@budgray18 also a neat little bit of info if u get one. if u look under that butt plate u will find the soldiers tag that used the rifle. mine had his name, his address, when he was born, his ssn, and what he did in the swiss army.
There is a great answer to the windows movie maker rage, it's called iMovie for Mac. Love your videos Hicock! I'm sure your new computer will work great. Still waiting on my Les Baer TRS. Happy New Year!
The problem you are having with the video is with the editing software. Highly recommend an adobe medium end product and/or the higher end product Adobe Premiere. Learning curve can is a little higher but it will provide professional results.
After struggling with Windows Movie Maker for so long and having lost countless hours of work during lock-ups I could easily see where a guy would want to throw a percussion cylinder at his computer. My 30 day trial just ran out on Sony Vegas 9 and my computer is way too slow for HD. What a dilemma, this is cutting into my shooting budget (all my income). Almost computer smashing time again for KGB.
Don't listen to these guys. Do NOT shoot your old camera! Send it to someone like myself that would love to have an OK camera. I skateboard (Sponsored) and need to film for my shop. And I also need to film myself shooting..
Hey hickok, I was thinking maybe there is a firmware upgrade for your camera on the sony website that will fix the problem your having at the 16min mark. just a thought
@hickok45 I would also recommend for a future upgrade a microphone for on your shirt or something. Wireless would be preferable considering what you're doing in the majority of the videos. Sometimes when you are further from the camera it's harder to hear what you're saying and some of us hang on every word. Love the videos, still working on watching them all. Keep up the good work!
My camera (Canon Vixia HF11) chops its files at 4GB too, due to the FAT32 file system that it uses, but I've never had this sort of issue. I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.
Good choices Hickok45. Hope you had a great Christmas with lots of toys #LOL and Happy New Year to you and John and your family and others in the Hickok compound. #FTW
hickok! I know u read my request on a vid regarding glock stock sites and aftermarket ones...how about it!?!? I'm thinking maybe ur reluctance comes from the fact that most of ur glocks have stock sites so u can't really do a comprehensive comparo vid. i know u have at least one glock that i've seen with some aftermarket sites on them. the hell with it, just a vid even if it's 4 minutes long with ur thoughts on green, yellow, XS, sites, etc. WE VALUE ur OPINION and INPUT ALWAYS. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
lmao throwing a percussion cylinder.. wow that made my day. reminds me that i got a few myself a 1863 new pocket rem, and 1858 remington both pretty nice but the but man i got a lot to say about the new pocket one at some point i wanted to throw it's hammer arm at something and the cylinder has dummy safety notches with the right tools i can make em usable but that would ruin the nickle plating.
Hickok, you need to get a Windows 7 machine running the 64bit version of the Operating system, and upgrade your PC to 4gb or more RAM. That'll allow you to work with files larger than 2gb.
I have Sony Vegas, and find it not very user friendly, but very capable software. Now, lets see some slow motion stuff with music. See if that camera will slow the Gen 4 G19 down enough to see that frame flex. I also see that you can not use external mics with that camera. How come you didn’t get a camera with that feature?
Windows Movie Maker is very limited, slow, and the quality of WMV MPEG's leaves alot to be desired; they have a cloudy halo effect around the edges. Glad the new HD camera and software is working out. Even if you record at the lower Sony HD settings, the resolution is going to a big improvement over what you were using.
As someone who owns a video production company, I can say with confidence that Macs are almost invariably better for doing video work. This is an unbiased opinion because I used Windows for years and it was OK but Final Cut (and even the new iMovie!) are just better.
This is good video but the FPS seems low, maybe that's from editing/converting? I had a Sony CX110, it has 25x optical I think the camera you mentioned is a better version though. I'm guessing the quality being a bit less and FPS a little low is to just cut down on space.
Sony Vegas and a media converter will fix that problem, most video formats are for storage and are not made for editing, with a video converter you can convert the media to a more manageable format, for HD video in my case it records in H.264 this is a horrible format to edit but a great way to save storage space, with a converter you can change that format to something your video editing software can deal with more efficiently, Sony Vegas is a great editing tool, your son does a great job
1:32 HAHA! You should use Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker is the sorriest excuse for editing software on the face of this planet. You can get it for free if you are interested. I can help you out. Trust me, it will make John's job much easier.
The Glock 19 Gen 4 video looked great on the new camera. The only way I can appreciate such firearms from the UK unfortunately. Keep up the good work.
@zigzagg321321, You know, I was an early Mac lover, but that was before Windows came out. After using Windows for so many years, that's really the impression both John and I were getting as we worked with the Mac for that week. We kept getting frustrated at the "controlling" nature of everything. We couldn't seem to save files anywhere we wanted, on the desktop - drag to external drive and then to another computer, etc. So much more flexibility with Windows.
@hickok45 I love my new Macbook, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but I agree with you 100%. Apple wants you to do things their way, and only their way. Depending on what you use your software for though...that can be okay. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I don't edit a ton of complex videos. I just wanted a computer that will do what I need it to do without a ton of input from me. Thankfully, should I ever need it, I can always install windows on my MB...
@hickok45 I always love to hear the rubber meets the road reports on Macintoshes. Oh dear, I just realized I'm setting myself up to be hated by the world's biggest liberals! hahahah
you should look into Sony Vegas, it is pretty pricy but think of it as buying a new gun thats gonna make all your other guns look better in the end =)
@hickok45 - Funny how you'd buy Sony Vegas, a top notch piece of editing software, when...you guys do almost zero editing at all! The odd montage video or santa zombie clip might see a few edits, though, I guess.
Anyway, it's a great program. I got their Vegas Movie Stuido, or whatever it's called. It doesn't have every minute detail Vegas Pro does, but it's only a 45 dollar download from their site, so....if you paid more....I'd look into that one. It'll do everything you need.
@hickok45 You'll love vegas, Ive been using it for 7 years. It is by far the best editing software. I have no idea why the industry standard is still avid. There are ways to fix that "glitch" you spoke of. Most likely that was not caused by the camera, but by the computer when trying to render the uncompressed video. Find vegas in the task manager and set the priority to "realtime," should look alot smoother...
AVG has a suite of editing software that is very affordable. I think I paid $50 but you get like 6 or 8 pieces of software and you get permanent upgrades. It has a lot of features for the price.
@crazyjd64 Editing is anything, Cutting, UTC morphing, sound, capture trance, so on. effects is just effects. That's what it's called. you can do a lot more then just effects. You must be pretty stupid.
8 Straight Hours of Editing as a Noob with Windows Movie Marker, computer crashed, took it out and shot it with an RPK, and then that became a movie:)
Kudos for using Win Movie Maker to it's maximum potential. It never works on my machine no matter what i do.
I was lucky enough to get AVS Video Editor and it's related programs for next to nothing. They're not the best in the world, but i do the best job i can with what i have. =]
I was pretty surprised that you guys were using Windows Movie Maker. It's NOT a bad program if you keep things simple - as you guys do. Vegas has so many capabilities in it, and it took me a long time to adjust to it. I do like how Vegas will accept nearly any movie format and will render in so many different formats, and at different levels of quality, giving you a lot of flexibility.
Should have got a toy laptop and a kids toy camera and let Big John have a throw. They say the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. :-) Would have been a great sequel to your cylinder throwing debut. :-P
IMO "4. Made by apple" isn't actually true. Have you heard of Apple having it's own assembly lines? No, they place orders to producers from China, Taiwan or whatever.
@3006USMC Then why does the entire professional film industry use avid/windows... besided imovie isnt even close to the best software for macs, Final Cut blows it out of the water (and it still sucks compared to windows based programs).
woo lovely camera love HD, but good lord windows movie maker is terrible it keeps freezing for no reason when there is too much on the programme even though your pc can handle it! GRRR oh well
hope you had a very nice Christmas hickok and crew look forward to a fresh year and fresh videos..and no percussion revolver cylinder throwing haha
cheers for the update, i can see how John would get the shites with WMM i know i do =] gota say the HD format is outstanding, and John does an fantasic job behind the camera, wish you and yours a Happy and safe New Years, take care.
@hickok45 I was always a sony man, then for editing I really got along with Adobe Premiere.Costly option but with the amount of videos you put out I would say it was worth it.
Thanks for the info. I'm looking at getting a Handycam as well. I know Nutnfancy uses iMovie and a Mac to edit all his vids.... that's why they look "fancy".
@supermaucat, Well, we actually bought an iMac about a week before Christmas, but the more we worked with it, the less we liked it. We took it back six days later and traded in on a powerful Windows machine. I started out with an Apple II in 1981 and then a Mac the year they came out (1984), before switching over to Windows in 1993, so I guess I'm just a Windows guy now. It seemed everywhere we turned with the Mac platform that we were limited, or overly controlled, in some way.
@hickok45 or overly proprietaryized (new word I made up for Apple and their stuff.) Geeze, just put a stupid USB port on the $500 ipad and stop making people pay $20 more for a stupid adapter. That really chaps my khakis.
This has been flagged as spam show

@3006USMC Not true at all, Macs have numerous problems.
1. Over priced
2. Hardware isn't as good as advertised, In reality their parts are far older than the newest PC parts.
3. Aren't as compatible with programs like windows is.
4. Made by apple, They overprice and over hype and over exaggerate everything they make.
Basically you're paying for an outdated PC with a fancy shell and a new OS. Not worth it at all.

@TheUSMCE5

Sony Vegas is very good and pretty cheap alternative (and huge improvement) to windows movie maker.

The footage is very crisp and nice quality, though windows movie maker loves to "mind f*ck your brain" try the sony vegas trial, excellent software.

@Robbaz, That's what we're using on this new computer. Much better.

@hickok45 I was always a sony man, then for editing I really got along with Adobe Premiere.Costly option but with the amount of videos you put out I would say it was worth it.

Hickok45 in HD. What could be better than that?

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at getting a Handycam as well. I know Nutnfancy uses iMovie and a Mac to edit all his vids.... that's why they look "fancy".
supermaucat 1 year ago
