My name is Rob Honzell, Sr., PhD and I was the patrol sgt. that night. If you read the offical rerport my namem is in there several times. No one ran away. The gun shots were used as a distraction technique to save American and Okinawan lives. People were attempting to burn others alive in their vehicles. Do your research. Too much bias in your post. Interview people from both sides that were there.
They were enraged by the American presence and the crimes committed by the military... the riots were just a eruption of the boiling blood from the years of that occupation.
im a little surprised that someone actually uploaded a few songs from this album. i have the CD but never got around to publicising it. i got it from my dad and ive always wanted others to hear it also. (cause i know it hasnt really gotten around as much as other albums have) Thanks SO MUCH for uploading this. seriously. i actually just found this just because i just searched it for the random chance thatt someone may have gotten the cd out there.
I was a member of the 62nd MP Co. until my leaving Okinawa in Jun 67. I fondly remember some of the Okinawan people I could call 'friend' and still think of them to this day. I've seen pictures of Okinawa today and would love to see how different it is now.
bloody americans handed over the Ryukyu Islands to the Japs. Okinawans are second class citizens. The americans are instigating Tibetans in China. What do they know about human rights !!
Amazing video! Thank You for this! I lived in Naha, Okinawa around this same time. I was about 10 years old (Dad was in the Air Force). I have to say, some of my fondest memories were formed during my time in Okinawa as a child. We had to move abruptly from Naha to Grant Heights, Japan, and I couldn't understand why. 40 years later, I still find it hard to understand. Okinawa belongs to the Okinawan people, plain and simple!! What a crying shame! I dream about returning to this paradise!
You mean France wanted to try to invade Ryukyu and NOT Ryukyu having a chance to be a "protectorate" of France. Ryukyu never had that kind of power (force), LOL.
Question...when you say the colony of the most ugly war country -- where are you referring to? If Japan, you are a good example of one that has been brainwashed by the Chinese propagandas.
"Back to Japan" is appropriate...'please' dont' be fooled like the majority of innocent Okinawans whom are brainwashed by mainland-Japanese liberals AND Chinese propagandas. I am a product of Okinawa (mother) and US (father -military) -- born and raised on this paradise. God bless Okinawa and I sincerely pray that one day, Okinawans will see a true politician to serve and inspire its people. BTW, I LOVE this re-mix of Kageyadefu.
I meant that Okinawa should belong to Okinawans not Japan. I thought the Ryukans were once independent before being occupied by Japan. It just seemed to me that the people of Okinawa would have more say in what happens to them.
First of all, under the "int'l law" at the time, countries worldwide were divided into three categories. #1 complete independent countries (ie, US, Europe, etc.), #2 countries having unfair treaties w/ countries of #1 (so-called "half-independent countries" -- ie, Japan, China, Turkey, etc.) and #3 colonized countries (ie, India, Vietnam, etc.)...to be cont'd
So what about Ryukyu you ask? Well, Ryukyu was categorized in #3 which was under the rule of BOTH Japan and China. Unfortunately, Ryukyu was never 'completely' indepedent. This is Asian history 101, so it gets a bit hairy so many do not understand the 'true history' of Asia back in the 1400s. I can go on and on but not here...it's inappropriate and I'm sure it'll bore a lot of visitors to this page.
Hello, Great video. I was a Military Policeman involved in the Koza Riot. I pulled the G.I. and his Okinawan girl friend out of the crowd, which enraged them even more. We had agreed to allow the Okinawan police to remove the vehicle involved. It was history after that. That is my overturned Patrol car at 1:53 on the video. The riot helped hasten the Reversion process. I hope to revisit Okinawa this Dec 20, 2010. Ticket@aol.com
thanks for the comment and your insight. It must have been quite intense to be there in the middle of it all. Make sure and revisit the Gate 2 area in December!
@rafique101 Both our governments spend way to many tax $ keeping U.S. troops there. I do try to spread the word here about the injustice that has been served to the Okinawan people for way to long. Most here look at me like I am crazy. Many Americans still have a "Cold War Mentality", and the Japanese Government likes the U.S. there as long as the troops stay on Okinawa. They are afraid of the Chinese. It is difficult for young Japanese to protest against this as they would be Black Listed.
@Bruceeeee1 I think China and Japan can be friends and I think a middleman (US) in the region further complicates relationships. Our empire is falling and seems like the good ol donkeys and elephants driving the military industrial complex don't see their detriment to their OWN people (us here in the US ) and their own selves. Disgusting I say. And thanks for serving America when it was needed.
@Bruceeeee1 I apologize if I came off a bit provocative in my first and consequent posts. Thanks for serving our nation! haha but holy CRAP you guys are leaving us a HUGE mess that me and my generation will have to fix =D
@rafique101 I cannot agree with more. I try to spread the word here about Okinawa and the U.S. Military's need to leave. No one seems to listen. I said as much in the interview and the "Japan Times" article. Our governments still have that cold war mentality. I will keep up the fight here in hopes the U.S. Military will shrink its profile and footprint there in the coming years. The "Koza Riot was and is a big deal there. People here just don't understand.
Was stationed at Kadena Jan 71 to July 72. I loved the Okinawan people. Too bad we gave the Islands to the Japan. (The US said "back to" Japan but there is quite a difference of opinion on that issue)

okinawan , We had a chance to be the Protectorate of France during Ryukyu era .
But , China refused the offer from France ( that was the Cession of Ryukyu ).
France was , is better .
Unfortunately , ......(-_-)still the Colony of the most ugly war country .

the Protectorate of France was , is better than the colony of the war country (U.S.A).
The U.S.A is the only country that has repeated the war since world Ⅱwar.
what a crazy country !
The U.S.A shouldn't talk about the human rights and Life.
How many people has America killed since world Ⅱwar?!
To sow the seed of the war all over the world is U.S.A ' s bussiness .
YAKUZA country (-_-)
