This is more or less a psychological look into a fragile mind who connects with a puppet. The doll isn't cursed, or possessed or anything, it's all Anthony doing the work.
... except.... there's this one scene in the movie where I second guess this theory, a scene that makes it seem like the dummy really was alive the whole time...
@XmetaI4everX I'm guessing it's the scene where corky begins to breakdown down in anger after fats sadistically drives him nuts! (In his mind). In this scene...There's a shot of corky sitting next to fats on the couch. Then all of a sudden corky stands up, leaving the doll behind. And without any expectation, fats begins to move his head and eyelids around without anybody laying a single finger on it.
Now I'm going to go and add this to my Netflix queue. Honestly, I haven't seen this movie since I was around 7 (I caught some of it on TV afterwards, but I never watched it).
I saw this movie for the first time a few months ago, I found it extremely intense. Hopkins was amazing. I'm glad I didn't see this trailer first, I had no idea what path the story was heading down.
This classic movie came out during my 7th 8 th grade years. I had just started getting into horror movies and trying to find my way through the web of puberty. I thought that vantricquists were cool then this movie came out and I would do Fats and the girls woulc run from me like i was on fire.
Directed by Academy Award winner Richard Attenborough, with a screenplay by Academy Award winning William Goldman (who, of course, would later go on to adapt the screenplay for Rob Reiner's Academy Award winning 1990 film 'Misery'), music by the outstanding Academy Award winning composer Jerry Goldsmith, and starring the Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins!
When I was a kid and this trailer would come on, I would sprint out of the room, covering my ears! I wonder how many kids this ad scared the piss out of, besides me? It really isn't that great of a movie . . . but the trailer - wow! The cause of many a childhood nightmare.
I Guess The New Scary Flix Rely on way too much Gore And CGI. These Oldies But Goodies Still Impact Some Of Us Till This Day, Especially The Ones Who Were Around When They Were First Aired!
Man, if I was in the same room with than dummy..I'd..I'd..I would..what would I do? WHAT WOULD I DOOOOO???..Oh, I remember, I'd turn his ass into kindling for my fire and splinter his ugly mug into a thousnad pieces under my heel. I always wondered why the ones in these movies didn't unload a mini-gun into their stupid fucking wooden ass bodies..LOLOL One thing scarier is that 'dummy' I dropped in the toilet about an hour ago..FLUUSSHHH..and it was gone!
@nukecat Trilogy of Terror? I saw it when I was about 10. That darn creepy thing with the knife? I was certain he was under my bed and ready to kill me. To this day I can still recall her putting him in the microwave then later having those big teeth. Good posting.
@bigjoe7600 Trilogy of Terror still freaks me out !i still have to watch it with all the lights on and look around every corner for fear of that little evil fucker with a butcher knife lol
Ann Margaret is so beautiful...even in this film where she is suppos
ed to be so o
Ann Margaret is so touching. She has a kind of sad warmth that you dont see much of .She is so beautiful here even as she is supposed to be washed out, defeated and aged...She is stunning and so feminine.
Anthony Hopkins actually learned ventrolizum (I know it's spelled wrong, sorry), to play this part and was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award in 1978. He is an amazing actor
i can't stand ventriloquist dummies... *shudder*
