  • Those games are creepy as fuck btw

  • Fuck that cd shit when I can buy a super NES for less.

  • That controller looks like a baby's toy...

  • Hello Wall! LOL

  • 3:05

    What’s this called?

    Vogue!

    Sound very racy?

    Its not for kids Phil.

    LMAO

  • sounds just like peter griffin

  • I'll stick with my good ol' Sega CD. It had better games.

  • this is awesome while stoned!!!

  • R.I.P. - CD (Compact Disc)

  • An encyclopedia from Compton? FO shizzle!

  • Phil is still a virgin because of CD-i

  • Goddammit. My only memories of having a CD-i was getting pissed off at dark castle and switching back to the SNES instead.

  • Your majesty!

PHILIPS and its minions have seized the funding for their console and used it all up on advertising!

  • Who pays $299 for an interactive encyclopedia? I could use that for a Super Nintendo.

  • Imagine Sega CD vs Nintendo CD could of had potential but Sega was coming out with a Saturn at that time when Sony was entering so...

  • I bought a CDi yesterday. I can't wait to play some really shitty games!

  • The only game that was good was Braindead 13

  • It just blows my mind that his had an infomercial.

    Must watch this tomorrow.

  • I tried calling the 800 number and its "The National Telemarketing Company". It would be funny if it was still Phillips desperately trying to sell CD-I's lol.

  • damn I remember begging my parents to buy me this ...they never did :( but fuck it now I got xbox 360 PS3 and nintendo wii ,,, EAT THIS PHIL LOL

  • @BigDanUSA85 Your parents are cool to not buy you one! This system was crap!

  • @Patrick19833 LOL yea ..but back then ..who knew ? :)

  • @Patrick19833 comparing to the level of technology we have these days ... all those once "revered" systems were crap .. LOL

  • CD-I says " KILLL ME"

  • 8:52 May i have AYDS, please? BRRRRRZ Thank you! - "HELP!"

  • Abridged version of infomercial: "Hey Phil, we do educational games" "Hey Phil, we do movies" "Hey Phil, we do books" "Hey Phil, we do games" "Hey Phil, we do educational games" "Hey Phil, we do movies" "Hey Phil, we do books" "Hey Phil, we do games" "Hey Phil, we do educational games" "Hey Phil, we do movies" "Hey Phil, we do books" "Hey Phil, we do games" "Hey Phil, we do educational games" "Hey Phil, we do movies" "Hey Phil, we do books" "Hey Phil, we do games" ...
  • Wow. No wonder this piece of shit flopped miserably. Who gives a damn about learning activities with your mom and dad.

Or playing shitty video on FMV games. Or how many god freaking damn image s a CDI disk holds. The target audience was missed by a wide margin.

  • @cuttock hey I used to love playing FMV games had a bunch for my sega cd and the 32 X .. Tom cat alley u kidding shit was da bomb .. made u feel like u were a part of the movie and stuff ..I wish u could get some of those classics for nintendo wii.. so far the only ones I've found ..were Mad Mcree and dragon's lair ..oh well fuck it .LOL can't wait for Oblivion 5 to come out and Uncharted 3 .. YEAAA :)

  • @cuttock Yes and no. FMV games were very big at that time, there were no DVDs yet and CD-I movie quality was actually a bit better than regular VHS video ones. The problem was cost: the titles available were all too expensive for what you'd get out of them. Kodak CDs cost $25 to make besides regular developing costs and the quality was pretty low (640x480 resolution), for example. But most interactive titles were pretty lame - there were too few titles that made use of the machine.

  • When I was a kid I thought Phil was a douchebag, but now I feel genuinely sorry for him. His neighbors probably all laughed at him when he brought the godforsaken thing to his house. Poor guy. Hopefully it was an educational experience.

  • where can i get this? its amazing

  • I swear to God I've seen Help in a porno.

  • I remember seeing this thing at Circuit City and wondering why anyone would pay $500 for it!

  • Your are back!

    I was never gone....

    fuck that shit is scary.

  • Phil is an asshole for buying shit.

  • no wonder this flopped.. there is no main target consumer. they kept it broad and mention educational so that kids or immature dads to ask wives to get it. just fucking say it! "CDi, an over priced gaming machine."

  • i had one. its in a landfill somewhere now

  • "Gee, these games sure are boring."

"Phil, mah boi... this entertainment system is what all true warriors strive for!"

  • movies on cds?

    the future is gonna rock

  • God I remember this. This would air on Sundays back in the day.

  • OMG! I remember this playing in the Omni Mall Sears when I was little! Wow, this brings back MEMORIES!

  • i want one

  • LOL 2:25

  • Comment removed

  • Phil Achio

  • 5:09 LIES!

  • Yes. All video games are interactive. Otherwise they would be movies dumba**!

  • its everything anyone wanted in a system... only problem is it was made in a crappy way!

  • @ocarinasandpoetry Yep. For it's time, the CD-i was actually a pretty neat system, technically. The problem is that A.) most of the games weren't that good, and the ones that weren't were cheaper on PC, and B.) It's movies were on VCD, which were kind of crappy (70 minutes of video even *lower* res then VHS), and hard to find, at least in the U.S./Europe.

If they'd waited a few years for DVD to come out, I think it might have done a bit better...

  • @spacehelmetforacow

You forgot the best part of CDi movies: in order to play, you needed to buy a $200 MPEG attachment. The basic CDi (running at between $1000 and $500 for most of its lifespan) didn't do much. Want to play games? Go buy a $50 controller to replace the worst controller ever packaged with a console. At least it played CDs, but so did a $25 walkman.

  • @ocarinasandpoetry and it was so expensive, what a bunch of idiots

they are a big company so they have the money to make a good system, if they just took all the retarded things out and just made a video game console they would have kicked ass

imagine if the retards that made the 3DO had had a $299 selling prices instead of 700 bucks

how do people fuck up this bad!!!

  • Voyeur is a cool fuckin game man.

  • @sygo7g

VIS consoles were typically sold under the Memorex name.

  • @sygo7g It's all good though. If it weren't for the SNES CD-ROM prototype then Sony may have never gotten into the video gaming industry. I was a big fan of the PSX, The PS2, and now I love the PS3. So I'm glad things worked out that way. Things would have been very different today. We might all be playing the Nintendo WiiStation 3. :P

  • @sygo7g Exactly! You really had to live in the time to fully grasp the experience and appreciate this for what it was. Many people don't realize the CD-i format was developed back in '87.

When I bought the CD-i I bought it for the Photo-CD (which was awesome!), VCD movies (again, very impressive to watch full screen "better than VHS" quality movies on a CD), Future add-on for the SNES (ok, they failed on this, but blame Nintendo!), Encyclopedia on a CD, not to mention a kick ass audio player!

  • @sygo7g

well i got a 3DO with goldstar on ebay with gex its actually a good game its side scroller reminds me of crash bandicoot

and the console its self works very well but wut disturbs me is it only has 1 controller slot so u have to put the 2nd controller slot has to go on the 1st player controller but its a very well made console

  • @sygo7g

Maybe, but a couple of detractors to VCD were video quality that was roughly the same as VHS and a maximum time of about 70 minutes for one disc. For the price and limitations, LaserDisc would have been a better deal up until DVD.

PlayStation consoles, with exception of the white Asian version, can't play Video CDs without an external VCD adapter.

I do have a VCD adapter for my PlayStation, but it's not used because my DVD player does a better job playing what little VCDs I have.

  • This is just too weird.

  • This has to be pooped.

  • This video is wrong...

    It needs MOAR fucking dinner

  • i swear, the first time i heard that kid at 8:52 i thought he said: May i have aids please?

  • which button makes Help take her clothes off?

  • Help: Do you want to know why CDI is interactive?

Phil: NO! I want to get out of here

Help: Sorry, my responses are limited.

Phil: Let me talk to the wall.

  • To quote Dr Isano: THIS ABOMINATION IS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!

  • 3DO easily destroyed philips CD-i... sega cd... atari jaguar cd

  • WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!

    I HATE CDI!!!

  • 4:24 MAH BOIIIIIIIIII

  • I desperately wanted one of these when I was a kid. This was really cutting edge technology in 1991.

  • Fuck. You have to press the open button BEFORE inserting the disc? No wonder I could never get mine working.

  • (short virgin) by your kids this shit so they can sufer and cry and want a sega genesis or snes

  • Thumbs up if you've banged Help

  • @fullflavormenthol Also, the CD-i was never intended to be a hardcore games console, as a result they simple hadn't build up a network of game developers. When Philips realized it made a mistake by not focusing on the game console market, it was already to late. Mind you, this is a 16-bit , fourth generation machine. The PSX is a 32-bit, fifth generation console. The CD-i was released in 1991, the SNES hadn't even hit the market in Europe yet. Graphically it was superior to any 16-bit machine.

  • When it showed faces of evil, I shuddered.

  • Movies on a cd? Yeah its a DVD.

  • @DrNo0Entertainment1 That's sarcasm right??? These were pre-DVD video CDs. DVD holds 4.7 GB these held about 700MB. This was released about 6 years before the DVD player came out in the US, and basically the only competition to Laserdisc until DVD showed up. This was for people who wanted something better than VHS, but didn't want a $1000 LD player

  • @girochin007 yes it was

  • @girochin007 The Laser-Disc(LD) technology was also invented by Philips in the late 70's. To be fair, on launch, the CD-i was in the same price range(about $1000), but the CD-i could do things(interactive applications, play games) a Laser-Disc player couldn't do.

  • @DrNo0Entertainment1 Guess what? CD, DVD and Blue-ray are all technologies owned by Philips. Coincidence? Philips receives royalties over every single CD, DVD and Blue-ray sold.

  • @DrNo0Entertainment1 -Nope, is a VCD, way older than a DVD.

  • Shoving a woman down some stairs = interactive entertainment

  • @exposed97 Who cares how you were concieved.

  • This machine was ahead of its time in many ways (watch movies, online gaming, a remote controller with thumbstick). Nintendo and Playstation borrowed a lot from the CD-i. It was poor marketing and a lack of good game developers that sealed its faith, not so much the capabilities of the machine itself.

  • @indivum Unfortunately for me the CD-i turned me off from CD-based consoles for a while. When the Playstation was announced I thought "oh not another TV company trying video games". I missed out on lots of PS1 and some PS2 gaming.

  • @ccricers Doh! Bummer... Sorry to hear that. What did you play in the mean time? N64? o_O

  • @indivum Yeah, I joined the N64 group, felt I missed out on a lot of RPGs.

  • Comment removed

  • @exposed97 The DVD format is owned by Philips as well. In fact Philips recieves royalties over every single CD, DVD and Blueray disc sold, even blanks.

  • It be great to see this YTPed

  • Voyeur? Sounds like Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.

Also, I cracked up when I saw "The Faces of Evil"

  • 4:55 Mustache required (not included)

  • I was just waiting for some random scenes from the Zelda CD-I throughout this Ad :D

  • 0:47 DURRRRR THANKS LADY I HAD NO IDEA HOW I'M SUPPOSED TO INSERT MY GAME INTO THE CONSOLE

  • if they had stop motion, y didnt they have mortal kombat or something like that?

  • @0Brianmaycry The CD-i controller IS a remote and remotes have always been wireless. >.<

  • @0Brianmaycry Where the hell did you get that idea? do you see any motion controls on this piece of crap? The wii is not the same as the CD-i >.>

  • I wish I had a cyber woman like "Help" in my home. God, she is so amazingly fuckable! I wonder what's under that lab coat. Haha.. Voyeur is not for kids, Phil!

  • I CALLED THE 1-800 NUMBER IT'S A TELEMARKETING COMPANY.

  • is this a joke?

  • I can almost feel the g-force pulling my cheeks back!

  • These systems are a piece of shit that always arrive broken when you buy one from ebay!

  • Do you know what's funny? I had "Little Monster at School" for Windows 95. The first PC title I ever had. It helped me read!

It's funny to think that the Bearstein Bears and Little Monster titles were eventually ported to the PC with the exact same technology, probably better even, and for most definitely a smaller price. xD

  • Movies? On a CD? Haha thats rich! Dumbass Phil

  • I play Hotel Mario in my Hd Tv lol

  • anyone know where i can download "The Apprentice" the only good platformer for the system?

  • Roller-controller. "they are very easy to use.and to hook up" well, girls i see these days are too.

  • shit for 500$ !!!!!!!!!!! there giving it away !

  • 2:25 ballsack? lol

  • I work for Motel 6 and a lot of their training vids are on CDi

  • They forgot the . between the four and the 9 :)

  • Sucks that the animation on that Bearstain Bears game was more lively and much better than that of Hotel Mario, Faces of Evil, and Wand of Gamelon.

  • The whole family has fun ?

jeez ! daddy must be loser

  • Am I on drugs or is this really surreal?

  • Is that the woman from the US pilot of Red Dwarf?

  • @Mclovin7831 and I'm sure you've used a CD-i to know this first hand right? It's not like you would just jump on the I hate CD-i bandwagon without testing it for yourself or anything.. that would be umm.. well, stupid!

Also, it was $700-$800 when it came out, not $500.

It's technology paved the wave for DVD-Video and Blu-Ray discs.

  • It's a shame that people are judging the CD-i without having actually played one !

3 Things to keep in mind before leaving the predictable "CD-i looks like #%^%$" reply.

    1. This technology was developed in the early 80's. Many years before the Sony PlayStation. So STOP comparing it!! It's pointless.

    2. It wasn't initially marketed primarily as a game machine. The "i" in CD-i is for Interactive media. It plays a ton of media. CD Audio (Red), CD Video (White), Photo-CD, CD+G, CD+bridge.

  • For it's time $700 was a good price for something that contained a computer AND CD-ROM. Remember this was 1990. The RCA VIS, and Commodore CDTV were also $700 retail. The TG16 CD-ROM add-on was $400. 3DO was also $700.

Sure it wasn't the most amazing game player, but for games that used FMV this was among the best.

This was 1990.. FMV games were supposed to be the future of gaming!

Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and the ALG arcade ports were the best on here until the later DVD-Video versions.

  • 5:04

    The graphics are SHIT

  • But does the Cdi cook toast?

  • 2:24!

  • damn philips just tried to use headphones on this and found out that my headphones were made by philips! they didn't work... everything sucks bout philips.

  • I can watch movies on a compact disc? What's next, a motion sensing videogame system? Oh, wait, they have that. the Wii. a good, really underrated system. not the cdi, though I have never played one

  • I suppose compact disc players had to suck before they started being good.

  • The Imagination Machine, it's a 1000 dollar paper weight

  • 500$ I'll come back when im a little HMMMMM richer

  • not only was the system over priced, the thing barely fucking worked even if it was brand new. the 90's were a very great decade for video games systems but this system was not one of them

  • Yeah but we have dvd already and blu-ray

  • the 90's were so high-tech

  • it took almost 20 years for this technology to kinda take off if u think about it the xbox 360 and the playstation 3 are kind of what the cdi wanted to be back in the day.

  • oh shit... I remember this shit....

  • want me to show you how easy it is to get interactive?

    mario: NO?

    Ganon: die!

    king: ship!

  • The only thing it's good for is making ytps.

  • did it have interactive pornography lol

  • That thing was a piece of crap.

  • with that kind of adds no wonder why it sucked so much

  • they used the same people in the add in they sold the webtv

  • Lovely how CD-i advertises all the features that any PC could do back then already.

  • @ceilingkitteh

salesbitch: YEAH but this hooks up to your tv

a person who owns a computer: yeah I go a coaxial port on my GFX card and most these games have PC copies (living books for education)

  • @SandstonRedneck2

and most these games suck ass anyway

  • wait... this is a gaming system right? If so then it sucks!

  • whats this called?

    voyeeeuuuuurrrr ;) lmaooo

  • Lol grab you'r pencil, grab you'r dick.

  • wow infomercials have gotten a lot less creepy over the years.

  • I'll insert my disk into her tray anytime.

  • CD-i raped The Legend of

Zelda and Mario and forced them to give birth to the shittiness that is Hotel Mario and Zelda CD-i

  • thank you for finding and showing this

  • At 1:26, did any of you hear that sound? It reminds me of Street Fighter II for the SNES.

  • I remember actually wanting one of these from seeing this infomercial. Good thing I never got one.

  • awful infomercial for a system that i completely forgot about

  • Movies? on a CD? lol

  • I cant belive it...

  • crazy aint it

  • Wow I was kid in this video. My brief Hollywood experience.

  • When I viewed this, it said "25,555 views".

  • I remember watching this. It's a jack of all trades but master of none.

  • How has this not been used as a YTP Source?

  • I'm using it now...

  • @BPhoenixProductions IS VERY SHITTY GAY PHIL HARTMAN DO YOU WANT LOTSA SPAGHETTI FOR DINNER??

  • 5:27

TETRIS! Oh man, that's hilarious. Why does it look like the obelisk in 2001? Unbelievable.

  • Man any thing would be great with a screen that big.

  • what a shit comercial,product was crap,even potentially,cd i movie format was horrendous

  • only 499 dollars!

  • Do you also have the CD-I infomercial that was a 3 part sitcom like infomercial? The second part was about 3 teen boys (or they were actors playing teens) who broke one of the boys' father's game console. The game machine repair man comes and hooks up the CD-I. One of the actors playing one of the teen boys is Barry Watson from 7th Heaven / Sorority Boys / Samantha Who? fame. I have it on VHS but I haven't watched in forever and would like to see the ENTIRE infomercial.

  • I fell on the floor when the guy said phill at 0:13

they can't even find a name without making phillips commercial?? why not john?? lol

  • i bet that bitch! thought she was in the top best world of technology. and the guy sucks he has such crappy gay acting skills he don't look that interesting he was in for the money.

  • I sill have one of these old things but never thought it was that much back when it was made.

  • Cdi is only $500!? What a steal! Honey, get your checkbook ready!

  • yeah and you get a free 300$ worth encyclopedia with it. like wtf!! even encarta didn't cost 100$. what the fuck!

  • $300 worth of encyclopedia knowledge!? Wow, sounds.... excessive?

  • soon you will be a walking encyclopedia lol

  • Ha ha, exactly! This could have been an episode of "Home Improvement".

  • If the Philips CD-I would have had another film by Paramount like "Raiders of the lost ark".

  • It's interesting at 7:30 that tennis game looks like Wii.

  • Hotel Mario was made for CD-i.

  • If philips CD-I bis the meaning of life then my crap must be god.

  • 1:50 reminds me of the magic school bus :)

  • at 5:55 he says "Oh.. a whore!!!"

  • Between 3:00 and 3:30 philips is promoting pornography!!! what a shame, I was going to buy a philips lcd, but this make me decide for a samsung :)

  • 1:42 Hey is that Jhon Connor?.

  • LOL. MOVIE?..... ON A CD? I bet now Phil think back on when he did this video while popping in a DVD OR BLU-RAY DISC.

  • Someone should poop this video. Srsly.
