If i may give you a tip, when tieing a knot you should use some selivar to put on the knot when you pull it tight, if you dont ther is a chance the line gets burned when tightening it xD
@chainsawman171 You seem to have missed the point. The large hook and weight and heavy line are only to make it easy to see in the demonstration. The hook I actually use is shown in the opening frame of the video, and it's actually quite small (#2).
@1RichZ lol, You clearly state, "we'll uze these oversized substitutes for the demo" then bam! sum clever beaver pops that awkward question. :) Good on you chainsawman171 Good on you. *sarcasm intended* ^^^^
@MikeChalk Don't buy drop-shot sinker. They are way too expensive. It cost like 5 sinker for $5. Just tie a small 2lb leader pass the hook to a normal split shot sinker. You can usually get like 10-12 for $1.50.
when starting off pull the line through the eye from the opposite direction than shown in the video to begin with and you wont have to pull the tag end back through to make the hook stand up properly trust me i fish this all the time
The advantages of the self cinching style weight are:
One less knot to tie.
Easy to remove and reattach, so it's not swinging around tangling stuff in the rod box or on the deck.
The self cinching design is supposed to allow the weight to pop off with less force than it would take to break the line at the hook knot, meaning that when you get the weight hung in the rocks, you don't lose everything and have to build the whole rig again. Just slip on another weight.
@1RichZ Have you seen the new way of doing it with a swivel type rig?The swivel is somehow made into the hook it seems pretty good however I don't use it very often so I'm not sure if it is better or not.I recently started fishing a rather deep lake and I will give both ways a try.
@slimmdogg420 Of course I've tried them. The decrease in line twist is minimal, and it takes 2 to 3 times as long to tie the whole thing up. Didn't really find any advantage to them. When the Gamakatsu version of that idea finally reaches the US, I'll give that a try, too. Looks a little more promising than the currently available one.
Very nicely done!

can't you just tie a regular weight to the end? I've never heard of a self cinching drop weight.
Douglas12982 2 years ago
@Douglas12982 . you can use an egg weight but its not the same
