  • This looks like shit!

  • How can people possibly say this looks "bad"? I mean, sure, it doesn't even come close in terms of graphics to the PC version, but take a moment and consider what kind of hardware we're dealing with; somehow, an extremely talented team of developers created a playable FPS on a stock Sega Genesis.

Texture-mapped walls, multi-sided enemy sprites and what looks like sprite scaling... this isn't a half-assed effort. For the Genesis, this is almost unreal.

  • genius game

  • @DrN0Ob

Still the worst port, but still playable :)

  • This game was made in Brazil and it do not use any chip like Doom Snes, this game only use Mega Drive hardware.

  • So the Genesis version of this game has in level music, but the N64 version doesn't?

  • Pretty damned impressive.

  • Looks better than Zero Tolerance, at least.

  • Duke Nukem 3D on Wolfenstain 3D engine :(

  • Those guys really butchered the Duke Nukem 3D theme.

  • still better than duke nukem forever.

  • @PlanetaJuegosPC NOT!!!

  • Awesome use of the hardware... I WANT!

  • wow this is pretty rough

  • Adult content my ass.

  • this use wolf 3d engine?

  • As funny as it is its waaaay better than duke nukem forever

  • This is not the Duke I was looking for...

  • The bad thing about this isn't so much the game itself, this could have been good if it had been better made, like the graphics look very static and transparent at times. The sound is bad too. The worst thing is the ending, it tells you about the Emperor, who is the final boss (until there was the Atomic Edition, which added the Queen) and how Duke must go fight him "It's not over yet!" That's stupid as shit, why couldn't they make a different end screen?

  • Wolfenduke!

  • RPG kinda looks faster

  • i say the Duke Nukem 3D for the PC is better

  • @ProjecL Hur, ya think?

  • que lixooo

  • when did this come out

  • I WANT!!!

  • wow I didn't know this port. The sound samples art pretty impressive and faithful. The 3D is not the best but not the worst isn't it? Due to the Genesis limitations the music is ugly^^ Anyways thumbs up 4 the Duke and the the Sega Genesis!

  • Duke Wolfenstein much?

  • to much gamma

  • looks like a retextured version of wolfenstien 3D to be honest

  • hey look on the bright side.imagine a SNES port.

  • @landrick1711 it be like doom on snes

doom on snes is amazing on snes :) especially the music

  • @killkenny5000 Except for the muddy textures, reduced weapon count, and small window. Otherwise I agree...it was awesome.

  • @deusprogrammer yeah putting a real 3D graphic game with texture is a very rare thing to do on a snes and for so far DOOM is most impressive snes game

most impressive game on sega genesis will be sonic 3D blast

for some reason they managed to put realistic music on that game

  • atleast doom on snes looks like doom while this looks like "dukenstein 3d"

  • @nooblet911 so true :D

at least doom on snes was more playable than duke 3d on genesis

the snes pretty much used the super FX chip to gain more information the only games i know that use the FX chip was

DOOM-star fox thats it :L but i know theirs more games on snes that uses the FX chip

  • check out stunt race fx, a nice super fx racer.

  • @nooblet911 i did heard their was a more powerful chip for snes that is slightly more powerful than the FX chip 2

but it wasnt barely used cuz the playstation and N64 and sega saturn is comming out

and so clearly only 1 game used the chip

i forgot what the game was called but it would be awesome

  • I read about on wiki but it seems it was used for a rather boring looking puzzle game. the sfx 2 wasn't used much either. check out the cancelled star fox 2 and commanche which were supposed to use it. star fox 2 is fully playlable even.

  • @nooblet911 no no the FX 2 was used multiple time

    on doom

    star-fox

    and much more

but those the only games that i know used the fx 2 chip

someone did gave me a list of snes games that used the fx2 chip but i accidently deleted

(and no i do not use facebook)

  • sfx 2 was used in doom, yoshi's island (sprite scaling) and winter gold. it should be used in star fox 2 and some other games too but they didn't make it.

  • @nooblet911 FX2 on yoshi's island

and the gameplay doesnt even look as good as sonic the hedgehog and the genesis is less powerful than SNES

  • well that's a matter of taste. yoshi's island uses hand-drawn graphics. the fx chip was more used for sprite scaling (see bosses).

  • @nooblet911 sonic was hand drawn and used for sprites too

  • @killkenny5000 That's is not actually true. The Megadrive was way faster processor wise. And at the time, that was way more important than graphic-related tricks.

  • @TheDjoetma the guy that i was replying to was wondering what would duke nukem would look on snes

    SNES handles better quality

while the sega genesis handles more gameplay and music instruments + colors

so yes the genesis does have a faster processor but since they never used the FX chip they cant get better quality than the SNES

and that is why doom on snes looked like doom cuz they used the FX2 chip

  • @killkenny5000 uh...,what? snes sound processor had way more instruments than the genesis.and what do you mean by more gameplay? you mean you played the gen more?

  • @2frenchfrog LOL either your a little kid or a dumbass since you just now noticed gameplay LOL

gameplay is the way the game was made gameplay is part of frame rate (which it deals lag) speed and control

gameplay is the most important thing for games it even way more important than graphics

    4 main things about games

    gameplay-graphics-sound and information

  • @killkenny5000 ...............................pfffffftLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOOL!!!! your a fucking retard.the genesis is inferior in every way.its already proven, dont want to verify? thats fine.never a shortage of degenerate retards on YT.heres a little math for you,if I was 9 when I got my genesis, and super nintendo hadnt come out yet, around what age would I be?your comments are the stupidest ive ever read...anywhere.this isnt the special olympics, scooter.

  • @2frenchfrog

the snes has better quality for music and graphics (but they also had a secret weapons called the FX chip)

but the sega genesis handles more gameplay

the processor from genesis makes games go faster (which that explain of sonic the hedgehog) and faster music and handles more music instruments

compare the music with castlevania dracula x on snes and sonic 3 & knuckles on sega genesis

i have both gaming systems and they both still work great

  • @killkenny5000 ...............................

  • @killkenny5000 besides, your argument is riddled with contradiction and ridiculus stupidity.the snes handles better quality, but genesis has better gameplay!?!?,just what the fuck are you blithering about? tell you what,I DARE you to tell me what kind of sound chip is in the genesis, along with its specifications and capabilities, then tell me what kind of sound chip is in snes, plus specs, and explain to me,moron, why having less audio channels, actually means more? idiot.

  • @2frenchfrog LOL so you had teh genesis and you still sounds like a KID and i was not even arguing with you in the 1st place

all you just did is randomly started arguing with me for no damn reason

and ive been saying snes has better quality before you started arguing LOL xD

i have 16 gaming systems at my house (including WII-360-PS3)

i still have the old original NES (nintendo entertainment system)

i even have a failed system called the 3DO

  • @2frenchfrog and you never even heard of GAMEPLAY and all the sudden you started using the word GAMEPLAY against me???

  • @2frenchfrog oh yeah next time MAKE SOME DAMN VIDEO's noob

  • @killkenny5000 ROFL!!! I love you tube.dont even watch tv anymore.

  • @2frenchfrog not even your very own gaming system's

  • @nooblet911 well i believe all games back then were hand drawn and used for sprites while all modern games are all done on computer

  • @killkenny5000 DOOM ON SNES IS TERRIBLE

  • @BroNsisGaming i kinda like doom on snes

it was most accurate to the PC until DOOM 3 collector's edition on xbox and doom on xbox 360 came out

its got 22 levels straight from the PC with ALL bosses and secret levels and weapons and almost got ALL the music in there that's been improved

the only flaws is bad graphics, no circle strafe, alittle choppy, 1 sided sprites

but then again once you keep on playing it its pretty playable and also 16-bit at it's best :)

  • this is so retro

  • I remember this.... Still the worst port of a game Ever!!!

  • @DrN0OB So, are you comparing it to todays standards? Or are you saying this from experience playing the game when it was released in 1996? One thing I hate is when kids who think that FPSes(Doom and Duke Nukem for example) would look the same on a 16 bit console compared to a computer.

  • @DukeNukem2020 I'm 27 years old and in 1996 I played the real DukeNukem3d on a 486 running windows 95. All I am saying is when I was a kid the sega version was a disappointment. Now that I am older & know about technology I understand the limitations but as an adult I do not think they should have even bothered with how bad the port was. I mean Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle arcade to NES at least had the same levels and structure. this had nothing from the game except sprites.

  • @DrN0OB As long as you're not comparing this game to Halo Reach, which alot of kids do.

  • @DrN0OB what would you expect from Sega Genesis??

  • @MaarioS Not expecting anything from sega genesis, I just think they should not have even attempted the port!

  • @DrN0OB Don't look at it as a port. See it as more of an adaptation. I find it quite impressive for a genesis game. Of course it's not the real deal but honestly I would have expected much worse. This is running on 1988 hardware. And it has most of the original weapons so it's cool!

  • @DrN0OB what about sonic genesis on the gba?

  • @DrN0OB The Sega Saturn version is a lot worse. It is dark, 2 second delay from the controllers, and freezing a lot.

  • Nice game!

  • They could have developed this for the 32X and gotten more accurate-to-the-PC-version results.

  • the space suit actually survived in this!

  • I didn't like this game. The pixels were a bit too much pixels to be honest. It was like playing DooM on the GBA. It was fun to play but you have to pay attention to what your doing or you fucked up the level.

Wolfenstien 3D if you kinda think of it.

Sadly it's episode 2 but an arranged verison.

  • looks pretty cool for the genesis

  • if this was on the genesis UNLICENSED imagine wat if wolf3d was brought onto the genesis LICENSED

  • @yerbaguy420 it would look better than snes port and no censorship

  • @yerbaguy420 Not sure if this was a unlicensed game because I bought it at Walmart here in Brazil few years ago.

  • dat_framerate

    nice tho :P

  • It should have came out on the 32x

  • Still better than Duke Nukem Forever.

  • im a sega fanboy, but Doom on the snes looks loads better.

  • @azb0111

Yeah, although it had the benefit of the Super FX2 chip. If they used the Genesis equivalent, the SVP, I wonder just what they could have done with it.

  • This is pretty much Duke Nukem on a hacked Wolfenstein 3D engine.

  • this was only released in south america i heard

  • Probably could of done floor texture.

  • This port is better than Super Nintendo's Doom port.Doom couldn't be ported perfectly to Super Nintendo, but the audio is awesome. However it's a surprise that Duke Nukem 3D on the Mega Drive looks this awesome, and the audio is not bad!But of course, Doom's audio in the Super Nintendo is better. But that's normal, because it had a better audio hardware. But graphically, it's surpassed(and I think the Super Nintendo had a better graphic hardware, compared to the Mega Drive too).Love them both :)

  • @rsdestroy not really...doom had most of the levels. This is NOTHING like Duke Nukem 3D besides the graphcis and sounds.

  • @xxhennersxx That's what I've said. But thanks for telling me it had more levels.I didn't knew that.Peace.Ohh and Doom on the SNES, still has better audio than this version of Duke Nukem 3D, on the Sega Genesis. That's my opinion of course.

  • @rsdestroy yeah. the audio on SNES Doom was pretty good. This is an (unofficial) port of Duke Nukem. It doesn't have free look, has like 4 levels. It's nothing like Duke Nukem 3D.

  • @xxhennersxx Damn that was a fast reply lol.Yeah, I've suspected it was an unofficial port of Duke Nukem.Still it's not bad lol.Ohh and I know Doom's SNES version, in the audio department, was awesome, because I saw the AVGN review about Doom(on the Jaguar I think). And he compared them both.Believe it or not, I never owned a Nintendo.I had a cousin who had one though. My console evolution was like this lol : PC/SEGA Master System/Sega Mega Drive/Genesis/PSX/PS2&Gamecube/PS3&PSP.

  • @rsdestroy i wouldn't even call this a port. They hacked another FPS, made some wolfenstien style levels, and put Dukes graphics in.

  • @xxhennersxx No, I am not a fan boy lol, but only recently I could afford more than one video game system. And the only reason I never owned a Nintendo, is because I live in Europe(island of S.Miguel/Azores/Portugal), and over here, SEGA was more famous, then Sony when it first showed up.But the SEGA Saturn won the first 2 rounds(from 95 through 97 lol). Then the amazing SONY PSX smashed.Peace ;)

  • @xxhennersxx Ohhh ok...no disrespect, but you were the one who called it port first lol.Don't worry, I understood it lol.

  • @xxhennersxx This is official game licensed by sega for brazilian genesis called mega drive!!!!

  • @tonmasboy It's NOT official. It's officially made by Tec-Toy but when 3D Realms was asked about it they said they didn't give permission.

  • Wow I never even knew it was on the Mega Drive!

This is pretty impressive, smooth frame rate too. :-)

  • Proof that Genesis really DOES what Nintendon't!

  • @SouthwesternEagle arent you forgetting about doom?

  • @awesomeorobot No. I know about 32x and SNES DOOM. SNES DOOM is ok, but it isn't smooth at all. Great music, but terrible framerate. This game demonstrated above seems to defy logic. If DOOM could run this smoothly on SNES at full screen, then I'd be completely convinced that SNES is better.

  • i remember how mad i was when i was playing this LOL it was hard and it made go insane! i love it

  • was this out?

more like wolfenstein with dukenukem3d textures though but anyway

with some asm things could work really nice

  • NO STRAFING, how do u not get shot once u make eye contact with enemies? Fail for controles man. exciting to see this though

  • looks awesome

  • Still better than Duke Nukem Forever.

  • Don't doubt tec toy. They wanted their little genesis to last as long as it could.

  • Well this looks identical to the wolf3d engine, which ran with 286 cpus...

  • this aint so bad but doom had a better genesis port

  • @GamerMGO Doom had the 32x, though. This is with no 32x or anything.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 yeah your right i had forgot about the 32x

  • @GamerMGO It's still better then the SNES, though. Wolf 3d for the SNES was crappy, because it lacked any chips, while Doom had to use a Super FX. Oh, and someone did make a 100% port of Wolf 3d to the 32x, but without music.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 the wolf3d on 32x is fake

he said so i think but i know it was fake

but i dont think the wolf3d port on snes is crappy the controls is rly good just the bad graphics that gives it away and also censored + 30 levels and bosses

  • @killkenny5000 No it's not, there is a ROM on Sega-16 forums. It's real, and runs in KEGA Fusion and Gens, and on the real console with a flashcart.

  • @killkenny5000 And thus Super Noah's Ark 3D was born!!

  • @TheMattchu1212 but only on PC and snes

well the PC version has texture on roof and floor which it has better graphics than wolf3d + harder bosses

  • @TheMattchu1212 oh no, not THAT game... -.-

  • The music is very familiar from the first level, can anybody tell what is it supposed to be?

  • Made in Brazil

  • THE SNES NEEDED AN FX CHIP TO RUN DOOM, HOW THE FUCK DID THEY GET IT ON THE GENNY!?

  • Need a 32X port.

  • I saw this cartridge on ebay and thought I was looking at a fake or something...

  • Not THAT bad for Genesis. I'd like to smack whoever remixed (butchered!) Grabbag, the opening theme. That is honestly the WORST I've ever heard, and there's no excuse. I could remix it better myself, with Genesis hardware.

  • @Orpheusftw I don't think the hardware MIDI was that advanced at the time...

  • I played an emulator of this. Woulda sucked playing this with the genesis controller. Only 3 buttons.

  • @euvi85 Actually, sometime in the 90's Sega released a six button controller for the Genesis.

  • Its not like Duke to be so quiet.

  • Prototype ROM

  • @nviso209

Actually no, this was released exclusively in Brazil. Brazil got a couple of exclusive Genesis games, most of them were just ports of Game Gear ones.

  • Любимая игра на сеге ,до сих пор играю,игра на века

  • Thank Brazil for this game. If you actully liked it..

  • the textures are great but the controls are awful though

  • its all that blast processing i says

  • @Rawrgazim lolol

  • Megadrive is a K-I-C-K-A-S-S console

  • Looks like Duke Nukem mixed with Wolfenstein 3D. Dukenstein 3D. :)

  • lameduke is better than this

  • mmmm its great but it gives a headach

  • you can tell they had a bloody good go at makin a port for the sega

  • Much better than Doom 32x :p

  • this game is absolutely terrible! painfully hard too!

  • Tec Toy ? was this made in Brazil ?

  • @Subiromba yes and only released there

  • Video title will mislead Americans.

  • funny how a lot of people say how awesome this looks given the fact that it's the sega genesis. Well guess what everyone? IT SUCKS!!! the controls are slow, no strafing, the graphics suck although I guess you can forgive, but everything about this port is broken.

  • Why do giant fortune cookies fly out and smash on the ground every time you hit someone?

  • @rottingmeatman oops wrong video

  • impressive that a raycaster on the genesis ran so well

  • It looks playable enough for me

And the music from the level is'nt bad at all

I love it how all enemy's make the same noise when they die

    Especially the Octabrain XD

    WRAAAH! instead of: Uhwhuhu

  • pretty damn impressive, considering the given hardware. :)

  • @realcatgirllover It’s easier to believe if you take into account that it is not real 3d, that is there are no polygons only 2d textures that are scaled to create the appearance of 3d. It’s like an advanced form of mode 7. Quite effective though I must admit.

  • Comment removed

  • WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS UP WITH THE FUCKING SHITTY MUSIC????? Thats why I play it on PC.

  • The Genesis version of "Duke 3D" had a processor in the cartridge to do those effects, since the console was unable to render those effects on it's own. The 32X is a different matter. It basically was a hardware upgrade to the Genesis, but you had to buy 32X games to take advantage of it. Put it this way, the 32X was the console equivalent of putting a V6 engine in a 4 cylinder car.

  • @alucard1931 Only 1 game on the genesis had a co-processor, that was VR Racing. Duke Nukem 3D, Zero Tolerance and Blood-Shot all ran on the regular hardware.

  • @Disthron Well then someone really taxed the Genesis's hardware limits.

  • @alucard1931 Hmm... I guess, I'd say that Zero Tolerance pushed it a bit further but maybe it's just that ZT is a better designed game.

  • looks alot like wolfenstein 3d!

  • Did anyone find this game very very hard?

  • actually impressive for the old genesis

  • Hahaha oh jesus.

  • It looks like a Mod of the Wolfenstien engine.. I know that for the PC and more advanced consoles, 3D Realms had their own engine, which was similar to Doom but a bit more advanced.

  • @lizichell2

yep, 3DRealms (Previously known as Apogee) had Ken Silverman make the Build Engine, which had quite a few features that the Doom engine didn't, such as the ability to have rooms over rooms (this was a hack, though, it wasn't really 3d floors).

  • Wow, looks TERRIBLE! This is an insult to the game.

  • @soundtheology And yet, at the same time, given that it IS a Genesis, it's an impressive achievement. The majority of weapons and monsters are present in the footage with attacks intact. Animations and sounds(but no voice for Duke) are present and correct.

  • @Bloodlyshiva Agreed. This is not a highly accurate port of the PC version, but I didn't even think the Genesis was able to do handle that. Actually I still have a hard time believing the small Genesis really IS doing this.

  • @Liam2048 There were a couple of other FPSs on the Genesis, check out Zero Tollerence and Bloodshot to check them out. There is a rumor that ZT had a co-prossesor but that isn't true, it was all done in software.

  • @Liam2048

You can look into if you like, most likely it uses the Virtua Processor.

(Sega's Answer to nintendo's FX chip which was actually more than 2x powerful than nintendo's counterpart but never got too see much Light)

  • @Liam2048 Well it isn't that impressive since they had Doom on the genesis

  • @Liam2048 ever seen sonic 3D blast on genesis

  • @killkenny5000 As nice looking as the game is, it's not that impressive, it's still just a 2D isometric game and it's all still all 2D sprites, just drawn in such a way that they LOOK 3D. While this, in itself, is also psuedo-3D it has proper 3D movement and is a *lot* more resource intensive.
