Thanks for posting the great Baja Marimba/Maxwell House coffee TV spots! I've been a 16mm collector for about 20 years. Have yet to find these TV spots on 16mm yet, nor any of the Scoptiones or kinescopes that Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass did. Best wishes to Ira, Hunter Mann, founder/programmer/projectionist of Highway Cinema
@auldsk8r Blasphemy! Maxwell House made America great! Back when EVERYBODY drank coffee! Before Starbucks started pushin' that high-priced snake oil! Real coffee is for the old school. They started their day on it and went out and worked from sun up till sun down, worked the 9 to 5 and fulfilled the Protestant work ethic! That gourmet, special blend stuff is not in the same class, it's just for sittin' around and sippin', not for workin' cattle drives or bringin' law to the west!
Second spot:"How does coffee drinkers feel about new Maxwell House coffee?" Well, how does English teachers feel about the misuse of the singular "does" in place of the plural "do"? How dids this gets buy the copy writer?
@jimac51 Oh, it's not likely the copy writer's fault. I suppose the voice-over actor may be to blame, then the editor for not catching it. Seems like a light mistake considering the age of semi-literacy we know live in..."Got Milk"? Ouch!
Ira: I used to watch your "Biograph Days, Biograph Nights" on late-night cable in NY, and saw your video re: cataloging your virtual library of material. From one Baby Boomer to another - thanks so much for these treasures!
They were an opening act for herb Alpert and eventually went on to make quite a few albums of their own. They were all Hollywood studio musicians (npt really Mexican)..but damn great musicians with a hilarious act! . Julius did all the arrnagements and thats him on lead marimba. Several other Baja Marimba Vids on youtube.
IF YOU Google "Baja marimba band"..they do have their own website (via the A&M website)
funny though, i don't recall my bro-in-law saying, ''man, that's coffee'' after making the morning brew while on vacation...hmmm, maybe because there weren't any donuts to go along with a cup of Don Francisco...thanks for this nostolgia...it's an awesome clip!

This seems more like 1970, not 1980.

What's the "1980" in the title for? These commercials were obviously made circa 1967.
