, showing middle finger to next driver, etc. Forget about killing squirrels on the way. Instead of being mindful of minute things, we should be mindful of "I am alive today", etc. Otherwise, you will end up in a cave giving lectures.

  • so is marijuana bad for meditation?

  • @Emecepola yes, it's pretty much the opposite (been there, done that).

  • @yuttadhammo Your videos are a gift to us all. However, I disagree with what you said about marijuana/drugs. If drugs are used in ritual, only as a tool with which to commune with Spirit, then they are not "bad" for meditation. Quite the opposite, in fact! My path is such that I reach sabikalpa samadhi on a regular basis several times per week using marijuana or ketamine. I know eventually I won't "need" them to reach that blessed state, but for now it is fine - more than fine.. Divine!

  • @yuttadhammo As much as I would like to have good things to say about marijuana, I have to say I agree with you.

Anyway, these videos are awesome. I got a lot of insight. Thanks :D

  • @yuttadhammo Dear friend, I have two questions and would be really thankful if you could answer them : 1.) • @Emecepola yes dont smoke period is what he is saying but also yuttadhummo how much time do you meditate daily total

  • @Emecepola no, it isn't bad. Its good for meditation.

  • hey man, I have practiced your technique but I go through periods of hopelessness and at those times that is all that comes to my mind and I just want to lay down and quit. Have you ever felt hopeless and overcome it by meditation or do you know anyone who has overcome hopelessness by meditation?

  • @bahram7986 hopelessness is fine... hopes mean clinging to the future. When you are truly present, there is no need to hope for anything. Probably there is some sadness or displeasure in your mind that you are labeling incorrectly... look and see whether you like or dislike the state of mind, and you should see some disliking. When you do, say to yourself, "disliking, disliking", etc.

  • psychedelics would be amazing. and i lost my respect for you infortunately because you are an atheist. sorry i was raised a catholic

  • @northwestern578 a little tolerance could do the world good....

  • i am new to meditation and was wondering how long a day should i meditate and what time of day do you think is a good time for meditation....also is it a good idea to listen to calm music will meditation??....thank you

  • Do we need to be vegetarian or vegan? Or is that just something that wud help us get more out of meditation in our daily life?

  • grazie,grazie e ancora grazie!!!

  • Thank you!

  • thank you for spreading the work of dharmma luang por,kop kun:)

  • thanks , i had been mindful of my breath throughout all those activities you mentioned , but i think it may have prevented me from direct contact with the activity itself. can you clarify if this is correct or if being mindful of my breath during an activity such as walking is ok. thanks again.

  • The Buddha said, "when walking, one knows 'I am walking'." It is important to come to see the nature of the reality in front of us. Watching the breath during walking would take you away from the action of walking. It would be difficult to focus on either with any precision. Better to separate the two exercises.

  • big thanks, and good luck .

  • Thanks for the instruccions ^^

you made a beautifull work explaining

    thanks again! (:

  • hello, i enjoy and absorb your videos greatly... i am confused about one thing, the saying of the words in our head are we saying it like really saying it in our heads or are we just acknowleging it...

  • We're saying it in the object, not the head. When your object is the stomach, you are saying it in the stomach. When your object is the foot, you are saying it in the foot, etc.

  • thankyou very much for these videos, iv recently been troubled alot, and after finding your videos iv now been able to calm myself and feel at peace and happy again, these are very helpful, but i was wondering would it be rude to ask how often you meditate and how long for ? thankyou again for everything you have done for me, much love :)

  • No drugs at all? I find psychedelics to be quite useful in moderation. :S

  • useful for what?

  • @ShroomInduced

Hello, dont you see that is immature and ignorant ?

toxicants gives you the boost to be aware of what is around you like high meditation states, yes it does, but it's artificial, is not you who are doing it, something (chemical) is doing it for you, your are not discovering yourself like that. When we look back to hard objectives we had in life we can see and be great full how difficult and hardworking was it, you get me?You will find sooner or later that psychedelics is not it

  • Thank you very much for this video. It is good that you illustrated the fact that in order to do effective meditation, there are some unwholesome actions/desires/habits that one must give up. Too many people jump in to meditation without practicing the "moral" side first and give up because they have too many distractions and cannot meditate effectively. This, in my opinion, is probably the most important thing besides meditation.

    Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for making and posting the videos!

  • thank you, your video does help alot! this is only one more person you helped. :D

    peace!

  • Thank you Bhante for your clear explanation. Saddhu Saddhu Saddhu.

  • What if you were to break one of those five things you mentioned in the beginning of the video? Would you still recommend practicing meditation?

Also was wondering about this: when you say that one who is not attached to anything will not suffer much.. does it also mean that one who is not attached to anything will not enjoy much? In that case i would rather suffer much to enjoy the things I like.

Anyway, thank you for your videos. I find them really interesting.

    -Abeijar

  • but you miss out on pure bliss. TRUE happiness.

  • You can enjoy whatever it is that came to be, in between those should be what you already do enjoy. So you'll basically add things to the enjoyable list or refrain from labelling others as 'bad'. Or as 'good'. They simply are, and are perfect as such.

No attachment means not defining yourself by it.

  • Abeijar, oddly enough, non attachment makes you enjoy life alot better! it makes you enjoy more because then you are not afraid to loose what you have. you enjoy it till its gone. take it from a person who knows no real attachment. :D peace

    -Andrea

  • Makes sence, thank you for the comment :)

  • Breakyourself Meditation is difficult if you do not see the picture clearly. Only with more understanding, skills, effort, patience and clarity of mind, then only your meditation be a smooth sailing one. Otherwise, you'll stumble later on. It's much more difficult than anything you can imagine!

  • Breakyerself,

I too am an Atheist; happy to be of help. The towel is just a towel. Towels have many uses.

  • @yuttadhammo

    Really, you're an atheist ?

  • @menonfire12 - I am not Ven Yuttadhammo, but yes, he most likely is, as most Buddhists. :-)

  • @panci0808

Ok, thanks for the reply. :-D

  • @menonfire12 Part of being religious is separating good from evil, thus putting extra weight into things instead of taking them at face value. The world is as it is. Why create a god where there is none?

  • @NTHcats You say "part", elaborate in the other part, I'll like to hear. As to your question: I think that to many people it helps them explain a lot and give them propouse in their life, a lot of time give them unconditional love from a higher being and also, maybe most of the time, they believe some sort of heaven-hell afterlife and want to be "saved". I guess that's why some people believe in a god. Look at Christians you'll find these reasons make the most of them if not all. Any other ?

  • @menonfire12 I dont understand; there are many other parts to religion. O.o

i mentioned that part in particular because Yuttadhammo stresses from the start the idea of taking ideas as they are instead of labeling them automatically as "good" or "bad"

  • @NTHcats

I think it's a good advice, not to label ideas as ""good" or "bad" automatically. It helps diminish catastrophizing, reasoning takes time.

  • excellent resurce

  • you are awesome! Thank you so much!

  • No offense but you cant tell how happy a person is by their external appearance.

  • Your comment showed up in my email & I thought, "It doesn't sound like me to say someone is happy or unhappy." Because I agree with you, that I can't tell who is or isn't happy. Then I came back here & read my previous comments. I previously said, "...SEEM overall happier." Did you miss the nuance of my QUALIFIER? I wish when people paraphrased me--no offense-- they would do so ACCURATELY. To say "seem" makes my comment about my SUBJECTIVE impression rather than an ABSOLUTE statement.

  • my bad.

  • It's okay. Thanks for being gracious. I'm not used to experiencing that on the internet. Peace & metta.

  • I think people are drawn to different teachers or styles for karmic reasons of their own. There is a teacher or style for all of us wherever we are in our adventure.

  • It wouldn't hurt to smile every once in a while.

  • I have just recently found an interest in Buddhism.

I know that meditation is a large part of the practice and found your videos extremely helpful. Your explanations are very clear.

Thank you very much for posting.

  • Sadhu Bhante, your explanation is clear. I believe that it will benefit those who watch this video.

  • does it matter if we meditate at day time or night time??? wats better?

  • wat about being high while meditating??

  • Being high while you meditate is not the same. I would say that any transcendental effects you feel from meditating while high are probably due to the drug.

  • That's like saying, what about being drunk when you go for a doctor's appointment. Not very effective...

  • and apparently impairs one's ability to spell "consciousness"...
