Black slave from Africa brought this tradition to the new world and today there are several countries that have this platillo several countries recognize it as typical food, the same thing cooks in Jamaica ,Louisiana USA or Cuba.
Gallo pinto dosen't taste good with black beans, That why is called gallo pinto because you cook it with red beans. And that's why is originaly from Nicaragua.
@Vedesh It's prety simple actually. Go to the store, buy a "bag" of small red beans. Put them in a pot (at night) covered by water. Next day, just put them to boil for about an hour to an hour and a half. Like on the video, the gallopinto comes out better with precooked rice (not hot).
Y la chiltoma? Well only a genuine Nica knows the secret ingredient once its almost done... I am not gonna say what it is but just remember it has to be tostadito or toasty once its dry...
@lilmari14u can u please tell me how to really do gallo pinto???? i keep trying but it doesnt quite look like gallo pinto..... i want it to look the way it looks at the fritangas..please help.
Gallo pinto is best with those beans, cause with black beans it just tastes like black beans and rice, go Nicaragua!
