I think the main problem was that he talked too fast. Irons drew out every word, and put emotion into it. Horan just kind of said it, and way too fast. The words were even different from the movie, so I think that too is a problem. Plus the music, didn't fit at all.
When you think about it, Jeremy Irons has a VERY unique voice. I mean really, his voice is synonymous with Scar. The inflections and "dips" and overall suaveness of his voice can't be easy to master.
I think his acting let him down more than anything. He totally failed to capture the feel of Scar. Honestly, if they'd gotten someone with a totally different sounding voice to Jeremy Irons, but who could capture Scar successfully in the tone and phrasing, I think it'd have worked better. :\

every person in the game did a bad job. Scar was voiced by James Horan, Simba was voiced by Cam Clarke who was Simba's singing voice in the second movie, Nala was voiced somebody nobody's heard of, same with Timon, and the only person they got right was Pumbaa who was voiced by Ernie Sabella in both the game and movie

Wow, that was really different. But in all fairness Jeremy Irons is a really tough act to follow. They probably figured it would be cheaper to just go with a voice rather than try to find someone that matched Jeremy's as close as could be done.

They did it to all the Disney movies in the KH games. They tweaked them to where they could fit into the game properly. It's not meant to be official canon or anything, it's just meant to go with the game's storyline.
Then they should use different lines imo. Using the same words but with a totally different feel to them because of the way they're said, just makes it feel like screwed-up canon :P
And to rawtoast: Agreed. "Must this all end in violence" was a wily, sarcastic line at first--not something said in desperation. And that's just a single example out of this. Terrible dubbing, terrible acting, terrible directing.
Sure I got a bit irritated, but I understand the difficulties. The words are limited because the lip movements were first done in japanese so they couldn't use the exact english words, and considering the time gap between the movie and game it'll be hard to get the original actors back. The only thing that bugged me was the lack of fire and storm, and Simba's voice, sounds too young. Overall, a good game
Eh quit whining. Lucky they even PUT THE LION KING CHARACTERS in there. Sure they could of just put the same soundtrack, BUT copyrights, or anyother possobilities (s/p?)could of prevented them from using the original soundtrack. Bunch of whiners. But thanks anyway.

You've got to remember they did the Japanese version first so they have to try and do as much lip sinc as possible. They even had to use simba singing voice actor instead of his real one. Though I have to agree I prefered Scar's origanal voice.
Yea, everyone's voice in the pride lands part of KH stunk, even Rafiki's in some parts. The only good characters were the hyenas and they really don't have a big part. Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Pete were obviously good.
Simba lacked emotion, Scar's voice sounded sorta like Sora. I mean seriously LOOK at Sora's cubby form, then listen to his voice and spaz as much as me. If I were the person who made the Pridelands I would've taken that part of the movie and dubbed it into the game. Did anyone else get bugged when you entered Rafiki's cavern? It's in a tree not at the side of Priderock. Anywho, I love Kingdom Hearts 2 and the Lion King 1, 2 and 1.5 so... I notice this kinda stuff too.
I agree. Even Jim Cummings would have done a better job. Simba was irritating aswell and so wooden like. Maybe Cam Clarke should only Sing as Simba (We are one in lion king 2) not speak as simba. The fight scene lacked drama without the fire background. And the stampede scene in this game sucked aswell.
It sounded the exact same but the timing and emotion were completely off I agree that some of these scenes make me wonder why I ever watched the movie, but this is a long game and they don't have time to look over every last thing.

Get over it. Almost none of the worlds truly stick to the original movie storyline in the game. Hell, the Beauty and the Beast world took off a major character that affected the plot and turn of events in the film. I HAPPEN TO BE A BIG FAN OF THE MOVIE but am not complaining because I still had fun with it.
Disney, while reprise a lot of original VAs, had at least ONE character for EACH world that did not reprise their roles.

Actually , Simba wasn't his original VA. only , Pumbaa , Banzai , ed , and Rafiki were voiced by their original Va's. Everyone else was done by someone else.
I liked the POTC cast , Sebastian was OK..Genie was spot on , as usual.
If I'm correct, I think Genie's voice actor is the same guys who does in Return of Jafar and the TV series. Dan Casta-something also does Homer Simpson's voice too.
For the POTC world the only person that reprised their role was Orlando Bloom and I know that the other voices did kinda suck.Excapt for Jack Sparrow's voice his really sucked it was the lamest(it made him almost uncool).
Orlando Bloom did not reprise his role. Will was voiced by Crispin Freeman but it was a pretty good impression of him. Orlando Bloom, along with Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly, and Geoffry Rush were way too busy filming Dead Man's Chest and At World's End back to back. You get used to Jack Sparrow and Barbossa's voices. At least with them you know that the actors are really trying. But it was a lost cause with Elizabeth. "Ahoy Mateys!" My ears were bleeding. TT_TT
I think he/she gets the impression you were bashing the game. But it is true that it's something that needs to get over with. Scar's voice sucked, Scar12, but I hope you realize some characters did reprised their roles. Simba and Pumbaa are one of them. Mufusa in the game ACTUALLY had ripped audio from the movie. The Hyeanas were done by the original VAs except for the female one. Whoopie Goldberg didn't do it, but the woman that does Daisy Duck did her role in Timon and Pumbaa TV series.

I first checked out Wikipedia.org, then TV.com. Still doubtfull I Sat throw the the ending a second time and Recorded the credits onto DVD just so I could freeze frame and see who it was.
Your actually way off base with the Jim Cumming remark its actually James Horan, Not Jim Cumming that Voiced him. In any case they didn't even use Matthew Brodric, Jeremy Irons, David Boreanez, Eddie Murphy, and a Handful of others. Jim Cummings Scar is pretty close though. While they didn't do the best casting they still did a fairly decent job with the new voice actors. Seifer and Sephiroth especially.
umm....That was Definetly not Jim Cummings as Scar in the game.....I think you are confused.....Jim Cummings did the voice in the movie at the end of Scars song (notice the singing change) and also in Scars breif appearence in Lion King 2.......but he was Definetly not Scar in KH2.....it didn't sound anything like him....or his impression of Scar....go listen to the song Be Prepared at the end....where Jim Impersonates Jeremy....it's nothing like this......

While the acting is rather crappy (throughout that whole scene), let's all take into account that they chopped up the original story, and the game was originally Japanese. With Mufasa, it looks like they made a much better attempt at matching Simba's mouth with the actor, but with Scar, it's mostly open-and-close lip synching. In other words, Scar got shafted.

Wow, that was really different. But in all fairness Jeremy Irons is a really tough act to follow. They probably figured it would be cheaper to just go with a voice rather than try to find someone that matched Jeremy's as close as could be done.

Really, the casting for Scar isn't that surprising since from "You won't get a sniff without me!" to the end of the Be Prepared song is all Cummings. But still, they need to try harder

They did it to all the Disney movies in the KH games. They tweaked them to where they could fit into the game properly. It's not meant to be official canon or anything, it's just meant to go with the game's storyline.

Sure I got a bit irritated, but I understand the difficulties. The words are limited because the lip movements were first done in japanese so they couldn't use the exact english words, and considering the time gap between the movie and game it'll be hard to get the original actors back. The only thing that bugged me was the lack of fire and storm, and Simba's voice, sounds too young. Overall, a good game

It's not that bad, I mean the game was basically a decade after the movie.
In KH2, Nala's voice sounds very similar to Vixen from 'Animals of Farthing Wood'... don't you think?
Scar's voice lacks emphasis on some of the words... And why is he always smiling...? That's creepy. He looks happy when he sees Simba on the rock.
Simba sounds younger to me, but at least I could imagine the voice being Simba's. The other two voices I couldn't imagine being them.

Good god, the KH2 version of the Lion King makes me gag. Square Enix could have done a much better job. NONE of the voices fit, and the graphics were just...UGHH >.<

Personaly I thought he sounds better in the 2nd visit when he's a ghost because you aren't comparing it to what he says in the movie.
A little off-topic: But speaking of 2nd visit in pride lands remember when Sora Donald and Goofy are dubbing themselves over the Scar Ghost, I laughed my ass off when Goofy said "Worried by a silly ol' ghost".

You've got to remember they did the Japanese version first so they have to try and do as much lip sinc as possible. They even had to use simba singing voice actor instead of his real one. Though I have to agree I prefered Scar's origanal voice.

Yea, everyone's voice in the pride lands part of KH stunk, even Rafiki's in some parts. The only good characters were the hyenas and they really don't have a big part. Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Pete were obviously good.

Simba lacked emotion, Scar's voice sounded sorta like Sora. I mean seriously LOOK at Sora's cubby form, then listen to his voice and spaz as much as me. If I were the person who made the Pridelands I would've taken that part of the movie and dubbed it into the game. Did anyone else get bugged when you entered Rafiki's cavern? It's in a tree not at the side of Priderock. Anywho, I love Kingdom Hearts 2 and the Lion King 1, 2 and 1.5 so... I notice this kinda stuff too.

I agree. Even Jim Cummings would have done a better job. Simba was irritating aswell and so wooden like. Maybe Cam Clarke should only Sing as Simba (We are one in lion king 2) not speak as simba. The fight scene lacked drama without the fire background. And the stampede scene in this game sucked aswell.

It sounded the exact same but the timing and emotion were completely off I agree that some of these scenes make me wonder why I ever watched the movie, but this is a long game and they don't have time to look over every last thing.

I'm really looking forward to kingdom hearts 2 and everything, but I do have a gripe about the game; in some retelling of famous scenes from the movies, it kinda...butchers them. I'll still get it...as for the voice, it sounded like him, but wuld have been better if the emphasis was put on the same words like in the movie, like the words "and now everyone knows why!"...it was just said normally rather than "and now, everyone knows WHY!". But whatever, thats just my two cents.

Get over it. Almost none of the worlds truly stick to the original movie storyline in the game. Hell, the Beauty and the Beast world took off a major character that affected the plot and turn of events in the film. I HAPPEN TO BE A BIG FAN OF THE MOVIE but am not complaining because I still had fun with it.
Disney, while reprise a lot of original VAs, had at least ONE character for EACH world that did not reprise their roles.

Actually , Simba wasn't his original VA. only , Pumbaa , Banzai , ed , and Rafiki were voiced by their original Va's. Everyone else was done by someone else.
I liked the POTC cast , Sebastian was OK..Genie was spot on , as usual.

If I'm correct, I think Genie's voice actor is the same guys who does in Return of Jafar and the TV series. Dan Casta-something also does Homer Simpson's voice too.

For the POTC world the only person that reprised their role was Orlando Bloom and I know that the other voices did kinda suck.Excapt for Jack Sparrow's voice his really sucked it was the lamest(it made him almost uncool).

Orlando Bloom did not reprise his role. Will was voiced by Crispin Freeman but it was a pretty good impression of him. Orlando Bloom, along with Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly, and Geoffry Rush were way too busy filming Dead Man's Chest and At World's End back to back. You get used to Jack Sparrow and Barbossa's voices. At least with them you know that the actors are really trying. But it was a lost cause with Elizabeth. "Ahoy Mateys!" My ears were bleeding. TT_TT

I think he/she gets the impression you were bashing the game. But it is true that it's something that needs to get over with. Scar's voice sucked, Scar12, but I hope you realize some characters did reprised their roles. Simba and Pumbaa are one of them. Mufusa in the game ACTUALLY had ripped audio from the movie. The Hyeanas were done by the original VAs except for the female one. Whoopie Goldberg didn't do it, but the woman that does Daisy Duck did her role in Timon and Pumbaa TV series.

By Simba repising his role, you mean young Simba right? Because adult Simba was originally voice by Matthew Brodrick and he was voiced by the same dude that voiced Leonardo in the old Ninja Turtles cartoons and voiced Simba on Timon & Pumbaa for KH2.

Your actually way off base with the Jim Cumming remark its actually James Horan, Not Jim Cumming that Voiced him. In any case they didn't even use Matthew Brodric, Jeremy Irons, David Boreanez, Eddie Murphy, and a Handful of others. Jim Cummings Scar is pretty close though. While they didn't do the best casting they still did a fairly decent job with the new voice actors. Seifer and Sephiroth especially.

umm....That was Definetly not Jim Cummings as Scar in the game.....I think you are confused.....Jim Cummings did the voice in the movie at the end of Scars song (notice the singing change) and also in Scars breif appearence in Lion King 2.......but he was Definetly not Scar in KH2.....it didn't sound anything like him....or his impression of Scar....go listen to the song Be Prepared at the end....where Jim Impersonates Jeremy....it's nothing like this......

While the acting is rather crappy (throughout that whole scene), let's all take into account that they chopped up the original story, and the game was originally Japanese. With Mufasa, it looks like they made a much better attempt at matching Simba's mouth with the actor, but with Scar, it's mostly open-and-close lip synching. In other words, Scar got shafted.
