  • Now you need to use a remote microphone. It would help out dramatically.

  • how much was it

  • Ballistol FTW!

    I love that stuff.

  • From what I see online, this camera has some slow-mo features. You should try those out and make some neat videos. :)

  • random i know but it popped into my head as i watched this film (im cleaning my gun at the moment)

but have u ever looked into a swiss k-31. GREAT straight pull bolt action rifle from about 1920-1950(i dont know the persise dates when the swiss has used it)

in fact its the rifle im cleaning right now. its a beautiful gun and has awesome accuracy. specially for the price. i got mine at a military gun surplus store for 300.

ive read that its hard to find a swiss rifle that has a bad bore in it.

  • @budgray18 also a neat little bit of info if u get one. if u look under that butt plate u will find the soldiers tag that used the rifle. mine had his name, his address, when he was born, his ssn, and what he did in the swiss army.

  • Hey man, I just wanted thank you and your son for all the effort you put into making these videos.

Seriously, I think I speak for all Hickok45 fans, Thank You!!!

    Happy New Year!!!

  • i bought an 870 at a gun show in Maryland a few years back. Its a 1958 police riot in 2 3/4 with 20" barrel. Great shot gun! Thanks for the video!

  • New cam is looking good.

  • so are you gonna shoot the old camera?

  • Awesome vid.

  • Audio seems better also. Doesn't get as muffled after shots fired.

  • Yeah, better quality nice! =)

  • image quality superbe

  • @voltagedrop I agree completely!

  • There is a great answer to the windows movie maker rage, it's called iMovie for Mac. Love your videos Hicock! I'm sure your new computer will work great. Still waiting on my Les Baer TRS. Happy New Year!

  • Good choice with Sony Vegas. The freezing problem is most likely related to the flash memory of the camera.

  • New cam looks great Hickock

  • VirtualDub is well worth learning to use (virtualdub-dot-org). Just my 2p. Great vids, thoroughly enjoy them, keep up the good work.

  • I use the same camera in my videos.. Is great!

  • The problem you are having with the video is with the editing software. Highly recommend an adobe medium end product and/or the higher end product Adobe Premiere. Learning curve can is a little higher but it will provide professional results.

  • lol, Windows Movie Maker Rage. I have experienced my fair share of that.

  • After struggling with Windows Movie Maker for so long and having lost countless hours of work during lock-ups I could easily see where a guy would want to throw a percussion cylinder at his computer. My 30 day trial just ran out on Sony Vegas 9 and my computer is way too slow for HD. What a dilemma, this is cutting into my shooting budget (all my income). Almost computer smashing time again for KGB.

  • I always tell people Apple is the Glock of computers (or Glock is the Apple of guns, depending who I'm talking to).

  • Thx for providing the viewers with the best.

  • Don't listen to these guys. Do NOT shoot your old camera! Send it to someone like myself that would love to have an OK camera. I skateboard (Sponsored) and need to film for my shop. And I also need to film myself shooting..

  • Don't piss John off, He's an important part of the Hickok videos!

  • Sony Candy Yam? Yum! Sounds good!

  • hickok, You should do your next video of shooting the old camera!!!! Niceeee

  • Hey hickok, I was thinking maybe there is a firmware upgrade for your camera on the sony website that will fix the problem your having at the 16min mark. just a thought

  • do you own all the weapons you shoot? and if i may what do you do for a living?

  • you guys shoudl give cyberlink's video editing software. its pretty cheap and you can get stuff done a little cleaner then with windows movie maker.

  • I'd talk to tnoutdoors9 if you need some help with your software stuff. He seems to have gotten it really polished into a science.

  • @rifleslol , We decided on Sony Vegas and like it pretty well.

  • @hickok45 I would also recommend for a future upgrade a microphone for on your shirt or something. Wireless would be preferable considering what you're doing in the majority of the videos. Sometimes when you are further from the camera it's harder to hear what you're saying and some of us hang on every word. Love the videos, still working on watching them all. Keep up the good work!

  • @hickok45 I use Sony Vegas for my videos and love it.

  • I noticed there is no shooting of cool things in this video. I would have been content with at least a knife throw or a slingshot.

  • @WesSeid , It's an FAQ.

  • @hickok45 Oops, that's right, it's the VLOGs I'm thinking of. Just gotten spoiled with Hickok45 blowing stuff up is all, I guess.

  • My camera (Canon Vixia HF11) chops its files at 4GB too, due to the FAT32 file system that it uses, but I've never had this sort of issue. I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.

  • I find it funny how many avid fans of weapons are also 'nerds' in general.. ;)

Comment mostly related to other commenters..

  • Good camera, so wheres the tank. Oh it must be on tnoutdoors9. I will check with him.

  • I assume you final got rid of dial up at the hickok compound? I remember is your early vids you said you had to check youtube at school ;)

  • Okay... great camera... really happy for you guys...!

But... so... okay, can we get back to SHOOTIN' please... pretty please... 8-)

  • Where was the "Life Is Good" sign off - It still is I hope :)

  • @Anchor2012 , It's an FAQ

  • Good choices Hickok45. Hope you had a great Christmas with lots of toys #LOL and Happy New Year to you and John and your family and others in the Hickok compound. #FTW

  • I use Adobe Premiere Elements 7 for my video editing, it doesnt crash or anything, and has a decent amount of effects.

  • The HD Video gives a much sharper picture...keep up the good videos. Happy New Year.

  • hickok! I know u read my request on a vid regarding glock stock sites and aftermarket ones...how about it!?!? I'm thinking maybe ur reluctance comes from the fact that most of ur glocks have stock sites so u can't really do a comprehensive comparo vid. i know u have at least one glock that i've seen with some aftermarket sites on them. the hell with it, just a vid even if it's 4 minutes long with ur thoughts on green, yellow, XS, sites, etc. WE VALUE ur OPINION and INPUT ALWAYS. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

  • Will that laptop hang like a bowling pin? hehe

  • Boy did I open a can o' worms--it was just my 2 cents ?!

  • lmao throwing a percussion cylinder.. wow that made my day. reminds me that i got a few myself a 1863 new pocket rem, and 1858 remington both pretty nice but the but man i got a lot to say about the new pocket one at some point i wanted to throw it's hammer arm at something and the cylinder has dummy safety notches with the right tools i can make em usable but that would ruin the nickle plating.

  • My computer doesn't have enough RAM to watch in 720p HD haha

  • @Chazzy767 ha mine either!

  • How old are you? oh yeah plus i love your vids!

  • You should use the trial version of Sony Vegas.

  • if he doesnt like windows get song vegas editing software its like 60$ its a little complex but im sure you or your son could figure it out

  • Hickok, you need to get a Windows 7 machine running the 64bit version of the Operating system, and upgrade your PC to 4gb or more RAM. That'll allow you to work with files larger than 2gb.

  • no shooting?!?!?

  • It's your video drivers not your computer.

  • I have Sony Vegas, and find it not very user friendly, but very capable software. Now, lets see some slow motion stuff with music. See if that camera will slow the Gen 4 G19 down enough to see that frame flex. I also see that you can not use external mics with that camera. How come you didn’t get a camera with that feature?

  • movie maker rage ... soundsa like a idea for a new video...

  • Windows Movie Maker is very limited, slow, and the quality of WMV MPEG's leaves alot to be desired; they have a cloudy halo effect around the edges. Glad the new HD camera and software is working out. Even if you record at the lower Sony HD settings, the resolution is going to a big improvement over what you were using.

  • Good technical discussion.

  • As someone who owns a video production company, I can say with confidence that Macs are almost invariably better for doing video work. This is an unbiased opinion because I used Windows for years and it was OK but Final Cut (and even the new iMovie!) are just better.

  • We don't care if you use an iPhone to shoot and edit, just keep making them hickok45! Thanks for all your time & effort and keep up the good work.

  • This is good video but the FPS seems low, maybe that's from editing/converting? I had a Sony CX110, it has 25x optical I think the camera you mentioned is a better version though. I'm guessing the quality being a bit less and FPS a little low is to just cut down on space.

  • Sony Vegas and a media converter will fix that problem, most video formats are for storage and are not made for editing, with a video converter you can convert the media to a more manageable format, for HD video in my case it records in H.264 this is a horrible format to edit but a great way to save storage space, with a converter you can change that format to something your video editing software can deal with more efficiently, Sony Vegas is a great editing tool, your son does a great job

  • 1:32 HAHA! You should use Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker is the sorriest excuse for editing software on the face of this planet. You can get it for free if you are interested. I can help you out. Trust me, it will make John's job much easier.

  • you know if there were greater restrictions on acess to percussion revolver cylinders, window's movie maker rage would be a thing of the past!

  • so are you gonna shoot the old camera?

  • The Glock 19 Gen 4 video looked great on the new camera. The only way I can appreciate such firearms from the UK unfortunately. Keep up the good work.

  • whatever you guys use, it looks great. No one needs the communist BS that Mac forces its users to endure to make a quality movie.

  • @zigzagg321321, You know, I was an early Mac lover, but that was before Windows came out. After using Windows for so many years, that's really the impression both John and I were getting as we worked with the Mac for that week. We kept getting frustrated at the "controlling" nature of everything. We couldn't seem to save files anywhere we wanted, on the desktop - drag to external drive and then to another computer, etc. So much more flexibility with Windows.

  • @hickok45 I love my new Macbook, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but I agree with you 100%. Apple wants you to do things their way, and only their way. Depending on what you use your software for though...that can be okay. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I don't edit a ton of complex videos. I just wanted a computer that will do what I need it to do without a ton of input from me. Thankfully, should I ever need it, I can always install windows on my MB...

  • @hickok45 I always love to hear the rubber meets the road reports on Macintoshes. Oh dear, I just realized I'm setting myself up to be hated by the world's biggest liberals! hahahah

  • How about a remote control camera downrange looking back a you???

  • The sony`s are the best

  • lmao i fucking KNEW that as soon as he said they were using "Windows" Machines tons of people would have to sprew out "mac this" and mac that.

  • Roxio creator 2011 works great for me.

  • How much was the camera? I need one for my videos and home use.

  • you should look into Sony Vegas, it is pretty pricy but think of it as buying a new gun thats gonna make all your other guns look better in the end =)

  • @Mo7Vsta , That's what we bought, along with the computer.

  • @hickok45 - Funny how you'd buy Sony Vegas, a top notch piece of editing software, when...you guys do almost zero editing at all! The odd montage video or santa zombie clip might see a few edits, though, I guess.

Anyway, it's a great program. I got their Vegas Movie Stuido, or whatever it's called. It doesn't have every minute detail Vegas Pro does, but it's only a 45 dollar download from their site, so....if you paid more....I'd look into that one. It'll do everything you need.

  • @hickok45 The Pirate Bay, Hickok.

  • @hickok45 Good choice!

  • @hickok45 You'll love vegas, Ive been using it for 7 years. It is by far the best editing software. I have no idea why the industry standard is still avid. There are ways to fix that "glitch" you spoke of. Most likely that was not caused by the camera, but by the computer when trying to render the uncompressed video. Find vegas in the task manager and set the priority to "realtime," should look alot smoother...

  • It looks Phenomenal!

  • sony handy cam is a great camra!

  • AVG has a suite of editing software that is very affordable. I think I paid $50 but you get like 6 or 8 pieces of software and you get permanent upgrades. It has a lot of features for the price.

  • "Windows movie maker" Omg. XDDDD Use Sony Vegas 10, 9, Adobe after effects.

  • @cobolt13 after effects is not for what they are looking for. after effects are for effects not film editing

  • @crazyjd64 Editing is anything, Cutting, UTC morphing, sound, capture trance, so on. effects is just effects. That's what it's called. you can do a lot more then just effects. You must be pretty stupid.

  • Trust me, get a Mac. I cringed when you said windows movie maker.

iMovie will make your life so much easier.

  • @SeraphimHD And that's why mac users are so stupid.

  • @cobolt13 macs>pc

  • @crazyjd64 Maybe on Mars.

  • 8 Straight Hours of Editing as a Noob with Windows Movie Marker, computer crashed, took it out and shot it with an RPK, and then that became a movie:)

  • @MrSKSkill Periodically save project as LOL!

  • 12GA the laptop John.

  • Kudos for using Win Movie Maker to it's maximum potential. It never works on my machine no matter what i do.

I was lucky enough to get AVS Video Editor and it's related programs for next to nothing. They're not the best in the world, but i do the best job i can with what i have. =]

  • Glad you got the new tech Hickok!! Maybe we can look forward to the m4/ar15 cleaning and lubrication video sometime soon? Keep up the killer job!!!

  • I just bought the same camera! Works great. Can't wait to get some new vids uploaded from it.

  • How about a video with the old camera vs a slug?

  • I was pretty surprised that you guys were using Windows Movie Maker. It's NOT a bad program if you keep things simple - as you guys do. Vegas has so many capabilities in it, and it took me a long time to adjust to it. I do like how Vegas will accept nearly any movie format and will render in so many different formats, and at different levels of quality, giving you a lot of flexibility.

    The videos look great!

  • when are you going to do a video on the 357sig vs 357mag??

  • Should have got a toy laptop and a kids toy camera and let Big John have a throw. They say the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. :-) Would have been a great sequel to your cylinder throwing debut. :-P

  • @3006USMC, No more Macs for me! I love the quality of their machines, etc., but too limited in file management and such.

  • @3006USMC Not true at all, Macs have numerous problems.

    1. Over priced

    2. Hardware isn't as good as advertised, In reality their parts are far older than the newest PC parts.

    3. Aren't as compatible with programs like windows is.

    4. Made by apple, They overprice and over hype and over exaggerate everything they make.

Basically you're paying for an outdated PC with a fancy shell and a new OS. Not worth it at all.

  • @TheUSMCE5

IMO "4. Made by apple" isn't actually true. Have you heard of Apple having it's own assembly lines? No, they place orders to producers from China, Taiwan or whatever.

  • @3006USMC Then why does the entire professional film industry use avid/windows... besided imovie isnt even close to the best software for macs, Final Cut blows it out of the water (and it still sucks compared to windows based programs).

  • Good stuff !!

    The videos look great !

  • HAH i foresee this one ;)

  • You could of used a mirror to show the camera.

  • Excellent video & update.

  • Sony Vegas is very good and pretty cheap alternative (and huge improvement) to windows movie maker.

  • Hey Hickok, thanks for all your videos! Have a good Christmas.

  • The camera looks great real clear Thanks

  • Did you get any guns for Christmas?

  • LOL..nice reference to throwing the cylinder at the target hickok =P

  • woo lovely camera love HD, but good lord windows movie maker is terrible it keeps freezing for no reason when there is too much on the programme even though your pc can handle it! GRRR oh well

hope you had a very nice Christmas hickok and crew look forward to a fresh year and fresh videos..and no percussion revolver cylinder throwing haha

    Take care

  • Thanks Hickok for new camera, we were waiting long time.

  • Very nice camera! Windows movie maker is pretty simple but at least its free. Hope y'all had a good Christmas!

  • OH GOD WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER.

You must be the lords of the film to make it work for you guys :D

  • @RunawayDanish , That's what John has used for everything until the last three or four videos.

  • cheers for the update, i can see how John would get the shites with WMM i know i do =] gota say the HD format is outstanding, and John does an fantasic job behind the camera, wish you and yours a Happy and safe New Years, take care.

  • Save Often.

  • The footage is very crisp and nice quality, though windows movie maker loves to "mind f*ck your brain" try the sony vegas trial, excellent software.

  • @Robbaz, That's what we're using on this new computer. Much better.

  • @hickok45 I was always a sony man, then for editing I really got along with Adobe Premiere.Costly option but with the amount of videos you put out I would say it was worth it.

  • Hickok45 in HD. What could be better than that?

  • Thanks for the info. I'm looking at getting a Handycam as well. I know Nutnfancy uses iMovie and a Mac to edit all his vids.... that's why they look "fancy".

  • @supermaucat, Well, we actually bought an iMac about a week before Christmas, but the more we worked with it, the less we liked it. We took it back six days later and traded in on a powerful Windows machine. I started out with an Apple II in 1981 and then a Mac the year they came out (1984), before switching over to Windows in 1993, so I guess I'm just a Windows guy now. It seemed everywhere we turned with the Mac platform that we were limited, or overly controlled, in some way.

  • @hickok45 or overly proprietaryized (new word I made up for Apple and their stuff.) Geeze, just put a stupid USB port on the $500 ipad and stop making people pay $20 more for a stupid adapter. That really chaps my khakis.

  • 5th

  • Second!!!

  • haha, first!! so happy new year wild bill, god bless u and your familiy, love your vids, hope to see you soon again...
