fail the roll comprimised the patients airway by putting them underwater. fail as approach was to slow and created to much disturbance at the scene. Fail in support of victim while doing clamp. Fail in loss of immobilization when placing head block.
good start now practice more and change technique and you'll get that time down by at least a 1/5.
Don't let the geeks get you down. Training is different but is also standardised. The principals are the important thing as real life is never the same!
watching this made me think that there was too much on the speed and not on the tech side of this exersize. in real life with the way that the board was lifted out of the water would of resulted in injury to the LGs and the casutly as sliding the board flat as posable would of reduse the change of droping it.
@skatr08 you asked how the turn is wrong, saying you can't go the other way. I'm saying that to go other way, you go under them. I understand it's different everywhere, I've been guarding for years through 3 different certifications.
This is wrong and im so disgusted youtubeshould have in big capitals on HOW NOT TO DO A SPINAL RESCUE. THINK about the 4 Ps, PRESERVE LIFE, PREVENT FURTHER INJURY, well as soon as he done that turn the casualty would have gone from possibly being monopl to being quite serverely being tetrapl and PREMOTE RECOVERY, by the time you did that lift out you would of sent the casualty into shock and cardic arrest b4 you had time to get defib or PHONE 999.
@leanne4caro im glad you are disgusted and honestly i dont care (just like stated in description. Can you grasp the concept that most training is different. "4P's?", never heard of that. so stick to what you do and i'll do the same. thanks
@leanne4caro yeah, your wrong on this one. They did it almost perfect and 90 % of lifeguards usually F it up pretty easy, these two did it fantastic and if I was injured I would be completely confident being under their care in a spinal. It was quick but not sloppy and it was effective and safe. You may do it differently but that doesn't mean that everyone else's way is wrong, your way could be right also. But this way was fantastic. Great job on the Spinal.

Nice entry and approach. When the girl was putting in the head piece you guys should have put him into a vice then the one who did the park puts on the head piece. Also you didnt secure the victims arms to their body. If it was real and they threw up they would have a dislocated shoulder when you turn them to the side. When you lifted them out it is probably best not to have them at an angle. Keep the board as horizontal as possible. Good job buy try for under 2 min.
@onlyplayingme okay well where I work we start the timer when we are already on deck. As soon as we "realize" the person has a spinal and the timer person says go thats when it starts. We don't stop the timer until everyone is out of the water completely.
@onlyplayingme In real life, there is no timer. In real life, the "timer" starts when the person begins to drown, or has the initial injury. I know it's just guard games, but every second matters in an actual rescue - and it's a lot scarier.
@hobbitandwife Absolutely correct; however, this guest-in-distress could start to suffer from shock, hypothermia or other conditions that would cause this GID's condition to become life threatening. It is very important to perform inline stabilization at a pace that will not harm the guest but you also have to be effecient enough to get the guest out of the water before any of the above conditions take place.
Good job but i would have done the squeeze play and the head foams much differently. that and have the victim hug the female lifeguards arms while shes in squeese play so you dont have to readjust them onces the straps are being strapped in. Well done tho, it was a good job.
one thing i learnt other day- wen u lift the body out of the water and tip the board wen hes sick dont have ur fingers under the board i did with a 21st man and broke 3 of em. plus cheers for the vid tht was a good job
Just some suggestions... the straps work better if they are velcro, much faster and in BC we do the chest and then the head and then the rest, after, one guard is out pulling and the other one in the water pushing the patient out, good job!
yea i like the velcro straps alot better, but all vegas/henderson pools use the clips now... normally we would have one guard still in the water, but they have stupid rules for guard games.. but thanks
oh ok i see what you are talking about. Yea the American Red Cross doesn't do that. im not to sure of the requirements where you are from. We do have a different grab which supports the spine from the chest and back.. but other than that, we only support from the sides.
I am a certified red cross life gaurd and it goes like this. First secure the victim with the head splint or the head chin brace and then have rescuer 2 get the board and put them on it. then you secure ( in order) the chest, hip, and thigh straps. Realy there is no need to put the head straps on right away when the rescuer 1 is holding it. it makes it easier for both of them to concentrate on the head straps and pads. They dont have to worry about the body moving.
Whoa bro , calm down. I'm certified by the Red cross too. Have been since '06. And when did you get your cert? The same day you told me how to do a spinal. " And it goes like this" Umm, I think not bro. I dont need some punk who just got their cert telling me how shit is supposed to be done. Talk to me when you have experience in an emergency. I secured him, we got him on the board, the straps are in the correct order( titties to toes) and the head pieces were put on last :)
it was nothing against u. i didnt say i was better than u. i know i am just 15. i was just saying it step by step for people who have no clue because i just did it the very same day i watched this video. it was nothing against u......So no hard feelings?

everything was good until the end, should have put the board on the lower ledge to keep it more level, and don't let the tube slip back out of place.

Aren't you suppose to swim underwater to the victim so you don't create any waves?

very true!!!!

I'm Y certified and i was never taught that but it makes sense.
Just a waveless entry and on the approach try to make as little waves as possible.

2nd lifeguard one thing you could do is place your tube under the lower part of the spine board then straps are a lot better to place
westliberty1 2 years ago
we wanted to do that, but for the competition the judges decided to make it more difficult, which made us wait til the end

just wondering about the use of a collar before head rolls?
PaulT1960 3 years ago
umm.. im not too sure what you mean by "collar"?
skatr08 3 years ago
We always put the head straps on after
the chest strap
Thats how were taught in england.
And you did that head splint wayyy to quick
Remember the casualty has a spine injury lol
nicely done otherwise. X
