@friederich66 I truly adore Schlusnus as the smoothest baritone of the past which I ever heard. But: Hotter was a bass-baritone. He also sings this tune one tone deeper (here in the quite unusual key of Db major) than Schlusnus. So, it's not really possible to compare Hotter with Schlusnus in my opinion, as it is a bit apples to pears. For my taste, Hotter had kind of a harsh, not fully resonating voice. I prefer Schlusnus in terms of sound. But nevertheless: Hotter's HOT ;-)
O how beautiful is your world, Father, when she shines with golden beams! When your gaze descends And paints the dust with a shimmering glowing, When the red, which flashes in the clouds, Sinks into my quiet window! How could I complain, how could I be afraid? How could anything ever be amiss between you and me? No, I will carry in my breast Your Heaven for all times. And this heart, before it breaks down, Shall drink in the glow and the light
My favourite singer brings my favourite song by my favourite composer: how can't I be happy? :-)

A sublime song, sublimely sung.
Two other vintage performances also demand to be heard:
Lotte Lehmann and Karl Erb.
But Hotter takes the palm.

Hans Hotter's voice has this 'golden shine' of Lappe's Abendrot.
Thanks for having posted this.
